God at Work

God was at work in Paul’s life having a plan for him his entire life. God has plans for my future too. I think I will adopt when I am older because many people I know have adopted and it is something that I think I very important that kids who don’t have a family need. I also think that God has some plan for me with kids because I feel like I am really good with them, and I love being around them. These are some things that I am very passionate about ad I think God is planning for my future right now.

Volcano Project

In science we made a volcano. We did not have ours explode, but we had ash cinders and bombs thrown out of the vent. It was fun. We used paper mache, which I had never used before.

Christian Persecution

Christian persecution happens all over the world, but there are many ways we can help. Christian persecution has been happening since 54 AD. Christians have been persecuted for a long time and are still being persecuted today, and we need to help them when they can’t help themselves.

Christians are not just persecuted today, but have been persecuted since Jesus was born. Christians have been persecuted since 54 AD, when The Roman Empire was ruled by Nero, a wicked king who despised Christians. In 64 AD, a fire broke out and , which is not good for destroyed most of Rome, he blamed it on the “Christian religion.” For some reason, people actually believed this, so Nero went along with the idea and started arresting, torturing and killing as many Christians as he found. Nero was seen dancing on his roof while the fires raged and Christians were martyred. In about 250 AD, Decius, the Roman Emperor at the time, persecuted Christians in a terrible way. If they did not follow his god, he would either torture them brutally or just kill them.

Today, Christians are persecuted every day in Somalia, in ways we cant even imagine. Somalia today is the second worst persecuted country in the world. Out of all the countries in the world, Christians are being persecuted and dying the most in Somaila. In Somalia many people are killed because of their faith by Al-Shabaab, a terrorist group in the middle east in Northern Africa who’s main goal is to kill all people who don’t commit to their religion. The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, has not publicly announced what his religion is, so he is a target for many terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab, which is not good for Christians because Mohamed has helped the Christians in many different ways. Other things that are happening in Somalia that can affect the Christians are a Civil war and a famine. At the moment a brutal civil war is happening between political parties, and Al-Shabaab is getting in on the action as well. If you are on the wrong side of the war, and you get caught, you are probably going to die. There is also a famine going on. Most people in Somalia are very low on food and water and have nothing to eat or drink. Many people are dying of starvation or thirst, and this is affecting a great population of the country, some Christians. As you can see, Somalia is one of the most dangerous places to live in the world, especially when the life expectancy rate is only 54 years old. That means that in Somalia, you would only be expected to live for 54 years.

Even with all of the bad things going on, there is still hope for all of the Christians who are being persecuted in Somalia, and we are that hope. We need to help the people, because they can’t help themselves and they need a lot of help. There are a lot of different ways people like you are helping the persecuted Christians in Somalia. People like Open Doors USA are helping them by collecting donations for them, so missionaries can help them when they see them.

Christian persecution happens all over the world, but there are many ways we can help. There are many different ways that you can help. The first and easiest, yet one of the most important ways is simply praying for the persecuted. God will hear and answer your prayers. Another way you can help them is sending them an encouraging letter or note that reminds them that you are praying for them and God is with them. A last way you could help is by donating some money to go to the persecuted, because a lot of them do not have a safe home, or even food or water. These are not the only ways you can help them though. There are many other things you can do to help them. In conclusion, Christians have been persecuted since Bible times, and are still being persecuted today, so we need to help them by praying for them.

This is our pythagorean theorem project. The zip line, ground, and tree complete a right triangle. We made the tree out of  popsicle sticks and green paper. we made the ground out of paper too. we made the zip line out of string. We had a lot of fun, and we also learned a lot about how zip lines could be made.

God Sightings

I saw God this weekend in friends. He gives us friends in the world, but we don’t realize how big of a blessing it is. We need friends because otherwise, we wouldn’t really have anyone to do anything with in this world.

The Young Elites

The book that I am currently reading is called The Young Elites. The book is about a girl named Adelina who has the power to create any illusion. She gets recruited by a team with powers like her called the young elites. The inquisition axis, who tries to hunt the young elites, has Adelina’s sister locked, as she has a power of her own. This is a book about trust between adelina and her sister, the inquisition, and the young elites. I learned that you need trust people who trust you back.

