This week in bib we have been studying different names of Jesus. This verse I was given was Matthew 12:18 and it talked about Jesus being a servant. I also connected it to how Jesus washed the disciples’ feet. I think that this names connects more to Jesus humanity because humans are suppose to be servants to God, but in this case Jesus is our servant.

In science class we had to make boats. We had a list of supplies and how much supplies that we could use. We made the middle out of a Styrofoam cup and pontoons out of styrofoam. We covered the whole thing in Aluminium foil. We made a sail out of a note card and a wooden dowel. We put a film canister on the back for weight filled with water. We put balloons connected to straws for a force of power. We hope that it floats well and that it doesn’t sink.

This summer I went to visit my Cousins and Grandparents in Minnesota while my parent went to Dorr County. I had so much fun seeing my cousins. I also got to go to my cousins cabin and got to watch my cousins and my siblings go tubing because I had a broken arm. I also got to go to Camp Geneva with my friends Brooke, Jade, and Emma and we had so much fun. This summer I also went to Disney with my other cousins. We went to Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. My favorite ride was Expedition Everest (which we went in 2 times in a row) or Soarin’. It was super fun because our resort was super close to Magic Kingdom so we could see Fireworks from our Balcony. This summer I also got my cast of so I could do the normal everyday things. This summer was filled with so many fun memories, but I am glad to be back in school.

Summary-The book While The World Watched is about a girl named Carolyn. She was a black living in Birmingham Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement. She was in the Church during the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing and her close friends died in that massacre. This book talks about the segregation in the south and how horribly people treated the blacks Birmingham. It also talks about the KKK (the klu klux klan) Emmett Till, Sarah Collins and Martin Luther King Jr, John F Kennedy, Jim Crow, and Catherine Genovese. The book also talks about her after life and how the bombing changed her for better and for worse.
What stood out- I think the biggest thing that stood out to me was just how mean people were to each other, in the children’s march especially. It just was said to read about how much they were hurt just to stand up for themselves and their parents rights. They knew that if their parents would go and march that they would go to jail and then they would have to make money by themselves or not have a parent at home. So they let themselves go to jail. They went to jail so that their grandkids would not have to drink from a separate drinking fountains than the other people in the world.
What happened- After all of the protest the whites finally caved in. With help from Rosa Parks, MLK jr., JFK and many others that helped save the country, continent, and our worlds. It still is not close to perfect, but everyday I think we get a little closer to what heaven would be like. Weather the people we interact with are black, asian, latino, anything and everything we will all be welcomed someday. Like the words from a hymn that was sung many times by people protesting against segregation, We shall overcome, we shall overcome, We shall overcome someday, Oh, deep in my heart I do believe, We shall overcome someday.
What did I learn- I never even knew about all of these bombings and protest and the marches and the KKK but now I know and I can be more aware of what happened and how to stop it if it would ever happen again. I also learned that when a tragedy happens to someone don’t be afraid to talk about it, other wise if you hold up all of the anger and sadness and frustration in your heart than you will never get over it.
Lessons- I learned to talk about life’s tragedies talk about it. I think that the people of Birmingham just wanted to forget what happened. They completely shut it out of their minds so they wouldn’t have to remember what happened on September 15 . The reason why they wanted to forget it was that they didn’t’ want to get in trouble They didn’t want the KKK to come and destroy their house and businesses. It makes me wonder what I would have done and how I would have responded to the bombing, would I have cared?

On the boat trip I learned about the difference between lakes that are oligotrophic, mesotrophic and eutrophic what lakes are examples of them. I learned how to dissolve oxogen which was really cool. I also learned about blood worms and invasive species. I Dissolved oxygen- gas in water/ you add chemicals into the water until turns colors/ tells you how much plant life their is. And I also samapled the bottom – sampling the bottom of the lake/ sonar grab sampler/ can be inspected for sediment and other rocks and decaying objects and organisms

Today In school we watched the movie Invictus. It is about Nelson Mandela and how he brought the country of South Africa together with rugby. Some things that I learned about New Zeeland is how much blacks and whites hated each other. I learned that people can really be brought together with a sport and that all people can learn to love each other.

The reason why I liked the Pink Helmet Posse because it showed that these girls are brave and are showing people that girls under all that pink and tutus and the were just awesome. The reason I liked the skype one because it showed how social media can connect us to people all over the world.

In Nova’s Hunting The Elements video I learned many things. One of the cool things I learned was that a 60 pound block of gold would be worth 1.5 million dollars. Another cool thing I learned about gold is that if you would put of the gold that was mined in the whole world together it would beabout 60 feet on one side. One of the cool things I learned was that Fiesta ware bowls get their orange color from uranium and they are actually dangerously radioactive. The last cool thing I learned is that neodymium magnets repel sharks. And people use them on fishing lines so than they don’t catch sharks when fishing. The part I enjoyed the most is the part when they made glass that was so strong that it almost can be bent.
