Our instrument was a rainstick. It was made out of a giant PVC pipe and nails and marbles, rice, and beans. We made it by drilling about 50 holes in the PVC pipe and sticking holes into all of them. Then we added the rice, beans, and marbles so that it would make different pitches. The way that it works is that you hold it upright and all of the rice, marbles, and beans fall to the bottom. As they make their way to the bottom, they hit the nails and make noise. Every item in there makes a different pitch. The challenge was that we changed our idea midway through so we had to work hard and hurry so that we could get it done in time. It is called the torture machine because it looks like a torture weapon.
