Golf

by cade vandenbosch

Luke excitedly got in the car and shouted to his dad to hurry up because he wanted to go golfing. They drove 20 minutes to the golf course. When they got there, they paid and hopped on a cart and drove to the first hole. Luke hit the ball first and it soared above the trees. Luke’s dad hit his ball and it went in a sand trap. They finished the first hole with Luke getting a par and his dad a bogie.

They jumped back on the cart and drove to the next hole. Luke told his dad that he wanted to get a hole in one. Luke’s dad said, “You’re probably not going to get a hole in one.” Luke’s dad hit his ball and it landed on the green, a couple inches away from the hole. Then Luke went and placed his ball on the tee.

Luke hit the ball and it went soaring through the air and landed on the green.

The ball rolled slowly toward the hole and was about to stop when suddenly the wind picked up and pushed the ball to the edge of the cup… and it dropped in. Luke jumped up and down yelling, ‘’I got a hole in one!’’

His dad said that was the most amazing shot. The course ranger drove up and congratulated Luke

and asked to take his picture to put in the club house. They finished the rest of the course and as they were walking back to the car, Luke’s dad said, “I am going to take you to a PGA tournament.” They hopped in the car and rode home. Luke ran into the house and told his

mom that he got a hole in one. A few months later, Luke’s dad surprised him with tickets to a PGA tournament in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The whole family was going along. They took a plane to the island and stayed in a condo on the golf course that the PGA was playing on. Their condo had a pool and because the weather was so hot, they spent the first day swimming. Two days later, Luke and his family got up early to set up chairs along the cart path in front of their condo. The sky looked like a storm was brewing and Luke was worried that the tournament was going to be cancelled. Thankfully after a few rain drops fell, the sun came out.

Luke’s dad asked him, “Who is your favorite player?” Luke answered, “Phil Mickelson is my favorite and then

Tiger Woods.” As Luke and his dad were talking, a ball flew through the air and landed right next to Luke’s feet. A course official ran over and told Luke, “Please clear a path and do not touch this ball. It belongs to Phil Mickelson.” Just then Phil Mickelson walked in the clearing and approached Luke.

“Hey there kid. I’m glad you didn’t get hurt” he said. Luke asked if he could have his autograph and picture. The course official said no but Phil Mickelson said, “Sure.”

Luke stood next to Phil while his dad took their picture. Then Phil Mickelson gave Luke an autographed golf ball.

Later in the tournament a player hit his ball into the pool at Luke’s condo. When the player approached, Luke

was shocked to see that it was Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods asked the officials how they were going to get the ball out of the pool. Luke went up to the official and said, “I will get it!” He dove into the pool and after a few tries, he came up with the ball. Tiger Woods said, “Thanks so much. You are awesome. Here is an autographed hat.”

Luke and his family had fun watching the rest of the tournament and since they were right by the green of the 14th hole, they saw a lot of action.

As the last pairing was approaching the 14th green, Rory McIlroy hit his ball and it landed on the green and rolled into the cup. Luke shouted, “Awesome shot!” And Rory gave him a thumbs up. Then Rory McIlroy got his ball from the cup and tossed it into the crowd. A guy got

the ball and saw Luke standing there so he gave it to him.

Cade,

Your story turned out to be amazing! You added a lot more detail between the last draft I was able to read and your final draft, and I think it made your story even stronger! I listened to you read it as well, and you did a really good job changing your voice when you were reading a quote from one of your characters. It helped me feel the emotion in your story. You did a great job changing and adding to your story, and your finished product turned out really well! Good job!

Your blog buddy,
Kate

Cade,

Your story is amazing! You have added a lot more detail since the last time I read it and it really strengthened your story. I really like how you included more detail about Luke and his family going to the PGA tournament. It’s so cool that you let him meet Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods! I also listened to you read your story, and you did a really good job of changing your voice when you read dialogue in your story. I could actually hear the characters in your story speaking! I hope you are very proud of your story because you have done an awesome job going through the revision process! I can’t wait to read your next one!

Your blog buddy,
Kate
