on This summer, I did a lot of really cool things. I played a lot a blitzball with my sister which was really fun. I also went swimming a lot this summer. We swam at our Grandpa and Grandma’s pool. We went to our cottage once. We did a lot of different things there. We played on the rope swing. We also went swimming in the lake. I went tubing with my cousins behind the boat. I had so much fun this summer doing so many different things.
on I was surprised when the people were laughing after the bombing. I can’t believe that people would laugh and be happy about killing four little girls. If I grew up in a place like that I wouldn’t know what to do, because I would want to do the right thing that a Christian would do, but I wouldn’t want to get myself killed. I learned how hard it was for the blacks who lived in Birmingham at that time. Bombings became a constant thing, and lots of people died because of their skin color. I think that racism still happens a lot today. I don’t know how we can stop it because there will always be people who think that they are better than people that look different than them. I think that I didn’t really pay attention to this until reading this book. I think that we don’t realize how much racism still affects us and how much of it there still is around us. I feel like we do this and yet we don’t even notice when we are doing it. We may not be killing little girls, but we definitely treat certain people better/worse than others. I think that what I learned the most was that we don’t pay attention to what is going around us and we focus too much on electronics or other things that are important to us in life.
on Kenya is closing their refuge camps, which includes El Dadaab, the world’s largest refugee camp. This problem could leave over 600,000 people stranded with no homes. Many people are arguing over this because they don’t like 600,000 people not having a place to live and having nowhere to go. Armed conflicts are the main reason for the closing, as people believe that these refugee camps could be housing terrorists. I feel like we talked more about where the refugees would go rather than what we could do to stop this. I think that the biggest challenge was that nobody really had the exact perspective of their country and tried to come up with an idea that they thought would be good, not their country. I had fun because I got to see what a real debate like that looks like and I got to disagree in a nice way.

on I liked the movie because Nelson Mandela was a very smart person. It was cool how so many black people voted for him. At the beginning whites and blacks didn’t really like each other that much. But at the end all of the people were playing rugby together. Nelson Mandela really changed the way that they looked at each other. You could see that both the white and black security guards were mad at each other in the beginning, but came together in the end. I think that we need to pick the president this year that we think will always make the best decisions for the entire country.
on I learned that there are 118 different elements and more to be discovered.

on NAMES
Our names mean something. We can think of them as a call from God of what we are meant to do in this broken world. My name, Isaiah, means God is salvation. Certain parts of names mean different things. El means God is the creator. YHWH means God is caring. Elijah is a cool name in the Bible because he showed people that God is the only God, which is what his name means. Every name means something and it is our call to what we are supposed to do in life. This picture shows some of the more well known names in the Bible because they all mean something that is special to that name.
COVENANT
A covenant is a agreement between 2 people or groups of people. There are 2 different kinds of covenants. First of all, there is conditional, which means that both parties must keep their terms, or do what they promised no matter what. Then there is an unconditional, which is when only the more powerful party must keep their promise. An example of an unconditional covenant is Noah’s Ark. God promised that no matter what, he would never flood the whole earth ever again. An example of a conditional covenant is the covenant at Mt. Sinai. If the Israelites followed the 10 commandments, then they would be given many blessings. I used this visual because we use a handshake to show an agreement between 2 people.
CONFLICT/DOUBT
We all have things that we are sad about it our life. That is why we need to bring our doubts to God. We need to put our full trust in him because he does everything for a reason. Many people are sad if someone gets sick or if someone dies, and they get frustrated with God because they know that he is in control of everything. But sometimes we look at the bad side, when God is always doing it for a good reason. If someone dies, they are going to live in a better place with God forever. I chose this visual because devotionals are great ways to talk to God about anything.
A SAVIOR
The Old testament hints at Jesus coming. It hints at a new covenant that will be made. We will receive grace and forgiveness, but we will lose Jesus until he comes back again or we see him in heaven. We can find hints of God everywhere. This world is probably one of the most obvious. We need to be more aware of the hints God is giving us. Remember that everything is a gift from him. I chose this visual because sometimes we need to be able to take a step back and see all the hints God has given us.
SOMETHING IS ROTTEN
When Israel wanted kings, one of them was Ahab. Aha led them to worship Baal. God was very angry, so He sent a prophet named Elijah. Elijah showed that God was the true God. He made the people put buckets of water on logs. They did, and when Elijah called to God, He set the logs on fire. We all have things that we worship and sometimes put ahead of God. For me, one of those things is sports. I focus too much on winning, rather than doing my best and doing so in a way that pleases God. Everyone has something that they put ahead of God, and we always need to put God first.
SYMBOL OF A LAMP
In the Bible, God makes a covenant with David that his line would always rule. Many kings came after this, some good and some bad. But you may ask yourself who is the king right now? I don’t think there is a king of the U.S. or other places like that. But there is a king of the entire universe, and that king is Jesus. He is the ruler of everything. This is how God is keeping his promise. I chose this visual because this is a picture at Artprize. There are so many little lights, but Jesus is the true light and the king that will reign forever.
SALUTE TO A KING
At one point, Israel wanted a melek. A melek is a military leader, or for them, like a king. But God wanted them to have a nagid. A nagid is a God follower, like a prophet. Israel refused. Sometimes we refuse to take what God wants us to have, because we want something else. We want more things, when all that we really need is Jesus. I chose this visual because these are some very good basketball players that I look up to. But maybe God wants me to follow other people in life. I need to figure that out and listen to God.
SLAVERY/SALVATION
on 1. Our instrument is different lengths of PVC pipe taped together to make different pitches. When you hit the holes at the end of the pipes, it will make a pitch.
2. We thought that we would hit the pipes on the outside with a drumstick but that didn’t make a tune because the stick was made of wood and it made a bad sound rather than a pitch.

