Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, Giving thanks to God the father through him.

Selfless

As seventh graders we all gathered together in the gym of Faith Church one afternoon. We were there with the eighth grader teachers to pick our theme, and we chose Selfless. To me Selfless is more than a couple of actions, if you are selfless you are always willing to do things for others, even if it takes time out of your life. You are willing to sacrifice. In the gym we all picked themes, some of the best ones got voted on by the whole grade. Even though all the themes were great, Selfless was the one we chose. I can apply this theme to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian School and to my life in the community and in the world.

This years theme can apply to my life here at Zeeland Christian School. After lunch the room is usually left a mess. With wrappers and food on the tables and the floors and the chairs in random places. I could be selfless and take the time out of my recess to clean up the classroom even if I already cleaned up after myself. At recess Sam always needs a buddy. Even if I would rather hang out with my friends, I could take one recess to be Sam’s friend and I know it would be worth it. After people use the commons, they are sometimes left a mess. Even though I might not be the one leaving them messy I could clean them up. I could throw away the trash and wrappers and I could put the chairs back where they belong. Cleaning them up would make them look so much nicer and it really wouldn’t take that much to do it.

This years theme could also apply to my life outside of school. At my house, my siblings like to play with toys. Even though I don’t usually leave the mess I could clean their stuff up for them. I could clean up just my stuff and make my siblings pick up their own, or I could be selfless and pick up their stuff too. Another way I enjoy being selfless is by volunteering at our church’s sunday school program. I take time out of my Sunday mornings and teach sunday school class to the preschool and kindergarteners.
I can apply the theme “Selfless” to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian School and to my life in the community and in the world. I can do simple things like help clean up after lunch or volunteer at church. Even if I don’t want to spend my time doing things that aren’t what I want to do, being selfless is making someone else’s day better even if it isn’t what you would have chosen to do.
