Book Review

My favorite book was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It is realistic fiction. It could happen but it is very unlikelyThe setting of the book was amazing. It felt like you were actually there sometimes. It was so hard though, that sometimes you didn’t want to be there, because all around them, people were passing away. If I closed my eyes, I could see the setting. The big, weird city, the dirty slums, and the forest. The main characters are Katniss and Peeta. They are very brave, but it is so intense at times, and so futuristic, it doesn’t even feel like it is real. I like both Katniss and Peeta. Peeta loved Katniss ever since they were little. He just didn’t want to say so. Katniss is brave, and smart, and will do anything for her family. Peeta is brave, and caring. Katniss lives way in the future. There are 13 districts, and she is in 12. They are very poor where she lives. Every year, 13 tributes are chosen for something called “The hunger games,” where they fight to the death, and there is one winner. Every year, a boy and a girl are chosen. 12-18 year olds. Katniss has her name in there 40 some times. Her sister, just has her name in there once, because she is only 12. Her name gets selected. Katniss steps up and takes her place. Her and Peeta must survive, but there are 11 others, way stronger, and way more experienced, and only one can win. Who will it be? Overall, I give the book 5 stars. It kept making me want to read, and when I would have to stop, there would be cliffhangers. I really, really liked it, and I would recommend it.

Africa Union

We had an African Union Day on Thursday. We discussed issues and how we could help them. One of the issues, was voting. People in villages don’t hear about it and don’t know who to vote for. So some kids came up with an idea for portable voting booths. More people can support the government with their votes. Another idea I liked was education. We could set up schools for kids and adults if they would like them, and it could help. I liked the debating and the hardest part was sitting there for a long time.

Invictus

We watched the movie Invictus. Nelson Mandela was an amazing leader and cared about everyone. He turned the whole country together. At first, all the black people hated the rugby team, but Nelson Mandela was kind to them. He learned their names, and shook each of their hands before every game. By the end, there was this community there that there wasn’t before. There was a little boy trying to listen to the game by some cops – their door was open in the car. At first they shooed him away, but by the end, he was sitting on the car, drinking coke, and they were lifting him up and gave him a hat. The secret service hated each other in the beginning, but then they were friends and shaking each others hands by the end. This movie taught me that everyone should be treated equally.

Africa Reflection

I learned that Africa is more diverse than we think. It’s not all people with one skin color like we think. When we think of Africa, we think: Black people, poverty, and animals. It’s so much more than that. Yes there is poverty, and most people don’t have phones or electricity, and they die at the age of 51 or 54 depending on where they live, and yes there’s not a lot of clean water there, but they are people too.

Eagle Huntress

1. I learned a lot of things in this movie. It helped teach people to chase after their dreams no matter what people say. She was a girl, so everyone said that she couldn’t eagle hunt. She proved them wrong, and she won the competition. It inspired me, and helped me know that if people tell you that you can’t do something, it just makes you want pursue it more.

2. I didn’t however like the article very much. The whole story was about people proving her wrong, and her overcoming it, and then it happened again in the article when they said it was staged. So I thought that it was kind of stupid that the story was about that, telling people that you can set your mind to anything, and then they tried to in the article.

The Solar System –

After the solar system film, I wondered how the earth floats in the middle of nothing. There’s no gravity in space. It’s interesting how far away everything actually is. A mile, to think about it, is a long ways away. And even a model isn’t the real thing. Only 24 people out of billions have gotten that experience to see the solar system.

Running Wild –

It was really cool. I think it would be really scary to run out in the woods. They got to check all of those stations at night. They were super good runners, and they got to see if there were any wolverines. They saw 1 wolverine in 2015, and are hoping that they will slowly come back.

Canyon Song – They sang on the back of the truck to the spirits. The dad was a christian, but changed to that culture and religion. I hope that those girls and that family find christ, because we know that those spirits aren’t real, but they think they are. They love their culture and their lifestyle. They feel free in the canyons.

