thoughts on Africa

In the beginning of class we talked about Africa and what comes to mind. We thought of Animals, and poverty. In my mind that is still a pretty good idea of Africa because there are many animals there we just talked about people. I know first hand that not all Africans are black because my cousin was born in Africa on a mission trip and her sister was born in Costa Rica. They both are pail white skin and light blue eyes with brown hair, and Necia was born in Africa.

In Africa something sad that hit me was that a drought was going on for two whole years and we know more about base ball then that. Now I know many of us would say oh well we don’t live in Africa so that doesn’t matter, we don’t have to care about them just us, but the truth is that is really sad. We should’ve heard about that in the news at least a little bit. Africa needs water and we helped with filters once but that is all we did, and to tell you the truth I really don’t remember it. That is just so sad.

Also in Africa something that I didn’t realize was lots of the countries have had civil wars, or just fought with their neighboring countries. A LOT in the past ten years and to me that is really sad. When you think about like us and Canada we don’t fight like at all but in Africa they fight a lot.

What surprised me today was that we never brought up animals because I always thought of Africa of the land of many animals like Madagascar and also like the Lion King. I saw an episode of the Amazing race a while ago and all you saw was animals and people on safaris with the animals. Also I noticed that they were scared of the Lions but would put scorpions in their mouths. I mean like thats crazy.

Something that I thought was sad was that like 40-60% of people have never set foot in a school and that is really sad.

That is what I think about Africa.

Good job on your paragraphs… I really liked how you talked about how all you thought about before the lesson was the animals and you (and I) found out how different the country really was.

I agree with what you said about your cousins, I didn’t know about them being different skin colors.

I agree with you libby that it is very sad that there is a drought in Africa and that we know more about baseball (I don’t know anything about baseball) and i saw that amazing race and I didn’t know that there where civil wars ether.
