Water Erosion Project0

This is a project that I did in Science. It is a model that shows water erosion. The model on the right is before an the left is after. Many changes occurred due to water erosion. It created some meanders, a water fall, the two rivers joined each other, and the rivers became wider and deeper. We had to teach the class a couple to vocabulary words that they didn’t already know. My group choose the words: Gully Erosion, Rill Erosion, Alluvial Fan, Delta, Floodplain, Oxbow lake, Tributary, and meander. Water erosion is a very powerful thing that shapes and is forming the surface of our earth each and everyday. unnamed

In science class I made a volcano. It’s a composite volcano modeled after the Izaico volcano in El Salvador. It has ten different labeled parts. It has a cloud of volcanic ash, a crater, lava flow, Pyroclastic flow, lava and ash layers, a magma chamber, the pipe, a side vent, and composite volcano is also labeled. This was a very fun and exciting project. I learned a lot about volcanos

Mystery0

Beeeeep… Beeeeep… Bee… Ellenor turned off her alarm clock, silencing the horrible sound. It was too early to be awake she decided. “Okay,” Ellenor thought to herself still half asleep, “I need a couple of more minutes, I went to bed way too late last night because Zoey was here. I will just lay in bed for 5 more minutes, just to wake up a little bit, and then I’ll get up….”

“Elllleeenn!… Ellen?… Ellenor! Get down here, your breakfast is going to get cold!” Debra shouted to her daughter from downstairs. “Noah, will you go see what your sister is doing, and tell her that she needs to come eat her breakfast!”

“Ugh fine,” 11 year old Noah mumbled with his mouth full.

“And, please, don’t talk with your mouth fu… oh that reminds me… Where did I put my grocery list? I’ve gotta add eggs to it, you just finished off the last of them.”

“Well that doesn’t surprize me,” Selena brushed her hair as she walked over to the table, “he ate four of them.” Noah stuck his tongue out at his sister, which still had scrambled eggs on it.

“You two stop it! And I thought I told you to go get Ellen!” Debra scolded Noah.

Noah got up from his chair and walked down the hall, sticking his tongue out at Selena one more time before going upstairs. He trotted over towards the door with the big “Ellen’s room, do not enter!” sign on it. The lights were off! He tiptoed into the room, and saw that Ellenor was still sleeping! Then he looked down at his watch: 7:26, the bus would be here to pick him and Ellen up to bring them to the middle school in 9 minutes! Noah tiptoed out of the room, he came back only moments later with a large glass of water. He snuck over to Ellen’s bed, and poured the water over her face.

“AHHHH!” Ellenor shot up out of bed. She saw her brother standing above her, looking mischievous. “You are so immature! Ugh, I can’t believe you!”

“Hahaha!” Noah began to head towards the door, “Oh and you might want to start getting ready for school.” Noah smirked and walked out of the room like he was the coolest kid alive.

Ellen glanced at the clock on her nightstand, 7:29, “ohhh no… oh no. This… this is not happening, okay that can’t be right!” She rushed out of her bed and into the bathroom, she looked at the clock there, 7:29. “Shoot!” Ellen turned on the shower, the water was freezing cold, but she got in anyways. In three minutes she was out. The bus would be here in only three more minutes. Ellen put her hair up in a towel, and ran to go and get dressed, it took her only one and a half minutes. She went back to the bathroom, brushed her teeth, and took her hair out of the towel, and was about to brush it, when she glanced in the mirror. “What?” she looked closer, wiped the fogged mirror with her sleeve. What Ellen saw in the mirror made her forget about getting ready for school or catching the bus. “What the heck?! Oh my gosh!” Ellen touched her hair and looked closer in the mirror. Her hair which was before blonde, was dark purple. “Ahhhhh!” Ellenor screamed, she was so startled she just started to cry. “My hair!!! What?” She stopped to think. “How did this even happen?” She looked in the shower, and saw her shampoo, it looked darker than normal. She was rushing so much, that she didn’t even notice. It looked as though hair dye had been poured into it. All of the sudden Ellen was filled with anger. “Who… who would do this to me?” She thought angrily, “And why?”