This book showed many challenges for Adelina. When her sister is locked up, the inquisition says they will free her for information of who the young elites really are. What they don’t know is that the leader of the young elites is really the prince, but the queen, who is his sister, banished him. Adelina must learn to use her powers before they kill her sister, but she does not tell the elites because they will kill her if she doesn’t focus and learn her powers fast enough. She must figure out how to keep her sister alive, but still keep the trust of the elites before they kill her first. I see the theme because she needs to gain the elites trust so that she can trust them to save her sister. I learned from this that you need trust people who trust you back.

This book shows challenges for Adelina when she learns that her sister has the power to take away an elite’s power. She needs to learn how to use her powers along with her sister to defeat the leader of the inquisition axis and, its leader, Teren, who has his own power. He can heal himself immediately from any pain. This leads to problems for the elites as they try to regain the throne for their leader, Enzo. They know that Adelina’s sister, Violetta, could be the way to destroy the queen and the “unkillable Teren.” They do this at an event called the Tournament of Storms, but the inquisition is too strong. Teren fights against Enzo and Adelina for a fight to the death. Teren strike Adelina hard and she goes unconscious. When she regains consciousness, she uses all her might to use her pain power on Teren, but she uses it on the wrong person, and kills Enzo. She then leaves because she has lost the trust of the elites. I learned from this that you need trust people who trust you back.

This is one of my favorite books that I have ever read because everyone has a different power and uses it in a different way, rather that be helping or destroying. I would like to read the rest of this series because I can’t wait to see what happens next to Adelina and Violetta when the leave the elites. I want to know if the elites can destroy Teren and Queen Giulietta without them, and if Adelina will try to destroy the as well. I learned a lot of things in the book, like the fact that you need trust people who trust you back.

Science Chain

We made a chain in science this week that had to hold as much water as possible with a limited amount of resources. My group used 10 rubber bands, 1 pipe cleaner, 2 straws, and some tape and string. Above is a picture of it. We double up some of the rubber bands to hold more water. We hang the heaviest bottles of water on the straws and the others on the rubber bands.

Names of Jesus

This week in bible we have been learning about the different names of Jesus. The name that I got was Immanuel. Immanuel means God with us. I like this because it is saying that God loves us so much that he would send His only Son as a baby on earth.

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Selfless

I had such a fun time at camp this week learning about God. I learned a lot about how to be a leader. We did some fun games, but also had some serious moments that were really good too. I like our theme because people think of themselves before others and we need to think of others first. I can apply this theme to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian and to my life in the community and in the world.

This year’s theme can apply to my life here at Zeeland Christian. When I was a seventh and sixth grader, I was scared of the eighth graders because they were so big and so much older. I want to change that for the sixth and seventh graders because that would be a good way of being selfless. I don’t just want to help the younger kids though. I want to be selfless to the teachers because they are being selfless because they help me learn. I can be selfless by helping a teacher with something after school if they need help. We don’t notice how much people like Mr. Meeuwsen do around the school. I could be selfless by picking up the commons after school. That would help him and also make our school look better. I can apply this theme to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian and to my life in the community and in the world.

This year’s theme also applies to my life outside of school. I need to not only help people inside, but outside of school as well. I could help someone carry their groceries out of the store. This would be selfless because then they would not have to do it by theirself and I would be helping them and I would be putting them before myself. I could also give a poorer person some food, because they don’t have the money to by it by theirself. I can apply this theme to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian and to my life in the community and in the world.

I can apply this theme to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian and to my life in the community and in the world. I could help people with something, give someone something, or clean up something that I didn’t do. This year, I hope that I can be more selfless.

Science boat

unnamed

This week we made a boat in science. A picture of it is above. We used styrofoam for the base and put aluminum . We attached a small piece of a cup to the back for a little more push. We put some dowel rod and popsicle sticks on the back to add weight to the back so it didn’t sink. We made a sail with a notecard and popsicle sticks. We put pipe cleaners on the sides to reduce the friction on the edges of the track. Our boat got 2nd place with a time of 7.83 seconds.
