8th Grade Shadow Day

May 1 was Shadow Day, and I shadowed Diane Kooiker who works at the Herrick District Library.

During this day, she started out by introducing me to a bunch of people who work with her at the library. She showed me that a lot more computer work goes into it than I realized. There are people who work to keep the library running. I later helped out in the children’s section, doing some time with reading to kids and then later I helped to make a tree for the Dr. Seuss book area. I also helped out the lady who makes pretty much all of the decorations for the library out of paper mache.

I learned about the different things that made the library run (like a conveyor belt that picks up books), and about the different jobs that go into it. I really enjoyed Shadow Day, and I think it would be fun to do it again sometime.
