God @ Work!

List two things from Paul’s past that God used in his ministry

(Acts 18:3) Paul was a tentmaker. He also traveled a lot, and he also talked to people a lot. With being a tentmaker, and a missionary, he didn’t have a lot of money, he could repair, and even make the tents to earn money.

(Colossians 1:6) Paul understood that all over the world the gospel was bearing fruit and growing. Paul helped to heal many people, and in the process, he taught many people about the gospels.

How may God use you? (i.e: past/present experiences and/or talents)

None of us really know what God is going to do with our lives. God prepared Paul for a life of ministry. God knew what he was doing with and for Paul. For me personally, I don’t know how God could be working in me, but when I was younger a family that my mom knows adopted this little girl, who has special needs, from China. She is the cutest little girl ever! Ever since then, I thought that it would be so fun to adopt a little kiddo. I am not sure how God could use me in my lifetime.

Persecution Project – PBL

For the past couple of weeks, we have been learning about present-day persecution in countries all around the world. we were placed into a group and we were assigned a country. for me, it was Ava, Sydney and I, and our country was Pakistan. I really liked this project because I didn’t really understand that there was this much going on in the world around us.

Spaghetti Tower

In science class, we had to make spaghetti towers. ours didn’t go how we wanted, we had a lot of things go wrong. We worked well together as a team, but if the tower was on our team, we wouldn’t work well together at all. I worked with Carley, Lydia, and Greta 🙂

My advice for an incoming 8th grader, for this project, would be; think ahead, the marshmallows dry faster than you think.

My Brother Sam is Dead – Book Project

In this Box, Sam and his dad are having a fight. Sam and his dad had fights often. And yes, the dad wants the best for his son, but he is almost 18 so he will be starting his “own life” kind of. In the book, Mrs. Meeker, the mom, is very humble when they fight. either she is just a humble person, or she’s just gotten so used to them fighting. That is kind of what is happening in this box, and you can make the box do what it wants.

Science Chain

In science, we made a long chain with different materials and then we tested it with different weights to see if it doesn’t touch the ground. (that probably doesn’t make sense.) sorry.

Which Part will work the best and why?

The pipe cleaners will work good because they have twisted metal in the middle and will be really strong.

Which part might be a problem and why?

The paper rings I think might snap, the tape isn’t very sticky.

Why you did or didn’t use some of the materials?

We didn’t use the rubber bands because they would be too stretchy and the bottles would touch the ground.

Beginning of Year Reflections – 8th Grade

One thing that I have enjoyed this past few weeks was, school wise, was camp, just for an overnight thing we went to Camp Roger. it went by really fast, but it was really fun.

One thing that I learned these past few weeks was, about other people, Mrs. Roskamp, our La teacher, had us put pictures on a paper bag, that tell things about it, for example, on my bag, there are four sides, so I have a “Things I love” side, “Faith”, “About me”, and a “Family” side. And then on the inside of the bag, you have to put something that people might not know about you.

One thing that I am looking forward to this year, is all of the fun projects you get to do, it is your last year of middle school, I sure hope you have a little fun. Also, I am looking forward to small groups, I am a co-leader with Parker, and we have a pretty good group.

Boat Racing 2018 (science)

For our first science project, we got to build a boat. We also get to race them,  I am not sure how it will do, I am kind of scared about how it will do, but whatever. Greta and I were partners to build it together, but Greta isn’t here. I was pretty excited to be Greta’s partner because Greta sails as a sport, and she knows a lot about boats. For our first trial, it took us 10.2 seconds. Not the greatest time ever, but it is a good start.

My Summer!

This summer was a very full summer! My mom and I taught swimming lessons in our back yard. We had 178 kids in our pool this Summer. We were very burned from the sun, and burned out from all of the kids, and water. I also went to YoungLife camp! We went to Timber Wolf! It was a ton of fun! There was so much to do, and you are never bored! Overall it was an Awesome Summer! I am not really looking forward to math…..and homework….and early-ish mornings…and gym class….but whatever, I don’t have a choice.

African Union Day – May 25, 2018

What did we do for African Union day? : For African Union day, my self and a partner represented our country, Kenya. We would write a resolution and present it to all of the other countries

What did you get out of it? : I didn’t get a whole lot about it, but I’ve learned that you have to work hard in order to get something to work, just like how we had to write a resolution and then support it.

