How can I be light in a Dark World?

Matthew 5:13-15

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

How can I be a light in our dark world?

I can be a light  in our dark world by service. If I serve others they may see my good works that will glorify our father in heaven. In other words, if I am serving a non-christian and they see me doing it heartily, they may wonder what makes me do it with a good attitude and ask why. I can tell them about Jesus Christ living in me and possibly bring them to Christ.

Serving God at Heritage Nursing Home

Yesterday, me Miah, and Maya had the opportunity to go to Heritage nursing Home to volunteer there. Heritage Nursing Home serves elderly People who can’t take care of themselves. We (Miah, Maya, and me and Maya’s grandpa) walked there yesterday at 1:00 pm and got there around 1:05pm. Once we settled all  the technical stuff, the Activity leader, Rebekah, took us into a bright room. She carried markers, crayons, and colored pencils with her along with some papers with birds, butterfly’s, and flowers on them. We helped her set up the stuff by pushing 2 tables together and making room for some wheel chairs. Then Rebekah came back in with 2 ladies. They came to the table, shortly joined by a man and and another lady. We began coloring with them and it was really enjoyable. Me and a man named Denny started talking. He told me that he had been at Heritage for more  than 7 years. I found that incredible, that a person who lives his life in a nursing home could be so chatty and upbeat.  We colored for an hour and 20 minutes or so. And then one 2 woman left. Me, Miah, and Maya started to pack up the stuff we weren’t using anymore and then we left. I knew right before we left, that if that was serving God, I defiantly wanted to do that again.

How can I apply Matthew 5:1-12 in my life?

How can I apply some of the beatitudes in my life?

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (vs. 6)

One Way I can apply this beatitude to my life is if I just do what this verse says: I can hunger and thirst for righteousness, and God, always true to his promises, will fill me with his Holy Righteousness. And I want to have God's righteousness, I want to be more like him. So simply by doing what this part of Matthew 5:1-12 says, I can be closer to God.

Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy. (vs.7)

When I show compassion to those in need, I am being merciful to them and to God. That is good and for my works I will be show mercy from God.