Ellenor ran downstairs, she walked towards the kitchen where her whole family was running around crazy trying to get ready for the day. She walked into the room, Everyone stopped what they were doing and the space became silent. Her mom, Debra, gave a little high pitched squeal of surprize. Her sister started at her with her mouth dropped wide open in disbelief. Her brother snickered loudly, and her dad just stood there dumbfounded, trying to make sense of everything.

“Who did this to me!?” Ellen said impatiently. “Tell me now! Who did this to me?” Her whole family just stared at her. “I didn’t do it,” they all pleaded. “Ugh!” She cried, well then how did this happen? She pointed to her hair. “Mom, are you sure you didn’t put something in my shampoo on accident, we all know how scattery you can be, you couldn’t have maybe done in on accident?”

Debra shook her head, “there’s no way, I’m sorry sweety.”

“Or Selena, did you do it? Did you do it to get back at me for wearing and accidentally ruining your favorite shirt? If so, I’m so sorry, I won’t be mad, I just want to know who it was! Ellenor was desperate for an answer.

“Sorry El, I swear, I didn’t do it. I would never do such an awful thing to you! Besides I already told you 100 times, I forgave you for that.

Ellenor started to cry again at the overwhelming experience.

Noah looked over at the clock, “Are you kidding me!! It’s 7:38! We missed the bus!”

“Good! I won’t have to go to school like this!” Ellenor breathed a sigh of relief.

“Oh no, you two are going to school! “Just like Selena, she will drive herself to the high school, and I will drive you guys to the middle school, and go in late for work” Debra grabbed the car keys.

“No, no, no, no! I can not go to school looking like this!” Ellen pleaded.

“Go grab a baseball cap, we’ll figure it out when you get home from school,” Debra said, “you’re going to be late!”

Three minutes later Ellen and Noah were on their way to school.

By the end of the day Ellen had had 5 million people come up to her and ask her what is up with her hair. Ellen was an introvert by far so by the end of the day she was especially exhausted and she sick of everyone.

“Woah!” Zoey, Ellen’s best friend, said when she first saw her. “Ha..ha, ummm… what happened? I always told you that you’d look good with dark hair, but I didn’t mean like that!” Zoey sounded a little bit shaky and her face got bright red.

“I know that you are trying to make the situation funny and light hearted, but your face says it all, It looks awful!

“No that’s not why.” Zoey took a deep breath and was going to say more but Ellen cut her off before she could continue.

“I know! It looks horrible! I didn’t try to do it, but someone put hair dye in my shampoo this morning! I didn’t notice it until it had been in my hair for a while! I don’t know what to do about it!” Ellen was so emotionally drained that she just collapsed onto her best friend’s arms.

“Oh.. umm… well.”  Zoey thought for a moment “Don’t worry! I am still coming over to your house tonight right? We can take care of it then! I think that my mom has this stuff that takes dye like that out. I’ll bring it!”

“You’re a life saver!” Ellen hugged Zoey tighter.

The day was much better after that. Ellen could not wait until that night, she was going to have Zoey over! And her brother, Noah, was having his best friend over. They would have a lot of fun, after they got this dye out of her hair of course. Noah’s best friend was Zack, he was just as loud and immature as Noah was. They both loved to play pranks.

“Wait a second… that’s it!” Ellen figured it out! “It must have been her brother! He probably just put some purple food coloring in her shampoo, as a prank!” She was so excited! It wasn’t hair dye after all, it would come out if she washed it! Ellenor was so excited to get home, relieved that she had figured out the solution but also very mad at her brother.

Ellen found Zoey after school. “Hey! You all packed up and ready to go to my house?”

“Yeah!” Zoey walked over to Ellen.

“Oh and I know what happened to make my my hair like this!” Ellen said excitedly.

“Y… you do?” Zoey said nervously and stuck her hands in her pockets.

“Yeah! It must have just been Noah pulling another lame prank on me! He really got me this time! I thought that it was hair dye by the look of it, but he must have just put some food coloring in it! I bet once I get home, I can just wash it out!” Ellen was so relieved.