What was hard? : The hardest part for me was mainly, all of the big words, but also writing the resolution and then having to represent your country.

7th Grade Car Wash

The 7th Grade Car Wash

Where: The car wash is in the Dollar General parking lot.

When:           4/28/18   8:50 – 12:15am/pm

Why: At ZCS we have a sister school in the Philippines. This year the Philippines’ school is building a high school. And they need money to build it. So we are helping them out by raising money and doing a car wash. The car wash is free and we only take donations before the car wash.

We would love to have you come!

Invictus (Movie)- Elizabeth DenBleyker

How did you see reconciliations in the movie? : This might not make sense for the reconciliation part of it, but it was kinda in the middle of the movie when Nelson Mandela brought in a few white security guards. One of the “head” security guards wasn’t happy, but grew to know and work with them. In a way, we have that too. God places people in our lives whether we like it or not, but in reality, we have to eventually work with them. and grow, to get along.

Pick one character and explain how you saw a change. : For my character, I choose the “head” security, like I said before, he didn’t like having the white bodyguards. but over time he worked with them and got to know them as they worked at the Rugby tournaments. we should always learn to work with people we don’t like.

Africa – Elizabeth DenBleyker

In this unit, I am very curious to see what we learn about. Honestly, you never know with teachers so I don’t know what to expect. I really want to know about different people and how they have made an impact on that continent.

I used to think that Africa wasn’t very important, but every country and every continent is important to this world. the more I hear about Africa the more it gets me interested. it is super unique and it has its own style or culture.

Overall, I am looking forward to learning more about Africa, and I can’t wait to learn more and more about it.

Social Studies Simulation

What were the challenges you faced traveling through Europe on Thursday?

  • as a tourist, it was very had to get through certain countries because they wouldn’t let you go through because of something you said.
  • also, it was hard not to cheat and cut through countries.
  • as a “worker” it was pretty easy, but there were always the people who would be kinda rude ab=nd not say “Hi” or “Thank you!”

Explain one benefit to each country in Europe maintaining so much control of their own situation…

  • having control over your country makes it somewhat safer.
  • it is important to stay safe in any situation.

Themes Of the Bible:

Names:

God gave and changed people’s names based on what the person did. Every name has a different meaning. My name means creative and idealistic. What does your name mean? A story from the Bible that was really unique was when Sarah was told that she was going to have a baby and she laughed about it. When they had the baby they named the baby Isaac. Isaac means laughter. A name tells a lot about who you are. We are all unique and different. Our names tell a lot about us.

Conflict & Doubt:

Doubting is completely normal. In the Bible, Jacob struggled and fought with God. there are many people in the Bible who fought with God. when people struggle with God, they ask many many questions like, Why? What’s next? Why me? What did I do to deserve that? Doubting often helps you grow in your faith. You can learn and pray about what you are going through.

________________________________

Callings:

There are many people in the Bible who God calls. God can call you in many ways. Whether it is a friend or pastor. In the Bible, God would literally appear to someone. For example, Mary. Like when she was going to have Jesus. Abraham and Sarah was called to be the parents of a great nation. They had to trust God and I am sure that they prayed lots! God always keeps his promises. for my visual I chose a phone, God doesn’t actually call us on a phone but we have to sit and listen.

________________________________

Slavery/Salvation:

I have always loved the quote, “everyone wants happiness, nobody wants pain, but you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.” In a way, that quote is saying, you have to go through a bumpy road to come to something good. For example when Joseph was sold into slavery, and he ended up helping his family in the famine. And Moses too, he was born in slavery. He leads Israel out of Egypt. For my visual, I chose a cross, because everyone was sad when Jesus died. But three days later he rose again from the dead. People were sad, but they became happy in the end when he rose again.

________________________________

Symbol of the Lamp:

We don’t often think about the meaning of the lamp. They lamp has many different meanings. God uses the lamp as a light source. David was a man after God’s own heart. David’s line leads to Jesus who is the ultimate light of the world. He gives us the light that we need. For my visual, I chose a lighthouse because Jesus is like our lighthouse. he provides what we need to get to shore.