on This life of working in mines 10 hours a day is killing me. I can’t work all day and be expected to not take any breaks. Why do the people think that we are not deserving of living up above ground. And why would they think that I might rebel against them? I mean sure yeah it is not fair that I have to do this when they get to live in the palace, but it isn’t fair that they can do whatever they want and I have to work in a mine all day without even taking a 5 minute break.
These Spartan people are getting on my nerves but I would never rebel because I would have no chance against any of them or else they would take me down. I wish I could live up there with them in the palace, but my job as a slave is to work down here in the mines.
I wish I could go over to Athens so I would actually work around the house and actually have Lunch. I do not like this job of being a mineworker, but there is nothing I can do to get out of it.
The spartans are so bad to us, I mean they don’t even care. They just think, “ Oh, if we want to, we can just do whatever we want to do with them. Maybe even kill them.” The Spartan Government is an Oligarchy which is a small group of people. They create laws to make themselves even richer than they already are and make the poorer even poorer than they already are. I wish I could give those Oligarchs a piece of my mind. I’d tell them that they need to not be so selfish and start taking notice of their people.
Our economy is mainly based on farming on our own and conquering other people. The people that they conquered were usually brought here to work in the mines like me. All of the Spartans discouraged trade. Why do they think that getting ideas from other people will make our economy even worse? I don’t think it could even get any worse.
Our education is pretty bad too. If a baby did not appear strong and healthy, they would probably be left on a hillside to die. Everyone needed to be healthy and strong so that we can protect our City-State. By the age of 7, citizens were all prepared to fight. But then there is me. I was born into this, so I never got the opportunity to go to school because of the stupid slavery.
So that is my story and as you can tell, it kinda sucks. But hey, it’s better than nothing. I hope you can see what it was like for us back in Ancient Sparta and that life was perfect for the wealthy and the exact opposite for the poor.
on In Culture class, we read the book I am Malala. I really like this book because it is told from her perspective. Malala was a girl in Pakistan who loved school. Then the Taliban moved into her community and destroyed every school. When Malala stood up for her school and talked against the Pakistan, her Dad gets a note. It is a death threat to Malala. Then one day when she is riding home on the bus…

on on In the Egypt presentation my group studied two things they were the arts and technology. I had 4 people in my group they were Owen, JP, Jacob, and me. We worked good together. I think we got a lot of stuff done on the first day of getting our table ready.
Something I learned was that JP was a really good drawer, he drew the graffiti. Another thing I learned was that Owen is a really good studier. Another thing is that Jacob is good at making presentations. Finally me I learned that I am very organized at sometimes.
It is a good thing that we got put in groups because if we didn’t have each other we would have gone no ware on the project. It is good that we have computers right now other wise we would be in deep trouble than we would have to go to Egypt and learn there. My group prepared very well because my group used our time wisely not playing games at times we were not supposed to. My group was good at presenting because we talked to the people who came up to our table.
on For the last couple weeks we have been researching about Egypt and last we we presented our exhibits which we made with the research we studied. In our exhibit we had hummus, falafels, flatbread, and crackers.We also had boats and carving tools that we explained to the people who came to our exhibit.
In our group we had Christian, Henry T., Caleb W., and me. I learned that when Christian is focused he helps by telling the group what we should be doing and what we have to do personally. I learned that Henry is a good leader and that he will take charge and tell people what to bring for the exhibit. I learned that Caleb helps because he is not as serious so he helped put fun into the project and he was really good at making the carving tools.
I think it was really important to learn about Egypt because they made a lot of technology that we cant even understand, and they also have made some thing that we still use even today. I think it was really important that they put us in groups because it will help when we grow up and have to work with people that maybe we like and maybe we don”t like. In conclusion I had a lot of fun with the Egypt project because I got to learn a lot that I didn’t know about Egypt.
on I think the most fun part about band is the songs we are playing. I really like clash and roar because of the minor key and it actually sounds like a battle. I also like the unfinished symphony because it is a mix of a lot of cool and old classical music written by some of the most famous composers. I like rock around the clock because it is really catchy and really fun when everyone plays it right.
on Lately, in math, I have learned that a lot of things are easier once you know how to do it. I really like math this year because we get to learn at our own pace. I also really like the lessons this year. It is more of a challenge for me beacause we are learning more harder stuff. So far this year math is my favorite subject.
on The Mysterious Benedict Society is my favorite book because it is fun and full of action.

In science we made a marble roller coaster for our unit of Forces and Gravity. Our marble roller coaster was made on March 28. The people in my group were Bradley, Bret, Katelyn, and Jake. The materials we used were foam pipe insulation which was cut in half and we used tape. Our course started with a long downhill slope and then a loop. Then we made our coaster go under a table and through the bars, and to finish we had a bank at the end. our marble roller coaster was really fun to make and worked out very well.
