Danger of the Single Story

There are a lot of things in life where, we hear stories about people or things or places, and we stereotype them based on just that one story we hear. One of the things that I, and a lot of other people have is a stereotype about Africa, I used to think that all there was to Africa was a bunch of people that were poor and didn’t have enough water. But going through this social studies unit I realized that Africa isn’t those few things that I thought it was. Africa is a place full of life, and color, it’s a place with awesome, creative, and loving people. That’s what is so dangerous about the single story, it can completely ruin the chance to learn about a new place or even taking a chance on it. My point is, there is so much that you miss if you go by just what one person says, experience it for yourself.
