When I woke up this morning I was sore from the day of training before I got hungry so I stole some bread from my neighbor’s house. My father has been at war for five years now so my mother remarried a slave after giving him the money to buy his freedom. It was unheard of! She has leaned to fight to keep out burglars. Me and my friends have already finished my basic reading and writing classes and am starting my harder physical training. We have underwent starvation very recently. I am scared of complaining because I might be whipped and hurt. My name is Gaia this is my life in the great city of Sparta. The oligarchs are very self centered but have helped build a strong army for us. It is a hard life here once we had too many slaves or helots in our country so the Oligarchs decided if we thought a slave was going to plot against us then we should kill him. In fact at one time they got we got so scared we told the helots to choose their best fighters which happened to be a couple of our slaves and told then they would be set free for fighting for our land and then we slaughtered all of them. Our slaves did lots of things for us not many were like that of other cities because we notice that they can still do fine detailed work and they are also humans. But still we treat them very harshly so they won’t revolt.