Camp Reflection 2

1. What verse spoke to you? What did it say to you?

The verse that spoke to me the most was Psalm 139:13-14. It says that God knit us together, and that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. That is one of my favorite verses in the bible. The words fearfully and wonderfully made are so powerful, and they are super important. It says that we are precious, and we are created by God, and we are perfect in his eyes.

2. List our group goals. Which one are you going to work on? What will that look like?

This day reminded us of the community we shared at camp. We were reminded of our group goals too. Some of them were, Include others, Welcome people, respect others, be fun-loving. Don’t talk behind people’s backs. We were recognized for how well we did with the first four. But don’t talk behind people’s backs, that one is especially hard for me, gossiping. There’s always something interesting going on, that I need to talk about. But for the most part, its if i’m mad at someone for something that they did. So I tell people and talk behind their backs. I don’t want to be that kind of person who calls people bad things, but I feel like that’s who i’m becoming. Like if someone from school read some of my texts, they would be really, really mad at me or even cry maybe. I don’t want to be that kind of person though, so i’m going to keep trying to be the person that God wants me to be. I think life will be a lot less dramatic and i’ll enjoy it more, and get to do the things I want to do, if I take a step back from all of that.

Living on One Dollar

We recently just watched the movie Living on One Dollar. Four American guys went to Guatemala, and lived on a dollar per day, like most people do in that town. It was really sad to see how people live like that. Eight people in a one room house, or not getting to fulfill their dreams because they need to make support their family. During the movie, I wished that I could go to Guatemala. But not living on a dollar a day. That  would scare me a lot. We are so used to our luxurious, comfortable little lives in America, and sometimes we don’t really take time to take a step back and think about what other people have to go through, and I’m speaking for myself too, like I live a comfortable little life that any person in Guatemala would probably dream of having. I have 2 parents who are married, and love each other and me, and I have a family. I have a warm bed, air conditioning, food whenever I want, hot and cold running water, I go to a christian school, and my life hasn’t had many twists and turns yet. I wish everyone got food, and water, and it made me feel sad when not everyone had that opportunity.

Request Foods

So, last week we went on a field trip to Request Foods!!!!!! It was very cool! The machinery was amazing. It was like the machinery had a mind of it’s own!!!!!

So, I talked a LOT on the field trip, when we were eating lunch there after the tour one of the people told me I talked a lot and asked a lot of questions and said that I would make a great sales person, so if I worked there, I would want to work in the offices as a sales person maybe or be the BOSS- The owner!

We took a tour of the factory. It was amazing!!!!!! It didn’t smell too good though!

I loved the factory and who knows….

Maybe I’ll get a job there someday!!!

Market Day

Last year for market day, my group (Jordyn and Keigan) did snow cones, carmel corn, and brownies. I decided to bring my snow cone machine. We had keigan bring in some brownies, he came up with that idea, and we also loved Jordyn’s Grandma’s, caramel corn. We loved our ideas.

If we did it all over again, Honestly, I would  have just wanted to do the snow cones, we sold out on those-  well, over sold out- we had people asking us to put snow cones in plastic bags!!!- I think we would have gotten more materials and more money even though we made a lot! So, at market day, to get someone to invest in you, for the money that you need, we did like a shark tank type thing. We finally got 2 offers and we turned one down.

My least favorite part was learning about all the money and sales. It was not that fun, and we did some hard papers, that’s ok though. Also, I didn’t like how when we were sold out, people kept asking for more, it was rush hour when we ran out of snow cone cups!!!! Like people asking for them in bags.

My favorite part was making the snow cones! That was so fun!!!!!!

If I had any advice for this year’s groups, it would be to not have too high prices, and to do something that everyone loves to eat or play with. Look in public what people like to buy.

I liked market day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spring Break Book Ideas

Here are some of my book ideas:

1.   So, for spring break , we went to canada. It was a blast!!!!!!!!! So, for one of my book ideas, I decided to do a mystery. It will be called “Kidnapped In Canada.” A young girl named ruby and her parents go to canada for a trip to see her cousins and grandma They go to many fun places, however, there are bad people trying to get ruby. When ruby goes missing, Her cousins are determined to find out who took ruby and why. Will they save ruby or will the bad guys win?
