When Christopher Columbus went across the pacific ocean, he was really trying to find a faster trade route to India because they needed peppercorn for seasoning. When traders would travel across land people could steal it and it took a long time for them to get there because they had to go across Europe and part of Asia. When Columbus got to the Caribbean islands, he said “Hi Indians!” And so the name stuck until today. He thought he was in India so he called them Indians. Then he went back to the King and Queen of Spain and he told them he had found a faster trade route to India. Then they made him go back and make them all into slaves. But once he made them into slaves, they started getting European diseases. And the Natives (Not Indians) did not have the right type of cures in their bodies to get better, so they all started dying. I know, it’s sad. So they ran out of slaves so they went to Africa and got slaves from there. And if you connect all the puzzle pieces, that’s how all of the slaves got to America because they slowly started exploring North and South America.