“That’s so awesome! I was starting to get really worried!” Zoey sounded a bit more relaxed, but kept her hands in her pockets.

When Ellen got home she took a shower, but as Zoey knew it would, Ellen’s hair stayed purple. “Why? I don’t understand? It should come out!?” Ellen sobbed.

Zoey grabbed her friends hand, “It’s not the end of the world is it, look at the bright side, it could be worse, like Neon pink or something.”

“Yeah I guess you’re right.” Ellenore gave up.

But then she happened to glance down. Ellen looked at Zoey’s hand. “Oh no!” she thought. “This can’t be right!” Ellen held up Zoey’s hand and Zoey tried to pull back.

“It’s not what it looks like!” Zoey’s heart was racing. “I swear!”

But the evidence was too strong, Ellen had figured it out.

“Well then what is it? Because to me it looks like you have purple dye all over your fingers! How could you Zoey?” Ellen backed away from her best friend, or at least the person she used to think was her best friend, but now she wasn’t so sure.

“Well it was sort of an accident.”

“You’d better start explaining!”

“Okay, So, remember last week when I was at your house for your birthday party sleepover?” Zoey started.

“Yeah.”

“Remember how your brother and his friend thought that it would be funny if they put food coloring on my tooth brush? Zoey was talking through tears now.

“Haha, yup” Ellenor slightly laughed at the memory.

“Hey, that was not funny! You guys all thought it was, but my teeth were blue for a week… The week that school pictures were! I was so mad!” Zoey took deep breaths and told herself to calm down. “I needed to get back at your brother in some way. So, you know how last night when I had to come over to your house and exchange laptops with you. Cause I took your laptop home from school instead of mine. Well… that was on purpose. Sorry, I needed an excuse to get over to your house. Then, all that I had to do is say I had to go to the bathroom. But, I didn’t really, I actually just went in there and put the hair dye in his shampoo.

“Or you thought it was his shampoo,” Ellen said finally beginning to understand the mess.

“Right, so I put it in the bottle, but I had to be so quick that I must have accidentally put it in yours. I’m so sorry!!!” I never meant to do this to you! I didn’t think it would cause this much damage or hurt anyone, it was just supposed to be a harmless practical joke! I swear!” Zoey was in tears again.

“So…” Ellen sat down, “Let me get this straight, you never actually meant for my hair to turn purple, just my brother’s?”

“Yeah… Now that I think about it, I was so caught up in getting revenge, I didn’t think about all of the things that could go wrong. Or that what I was doing WAS wrong, and would not solve anything!”

You should have just told me! Why didn’t you just come clean when you first saw me?” Ellen asked.

“I guess I was just afraid that you wouldn’t forgive me. I don’t know why but I thought that if I just pretended it wasn’t me than it would just go away.”  Zoey confessed. “I’m so sorry, I just couldn’t handle losing you as a friend! I know you have no reason to, but will you please forgive me?”

Ellen thought for a moment “Of Course.” She smiled widely.

“Oh thank goodness! I was so worried that I was going to lose you over something so stupid like this!” Zoey was so relieved. “I never would have forgiven myself!”

“Don’t worry, you’re never going to lose me!” The girls hugged. “Hahaha, so how long is this stuff supposed to last?” Ellenor asked Sarcastically.

“Ummm…” Zoey teased. “You don’t want to know…”

Ellenor and Zoey laughed and hugged again, very glad that the whole thing was over.

The Stoning of Stephen0

The twelve disciples recently decided to pick seven more people that were full of wisdom. Stephen was one of them. In the past couple of days, Stephen performed so many great wonders and signs to the people. He was full with the Holy Spirit. But, many of the members of the Synagogue did not like this. Many people started to argue with Stephen, but they couldn’t stand up against Stephen’s wisdom, given to him by the Holy Spirit. Some men meant together and convinced others that Stephen was speaking blasphemy against God and Moses. This stirred up the Elders and the teachers of the Law. They found Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. They began to question him. When they looked at him they saw that his face was glowing like the face of an angel! The high priest asked Stephen, “Are these charges are true?” Stephen replied with a story about the Israelites. He talks about when God sent moses to set them free from the hands of the Egyptians. The Israelites did not obey God, they doubted him. So He made them wander in the desert for 40 years. Stephen said that the people there were just like their ancestors and that they do not trust in the Lord. They resist the Holy Spirit, he told them. The people were so mad at him! They did not want to hear this!

