What did I learn from the Civil War muster?

I learned that the Civil war was tough times for everyone even if you weren’t actually fighting. Your relatives would all be at war so only the girls would be home waiting from a letter from their dad. If you didn’t get one that would probably mean he died. If you we’re at war your life would be even harder. You probably had a 75% chance of dying everyday. That didn’t mean you would necessarily die while fighting. You could die of diseases and injuries and other things.
I also learned about the band. They (I think) all played instruments that Mr.Adolphe Sax invented. Mr.Sax is now more famous for another one of his inventions, the Saxophone. The band marched right behind the people that carried the flag in the front. That means that they had a pretty good chance of being killed too. The band’s job was too keep the soldiers on the beat when they were marching.
We also learned about the songs that they sang during the Civil war. They are WEIRD songs compared to today’s songs.
I learned about what the people back at home (not at war) would do too. If you we’re normally poor, you would still be poor. If you we’re normally wealthy, you would start losing money because an adult sized dress cost approximately 13 dollars. A Private, (the lowest rank) made 13 dollars either a year or a month, I forget.
Well,that’s all for now folks!
