God at Work

One thing from Pauls past that prepared him for his ministry was that he was trained to be a Pharisee so he knew scripture and it made it easier for him to preach. Another thing is that he had Roman citizenship so that he could preach in Rome and not be taken to jail or be persecuted.

One way he might e using me is how my family adopted my brother J.D. from Ethiopia. This made me learn to wait for things.

PBL

My group got assigned to learn about persecution in Afghanistan. One thing that we did was put an underground church behind our table for people to come to see and get somewhat of an idea of what underground churches are like. We also put a few stories of a couple of Christians in Afghanistan on the computers. We also put a poster about general information about Afghanistan and one poster about how you could help. I learned that especially in Afghanistan Christian persecution is a very serious thing and something that we should be very glad that we don’t have to worry about.

Chain Breakers 2.0

I think that the string will work best because it won’t stretch out and it will stay strong.

I think that the main problem would be is the rubber bands because it is very stretchy and it might make our chain come down.

We didn’t use the wooden stick because we weren’t quite sure how to use it for the chain

Beginning of year Reflection

One thing that I have enjoyed so far this year is Social Studies, I enjoy how Queen Roskamp brings us on adventures and to the New Land. One thing that I have learned is that this guy named Alfred Wegener came up with the idea that all of the continents were once one Land called Pangaea. I am looking forward to being the oldest in the school and being a good leader to everyone else. Over all I think that 8th grade is going to be a good year and I think that I will have lots of fun with friends.

Boat Races

For our boat we decided to make the front of it more of a triangle to make the boat so it might go a bit faster. We also decided to put straws on each side to help if float but then the ones on the sides made it to wide for the track, so we just kept the ones on the front end point. We wanted to get the sail to be straight but the rubber band was to short so we made it a curved sail which could make it a bit faster. We made the base of the boat styrofoam so that will help the boat float better.

What did I do this Summer?

One of the things that I did this summer is I swam in my pool quite a bit this summer. I think that I spent more time in my pool this summer than I have any other summer. I also hung out with quite a bit of my friends, but not as much as last summer in my opinion. I went to a seven day bible camp on Portage Lake with my cousin. I had a lot of fun with my cousin and I don’t see him much at all throughout the rest of the year. I also went to a camp that the Vanderveens ran. I also went to some basketball shoot arounds that Mr. Cannon ran. I went to my dads soccer camp and helped on the younger aged groups. I also went to a cottage for a few days that my Grandparents rented for a week. Of course I also played quite a bit of Fortnite over the summer.

Invictus

I saw reconciliation in the movie Invictus when the rugby team came over to the black community to play and teach them rugby, and I think that that is how it was supposed to be. One group of people that I thought changed was the group of black people who at the start of the movie cheered for the team that was playing against South Africa but in the end, they cheered for South Africa.

Idea of Africa

I used to think that Africa was a dry place where poorer people lived and where desert animals lived. But now that I have an idea about what Africa is I know that it rains there quite a bit and it isn’t as dry as you think in some places there. I learned that some groups of people have life way easier than other groups of people.

Conflict and Doubt

What I learned about Conflict and doubt is that asking questions to God is good, because God is happy to help us with our questions and God would love to give us answers in lots of different ways. I also think that we need to share our questions with other people because they can also help us with what we are wondering about. My visual is a picture of Jesus standing next to a little question mark. I chose this as my visual because I believe that Jesus is much bigger than our questions and doubts. My personal reflection on conflict and doubt was that God is bigger than our questions and we can come to him whenever we have a question or are doubting God. I also think that doubt is something that happens to everyone and we don’t have to be afraid to ask our friends and family questions that we have because they probably have a question too.

