Dear parents,
Happy Thanksgiving week! I pray that each family is able to have a blessed and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday with family and those you love.
This blog covers this short, two-day week as well as the following week.
I’m part of school’s PBIS team. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Our team is learning how to build positive environment in school. At the same time, we are designing plans to build positive environment at ZCS. We have a series of professional training sessions. I had attended two whole-day professional trainings in this year’s September and October. (This is the reason why I have had so many PD days.) This Tuesday I will have another PBIS PD day. Lynn TenHarmsel who is a native Mandarin speaker will cover for me. Also, I have two other PBIS PD days coming in spring as well.
I appreciate your prayers last week. It carries both the students and me. Please continue to keep us in prayer!

Your child will need a shoe box sized box before Christmas to transport a fragile object.
His Harvest Stand
In this time of giving, ZCS is going to bless His Harvest Stand, a local food pantry, with cereal and peanut butter. Encourage your child to choose a favorite box of cereal or jar of peanut butter at the store, and bring it to school by Tuesday, Nov. 26. A table will be set up in the front hallway for dropoff or have your child bring it to their classroom. Please help us fill the shelves of His Harvest Stand! Thank you for blessing others in our community!

Mandarin High Frequency Words to Produce and to recognize:
Students will learn a new set of words for these two weeks. I will send out homework sheets on this coming Monday. There will be a test on next Friday (Dec. 6) for words to produce and to recognize.
Here is this week’s quizlet for flashcard words. The last two words are only for 3rd graders. If 2nd graders are interested, go ahead and give it a try. https://quizlet.com/_7j1b0m?x=1qqt&i=2eu679
Please see below to find how to use this quizlet.
How to use the quizlet? Don’t use the flashcards on the top. Instead, go under and go to the “Terms in the set”. For each word, your kid should first say out the pronunciation and think of its meaning by him/herself. Then, click the sound button on the right. It will read the word in Chinese and the English definition. I want to make this available to everyone. So if somehow you cannot access the feature that I’ve mentioned, please let me know.
Pinyin:
Able to recognize “g”, “ou”, “ao”
Grammar:
- Words or phrases describing nouns are adjectives. These describing words come after the noun when we leave out the verb and use 很
- Deduplicating adjectives within a sentence can either make the sentence sound more personal or make the description more precise.
- Use 最 followed by words/phrases describing nouns to demonstrate the best, most, or least.
Bible:
Unit 5: Abraham
- God calls Abram
- God’s Promises to Abram
- Abram and Sarai in Egypt
During our devotion time, we are learning a new song called How Awesome You Are 主你真伟大. Here is a link to this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4FDL1eMI_8
