First Manned Mars Mission Draws Flood of Applicant
Comments(24) A lot of applications have been sent in to be on the first manned mission to Mars. Only two applicants will be accepted and they will have to be married because they will have to be able to work together. The people who get accepted will be squished into a space that is about the size of an R.V for over a year and are planned to be back in 2018. They will have to breath recycled air, eat dehydrated food and eve drink there own filtered urine. The people that die will be put in a freeze-dried body bag but the people that survive will have to re-enter that atmosphere at 8.8 miles per second. The president of the Paragon Space Development Corp. said, “So far, we haven’t come up with any show-stoppers so that exciting!” This program, Paragon Space Development, was started in 2001 and it’s goal is to send a man and a woman who are married into space for 501 day journey around Mars and back to Earth. The next opportunity wont come around until 2031. The mission of the project is to re-inspire congress and the public in long space travel and that humans can actually do it. They will not enter the atmosphere or touch the ground because that would require a lot of extra work and supplies so they will just go around it. The crew will stay in the shuttle the whole time to simplify things. All the things they plan to use to keep them alive is possible, but will be very hard to do.
I think that sending people to mars would be a really big step for humans. I don’t think they should send them though if there is a high possibility of them dieing. But I think if they can do it safely it would be a really cool thing.

That is weird that so many people want to go to space and live up there that long.

Yeah in the first sentence it says they have gotten a lot of applications. And I would want to live on Earth.

Why would someone want to do this? Is there some reward or do you get paid a lot if you do this?
There will probably be some award for being the first to do this. But some people just have those dreams to travel through space and go to mars.
