November 11, 2019

Dear parents,

Thank you so much for your active participation for the drawing game! Your kids are such good teachers, and you are such good students. I have received lots of good audios and fun videos. To tell you one important truth, your kids’ word recognition test scores are very high this week. I think this game contributes to the high scores. Please keep up this fun game with your kids.

Your kids will be coming home with a paper copy of their report card on Tuesday. We would like to encourage you to take some time to look them over. The format of the report is new. Therefore, please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any questions as you look it over.

His Harvest Stand

In this time of giving, ZCS is going to bless His Harvest Stand, a local food pantry, with cereal and peanut butter. Encourage your child to choose a favorite box of cereal or jar of peanut butter at the store, and bring it to school by Tuesday, Nov. 26. A table will be set up in the front hallway for dropoff or have your child bring it to their classroom. Please help us fill the shelves of His Harvest Stand! Thank you for blessing others in our community!

Reader’s Theatre and Writing

The kids have been working hard on reading the script fluently. Lots of them can even recite their scripts! This week, students are going to draw some pictures for their reader’s theatre background. Afterwards, we are going to record it and publish it!

Again, here is the English script one_potato__two_potato and the Mandarin script 读者剧场-一个土豆,两个土豆

Students are going to continue writing their own follow-up stories for One Potato, Two Potato.

Mandarin High Frequency Words to Produce and to recognize:

Students will learn a new set of words. I will send out homework sheets on Monday. There will be a test on Friday for words to produce and to recognize.

Here is this week’s quizlet for flashcard words. The last two words are only for 3rd graders. If 2nd graders are interested, go ahead and give it a try.  https://quizlet.com/_7h8zie

Please see below to find how to use this quizlet.

How to use the quizlet? Don’t use the flashcards on the top. Instead, go under and go to the “Terms in the set”. For each word, your kid should first say out the pronunciation and think of its meaning by him/herself. Then, click the sound button on the right. It will read the word in Chinese and the English definition. I want to make this available to everyone. So if somehow you cannot access the feature that I’ve mentioned, please let me know.

Pinyin:

Able to recognize “ai”, “ei” “ui”
