Picture Book

The process of writing a picture book surprised me. It is very long and there are lots of steps before you even start writing. Before we started brainstorming ideas we did research on what other authors do before they start writing their books. They know what little kids like and they use it in their books. I learned that little kids like things like repetition and rhyme. After we did our research we interviewed some 1st graders and asked them what they liked in a book. After that we started on our rough drafts. We wrote rough drafts and edited them. After that we wrote the story in the actual final draft. The pictures took a lot longer then I thought they would. If I had to change anything about my book, I would add more repetition and I would use markers instead of colored pencils. I think that the kids I read my book to like my book, but I think that it wasn’t kid friendly enough. The topic was to deep.  Screen Shot 2014-02-24 at 10.04.10 AM