Stephen looked up at the sky, “Look, I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God” When people heard this, they covered their ears and Screamed as loud as they could! They dragged poor Stephen out of the City and started to throw large rocks at him! They’re intentions were to do this until he fell over and died! Even as Stephen was dying, He continued to preach, “Lord,” he said “Do not hold this sin against them.” After he said this he died.

This is such a tragic story! Stephen was doing good for the Lord, and he was killed for it. Stephen was believed to be the first one Martyred for Christ. Stephen was a great example of what we as Christians should be like. He was willing to give up his life for Christ. He told others about his faith, many came to God through him. He was willing to do anything for God, It’s amazing! He was such a great disciple! We should follow Stephens example, and give everything up for the Lord.

The Holy Spirit0

The Holy Spirit is a spirit that lives within me, and all other people that have excepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. He gives us discernment, tells us what is right and wrong. He gives us strength to continue on even when life gets rough. He stays with us as long as we live and will forever help and guide us. He is everywhere! We can’t hide from him, He sees all and knows all. The Holy Spirit can do all things, He can do everything, and everything He does is through God.

The Holy spirit is such an amazing gift that God has given us! He does so many things in my life. We need to share God’s awesome gift to us, with others! He helps me make the right decision, when it is hard to know what do to. He gives me joy. The Holy Spirit brings me all of the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control. He keeps me safe and comforted. He will never leave my side!

Math0

Something that I have learned this year in math is how to figure out the length of a slanted line by turning it into a triangle. If there are two points and you need to find the distance between them, you can could count how many it rises (A) and then how many it runs to one side (B). then you make A and B to the second power (²). A² plus B², equals C². So first you have to figure out what A and B are to the second power, than you can add the them. Now, you have a certain number that equals C². In order to get it out of the second power (²), you have to find the square root of that number. Than that is your answer.

You can use this in real life for many things. It is helpful to find the diagonal of any square or triangle. If you are trying to find the across length of a TV or some other kind of electronic (Laptop screen, Phone screen, etc.) When buying any of these items you may want to know the diagonal length. Another example would be if you are getting a picture frame, poster, etc, you might need to know it so that you know for sure if it will fit in the spot on the wall you want it to. It is just a really great thing to know, that I will probably use frequently in real life.

Bowling Reflection0

Yesterday afternoon we, as an eighth grade class went bowling. It was a lot of fun. There were a whole bunch of parents that drove us to the ally. Once we got there, we were split into groups of 4, and were assigned a lane for our group. Then we began to bowl. We bowled for a long time, we each played two games. The first game was a serious, normal one, and the next one was silly. We made pyramids and bowled of of them, we made tunnels, and routs. We did it backwards, spun around until we were dizzy than through it, and we bowled with our opposite hand. It was a super fun experience.

Jesus’ Crucifixion0

During the last week or two we have been talking about the seven last words or phrases of Jesus. Each of these things that he said tell us things that we need to do, or that will help us in our lives. The seven things that he said were:

1. “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.” (Luke 23:34)

2. “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

3. “Dear woman, here is your son, Here is your mother” (John 19:26-27)

4. “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” (Mark 15:34)

5. “I am thirsty.” (John 19:28)

6. “It is finished” (John 19:30)

7. “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” (Luke 23:46)

Each of these things teach us a lot about Jesus and a lot about what we are suppose to do as Christians. As a class, we figured out what each of these things taught us. Then we went around the room. There were seven posters hung up and on each of them, was one of the seven things. We walked around and wrote things that we could do to show these things on them. This was a really cool thing to do and it really showed us what each of these seven things meant.