Covenant

What I learned about covenants is that there are two different kinds of covenants one is called the unconditional covenant which is a covenant that says that you will do something no matter what, Jesus will love us no matter what. The other kind is called the conditional covenant which is a covenant that says you will do this IF you do this. My visual is a picture of a heart surrounding a cross. I chose this because that is my example of an unconditional covenant, that God will love us no matter what. My personal reflection on Covenant is that God says that we will all know him one day. God’s love is unconditional but some of our love is conditional because if someone does something that their friend doesn’t like and continues to do that, then they might not want to be friends anymore.

Call

What I learned about call is that God calls everyone to do lots of different things. Like in the Bible God called Abraham to sacrifice his only son, and of course, Abraham would never want to do that, but he trusted God and did what he said and before Abraham sacrificed his son, God told him to stop and He provided a lamb for them to sacrifice. My visual is of someone giving to someone who didn’t have much money. I chose this as my visual because, God calls us to give to the poor, and like Abraham, we don’t always want to do what God calls us to do but if we trust God and do what he wants we will be rewarded by God in different ways. My personal reflection on call is that God calls us to do lots of things, and he could call us to do great things, or he could call us to do small things. As simple as some of those things are, they could change someone’s life.

Salute to a King

What I learned about salute to a king is that there are two different kinds of kings, one is called a Nagid, a Nagid is a king that is chosen by God, and is a good leader. The other is called a Melek, a Melek is a ruler that is motivated by power. My visual is how a leader will treat you vs. how a ruler will treat you. I think that my visual fits with the topic because God chooses a good leader that will help you and trust God throughout the whole time, other than a ruler chosen by the people of Israel, who wants fame and power. My personal reflection is that we need to want what God wants and trust that he will provide good things for us. We can want what God wants easier if we don’t want stuff that we don’t need and just know that God knows what is good for us.

Symbol of a Lamp

What I learned about symbol of a lamp is that God makes a covenant with David that says “I(God) will make your(Davids) name great like the names of the greatest men. I will provide a place for all Israelites to stay, I will give you rest from your enemies.” I also learned that God is our ever-burning lamp. My visual is a flashlight. I chose a flashlight because when we can’t see in the dark or can’t find our way out of a dark room, we can use a flashlight to help find our way out. Just like how when we can’t see in the chaos or can’t find our way out of a world full of sin we need to ask for help from Jesus to help us find our way out.

Something is Rotten

What I learned about something is rotten is that the Israelites worshiped other gods and turned away from God many times. The Israelites wanted power and popularity to be better than other tribes or countries and have them back down to them. My visual is someone skydiving. I chose that as my visual because people are always trying to do crazy things just for attention and popularity. We need to act how God wants us to act because God has a much greater gift then popularity and fame. My personal reflection is that God wants us to act like him and not worry about having fame or being popular because you are exactly how God wants you to be.

Slide to Destruction

What I learned about slide to destruction is that the Israelites made poor decisions that lead them into exile. I also learned that God doesn’t want us to go into exile but he wants to draw us closer to Him. My visual is of someone yelling to someone else. I chose that as my visual because what we say can hurt others, and sometimes once we say it we feel bad about it. So what we say can hurt others and us. My personal reflection is that if we act how God wants us to we will be rewarded with happiness. Think about what you are doing and look at the consequences of going against God.

A Savior

What I learned about a savior is that we need Jesus, and we need to wait for him when we don’t feel him in our lives. I learned that Jesus will always come and Jesus never wants us to be alone. My visual is of the word sacrifice. I chose that as my visual because Jesus wants to end all the bad things so he sacrificed himself so that there would be nothing to worry about in life. My visual reminds me that Jesus is our Savior and saved us from all the bad things that we have done. My personal reflection is that we all need to work on not judging, not assuming things about people that we don’t know or even people we do know. We need to know that everyone matters and God has a plan for them, and we need to love people how they are.

Living on a Dollar a Day

I realized how hard it is to have no money almost all the time where you can buy little things and don’t have enough to feed your children or family. One thing I noticed is that the students that traveled there seemed to be doing worse that the people that had lived there for there whole life, I think that they were doing worse because they weren’t used to it, like everyone that had lived there for a long time was used to it.
