Newsletter 32: Week ending 5/26

Dear Families,

As I look back on this year my heart is filled with gratitude. Your kids have grown as language learners, authors, readers, scientists, and mathematicians. They have made new friends and learned more about what it means to be a good friend. They have grown in their faith, learning more about Christ , how God has worked in the lives of people throughout history and still works in our lives today, and how to burn brightly for Him. They have learned to be more resilient, persevere, be proud of themselves, and humble themselves before God. Wow, God is good!

I’m thankful for each child entrusted to our care this year and the opportunity I’ve had to be a small part of their learning at ZCS. I’m thankful for you, their parents, for partnering with me and always supporting me in and out of the classroom. (It was a big year for the Izenbaard family!)

There will not be a blog post next week, but other important and special things will come home like your child’s baton, summer reading bookmark, and other artifacts of learning. Please look for these in the coming days. I pray you have a restful and fun summer. Please don’t be strangers as your child moves on to 2nd grade! They’ll always be “my” students!

In His love,

Maestra Izenbaard

Dear Families,

It was an exciting week! On Tuesday morning the kids got to show what they’ve learned and what they’re reading to learn next by doing the MAP test for reading. On Wednesday afternoon it was finally our turn to check out the 4th graders hard work on Market Day! We look forward to lots more learning and fun end-of-year things, including a field trip, chapel, family group and spiritual journal entries in the coming weeks!

Have a great weekend,

Maestra Izenbaard

Newsletter 30: Week ending 5/12

Dear Families,

Happy Tulip Time! I hope you enjoyed your week of elephant ears, parades, and Dutch dancing! (Or avoiding the crowds if that’s more your thing!)

We are officially done with the aalpa! Your kids worked so hard! The assessment started with a comprehension guide on a poem/song we learned. Then each child had a conversation with a peer about where the sun goes during the night and what kids in Chine do while we’re sleeping. They shared opinions and asked questions. Finally they presented their information by sharing a poster with the class that is hanging in our hallway now. Every child scored higher and higher on each section of the assessment which tells me they were learning a lot! So exciting!

Once again, thank you for sharing your children with us! One thing I specifically noticed this week was their thoughtfulness toward each other and me. They make me smile every day!

Newsletter 29: Week ending 5/5

Dear Families,

Happy first week of May! Thank you for all of your acts of kindness this week! We feel very appreciated! We feel blessed to be able to spend our days with your kiddos and love all of you!

It’s come to our attention that a few items have been lost, or perhaps even taken here at school. This breaks our hearts. We’ve had many good conversations at school, done restorative circles, and given chances to make things right. We still have many more questions than answers. All that being said, it feels like a good time to remind everyone not to bring toys or other special things from school. Unfortunately, we just can’t keep good track of them here and we don’t want anything to get lost or damaged! This includes things your child may want to play with at recess. It might be a good idea to give your child a general reminder about respecting other people’s things too.

In happier news, May brings lots of exciting things- Fun Night, DI fundraisers, MAP testing, aalpa project, spiritual journal entries, and many more! Your kids continue to bring their very best to school each day and we’re proud of them! We also know it can be a lot for a family to keep track of! Please let us know if you have questions about anything!
