I think that the colonist went through a identity crises because they just got done with becoming a free country and they have to worry about all of these things the to a new county would have to go through. For an example:  they had to create there own money and how much it valued  and who would be there leder and government. They also had to go through a lot more. In conclusion the colonist did have a reason to be going through a identity crises and it was just about the end of the world for them.
