“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine

and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

The rain came down, the streams rose,

and the wind beat and blew against that house,

yet it did not fall because it was built on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24-25

At seventh grade camp when this verse was mentioned as our theme, I knew that it was going to be the perfect fit. As eighth grade is starting and I reflect more and more on this verse, I am becoming more and more confident that this is the ideal theme for us. I am looking forward to this year and seeing how God is going to open our eyes using this passage and in myself and my classmates lives. Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock,” means a lot to me as both an eighth grader at Zeeland Christian School and as a Christian in the world.

This verse can teach me how to live as an eighth grader at Zeeland Christian. This verse means that when everything around you is shaking and falling to the ground during a storm, your house will stand firm when you know that it is built on God and His word. God will hold your house up because he is never changing and will always be the same. God is strong and unbreakable, just like a foundation. I understand that if I not only memorise this verse, but live by it, I can be a leader to the rest of the middle school by putting my faith first.  If I show them that I put my faith before anything else, and the God is more important to me than anything else then they might follow.

Although I should definitely keep this verse in mind when I am at school, it is just as, and if not more important, when I got out into the world. When I am in touch with different people who might not have a relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ, I am praying they might notice that there is something set apart about me. If my whole life is built on God, the rock, then I don’t need to worry about any problems that I am facing or will come to face. I don’t need to worry about what other think of me or worry about what is to come. I know that what I stand for won’t be shaken. If I practice what the bible says, I can be even more prepared for life and what it still has to throw me. If I memorize different scripture references, God can use them and put them in my life at the moment that I need it the most.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock,” means a lot to me as both an eighth grader at Zeeland Christian School and as a Christian in the world. It tells me that when I memorize God’s word, it is just like building my house on a firm foundation. I love knowing that I can trust in God and that I don’t have to worry because God’s got this.