________________________________

Slide to destruction:

Israel had one good king and the other kings worshiped Baal. Judah had two good kings but the rest worshiped idols. The kings focused on popularity and having power over God’s law. It is hard to sit and listen to God’s voice. It takes patience, and time. It is so easy to go your own way, but we have to listen to God’s way. For My visual I chose a Raod sign that says, MY WAY -> <- GOD’S WAY because there really are two different ways.

Sent to the Promised land.

Trusting God can be hard sometimes. There are many times in the Bible when people had to trust God.

For example, when the Israelites were in need of food, they had to trust God that he would provide food for them that day. The list goes on. Sometimes it can be hard to trust someone or even God. Another example is Job. Job had to Trust God when he lost everything. He had his wife but his wife was against God. Job asks God the same question over and over, Why? Job is now well known for his trust in God. It is really important to trust God. never give up. For my visual, I chose a doctor because you have to trust them that they will do what is right for you and your family.

Sinai Law

The ten commandments are a covenant with God. God wants his people to obey these commands, but I think that we can all admit that we have broken a few of these before. God gave us these commandments, not to smother us, but he gave them to us to protect us and give us guidelines. Do we still break them, yes, we are all human, but we need to try our best to not break them. In today’s world, we come up with idols, such as sports, electronics, our appearance, popularity, and many, many more! For my visual, I choose stone tablets because these are what God wrote the ten commandments on.

Native American Learning Movie.

♥Yesterday we went to see a documentary about Native American and the Standing Rock indian reservation called WE THE SEVENTH. they talked a lot about how Native Americans lived. They interviewed different people and they did different things. One time they interviewed and talked with a father & son and they did basket weaving. After the movie, we walked around this art gallery and we got to see some different baskets, and art work and different clothes. Overall, it wasn’t my favorite movie, I personally didn’t really like it. ♥

Living on One Dollar. – Mr. Lowe’s Class

Today in school we saw the movie Living on One Dollar.

It was about these four collage guys who went to Guatemala to experience what it would be like to live in poverty.

It was kind of cool to hear them interview other people and hear other people’s stories, sometimes we take clean water, a stove, a microwave, a stove, food always ready, and knowing that you are going to have  a meal, for granted, we don’t often think about people living in poverty, we just go about life not thinking about it.

When we get home from the grocery store we just put the food in the cupboards, and call it good, but for them, they don’t have refrigerators, they don’t have cupboards.

We often whine about not having anything to eat when we have so much. for them, when they are hungry, they are hungry. they don’t have a lot of money, they don’t have a lot of food, it is like they are living on tortillas and salt.

Overall, it was a great movie, and I really recommend it.

Destination Imagination

  • My team and I got 1st place at regionals, and 2nd place at state. getting 2nd place at state means that my team and I get the opportunity to go to Global Finals in Knoxville Tennessee. My goal is to raise $750.00 for the housing, food, etc… Thank you for helping me out by supporting my team and I. Every little bit helps!!!!
  • What is DI all about? What do you do in DI?
  • If you don’t know what DI is, it is a creative problem solving group work, competition.  Each group has a coach or coach and co-coach. It goes from ages 9-18 (Elementary to Secondary, or you could call it Senior Level) in your group you pick a challenge, (improvisational, Scientific, Fine arts, Service Learning, Early Learning, Engineering, and Technical challenge. ) each challenge requires research, problem solving, building, and lots of teamwork. Each challenge also has requirements that you have to include in your skit.
  • There is also another part to DI, that is the Instant Challenge. An Instant Challenge is where your group has to complete a task. It is also a challenge that is given to you. An appraiser (Judge) takes you in this room with supplies and the challenge. however, the hard part is, is that you can’t talk about the instant challenge until after Global Finals is over whether you make it there or not, you still can’t talk about it until after Global Finals is over. You get judged on finishing the task on time, teamwork, and whether you included all the requirements. There are two kinds of an instant challenge, a structural one and an acting one.
  • If you would like to make a contribution towards my trip to Knoxville, TN.  To perform at Destination Imagination Globals 2017.   You may make checks out to “ Zeeland Christian School” and mail check/or cash to my home address,  10912 James St, Zeeland, MI 49464.
  • *If you have pop cans that I can have to collect Money for my team, you may drop them off in our garage, or call my mom (772-4713) and we will come and pick them up.
  • THANKS AGAIN for your thoughts, prayers, and support!
