Carbon Cycle

McKenna and I had the carbon cycle. Carbon is found in all living things, and because it is a cycle there isn’t a definite starting and ending point. If the carbon “starts” in the air, then, when paired with the sun, it would go into photosynthesis as food for plants. From the plant, it goes into the ground when it dies or from it’s waste, go back to the atmosphere through plant respiration, or an animal could eat it and have the carbon. The decay from the tree turns into fossil fuels, where it goes to the factory, and then back into the atmosphere. If it went to the animal, the carbon from the animal decays as well, or it contributes to animal respiration. The respiration also goes back into the atmosphere and the cycle continues.

God Sightings

This weekend I went quading at a cabin up north with friends. I saw God in nature and how detailed he is. On Saturday morning I went for a walk and was amazed at even the detailed spiderwebs. Another place I saw God was at the gravel pit that I went to and the scenes around it. My friend Ella and I drove around for a while (and got lost) while the sun was setting and that was pretty amazing too.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine

and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

The rain came down, the streams rose,

and the wind beat and blew against that house,

yet it did not fall because it was built on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24-25

At seventh grade camp when this verse was mentioned as our theme, I knew that it was going to be the perfect fit. As eighth grade is starting and I reflect more and more on this verse, I am becoming more and more confident that this is the ideal theme for us. I am looking forward to this year and seeing how God is going to open our eyes using this passage and in myself and my classmates lives. Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock,” means a lot to me as both an eighth grader at Zeeland Christian School and as a Christian in the world.

This verse can teach me how to live as an eighth grader at Zeeland Christian. This verse means that when everything around you is shaking and falling to the ground during a storm, your house will stand firm when you know that it is built on God and His word. God will hold your house up because he is never changing and will always be the same. God is strong and unbreakable, just like a foundation. I understand that if I not only memorise this verse, but live by it, I can be a leader to the rest of the middle school by putting my faith first.  If I show them that I put my faith before anything else, and the God is more important to me than anything else then they might follow.

Although I should definitely keep this verse in mind when I am at school, it is just as, and if not more important, when I got out into the world. When I am in touch with different people who might not have a relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ, I am praying they might notice that there is something set apart about me. If my whole life is built on God, the rock, then I don’t need to worry about any problems that I am facing or will come to face. I don’t need to worry about what other think of me or worry about what is to come. I know that what I stand for won’t be shaken. If I practice what the bible says, I can be even more prepared for life and what it still has to throw me. If I memorize different scripture references, God can use them and put them in my life at the moment that I need it the most.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock,” means a lot to me as both an eighth grader at Zeeland Christian School and as a Christian in the world. It tells me that when I memorize God’s word, it is just like building my house on a firm foundation. I love knowing that I can trust in God and that I don’t have to worry because God’s got this.

Descriptive Writing

The heart card reminds me of Camp Geneva. One of the last weeks of summer, me and nine other friends from Zeeland Christian headed to camp geneva for five days. The cool days consisted of dancing to Frozen, stuffing our faces with junk food, and hanging around with other friends that we met. I can still hear Anna’s piercing screams from every time that she would find a spider or bug in the cabin. The heart card reminds me of the talent show that we did to Frozen. It featured the whole “Love Is An Open Door” and part of the Troll Song. Inbetween the songs, we did skits. By the time that we were done, the crowd was cheering almost as loud as a roaring lion. Another thing I remember from camp were all of the people we met. I met two boys who go to Hudsonville that Jenna, Haylie, Marissa and myself became good friends with.

When I looked at the suitcase on the tiny piece of paper, I thought of how we went camping. This summer we bought a new trailer and we pulled in around Michigan. We went to Pentwater, Holland, St. Ignace, Pearson and Grand Haven. One of my favorite things about going to all of these places was listening to the waves crash and roll as the beat against the sand. When I would sit in my hammock overlooking the beach, I always felt as peaceful as a gentle breeze. I went camping with friends for a week and went camping with family friends other times. With all of the fun that we were having away, we only spent one full week at our house this summer.

When I look at the globe I think of when we went to Mackinac Island. We headed up to Mackinac for a day with my family. While we were there we did a horse and carriage ride, went to Fort Mackinac, and probably ate too much fudge. My favorite part was walking around town and checking out the shops. I remember the sound of the horses hooves banging on the warm concrete, and the vague sound of the tourists. When we first arrived on the island, I was so blown away by how small and cute the towns were. I saw that the shops were all light pastel colors and looked almost as old as George Washington. I had a great time there, and I definitely want to head back soon.
