Volcano project

For this project my group and I created a volcano that had 10 parts of a volcano included. We created a quiet, composite volcano. It included a crater, and pipe. A hot spring, and a magma chamber. Along with a side vent and pyroclastic flow. We also have lave flow and lava. We erupted our volcano with backing soda and vinegar in class. Photo on 4-29-16 at 11.10 AM

God’s preperation

I am sure that God is preparing me for something, even if I am not fully sure what it is yet. Since my family has adopted my little sister and also since I had recently gone to Africa to spend time with the children there, I would like to go into some kind of ministry with kids and orphans. Weather that is going back to Beautiful Gate or some other place in the world, or if it is just adoption and fostering. I want to do something for the orphans, and widows. Beautiful gate was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I always say that I miss it and that I am going back, and it is true I really want to go back. I loved it there. When I was with the children and the widows not only at beautiful gate but in the community also, I was bringing glory to God. I loved the people and the country so much, I didn’t want to leave. Everyone there is so kind and welcoming, they don’t complain even thought to us it looks like they should have a lot to complain about. I think that this trip was God’s way of preparing me for a mission with kids and widows in the world.

Christian Persecution

My group is studying Christian Persecution in Uzbekistan. We have learned that Uzbekistan is a islamic country so people who are Christians are being persecuted and are in danger.

Health and fitness

Sleep

Question: Why do we save calories when we sleep.

interesting: 31% of people fall asleep at the wheel once in their life.

Learn: If you live to be 90 years old, 32 years of your life will be spent sleeping.

Spagetti tower

What went well was our tower stood up on its own. Even if the egg fell, the tower still stayed in tact. Our egg fell and the tower was not tall enough. My favorite part was working with Nicole, and Avery. Even though we failed and disagreed it was fun to work with friends. My least favorite part was having to spend a certain amount of money. I will that it could just be a free for all of how much supplies you get.

The mystery of the locker room murder

The mystery of the locker room murder

It was an ordinary day at Zeeland Christian for most, but for Leah Cooper it was going to be her last day alive. After school one day Abby, Leah, Avery, Elle, and Nycole went to the Locker room after school because Avery had to grab her gym bag, and everyone else thought that they would go with. While they were in there they were just hanging out and talking. Then in a flash the lights turned out. A couple of the girls screamed, others stayed calm. Some of the girls thought that it was funny to scare the other girls, it kinda turned into a game. The girls who weren’t afraid of the dark were wondering around and jumping out at the others. It was fun for a while. Every once and awhile someone would flicker the lights to make it scarier. This went on for a little bit until it started to get boring. Nycole turned on the lights so Avery could grab her bag and we could leave. But what no one was expecting was to see when the lights went on was Leah lying dead by the showers. There was no blood and no screams, just leah lying there. The girls panicked. They started to wonder how she dies. They saw red marks on her throat, she was strangled to death. The girls looked around questioning who killed leah. Nycole looked straight at Avery. Avery and Leah were arguing in a group chat a couple of nights before. All the other girls in the chat thought that it was all a joke and that they were not really mad at eachother. But maybe they were wrong. Nycole began asking Avery questions like, why were you both fighting? Was it really a joke? Did you kill her? Avery was telling back at Nycole saying that she didn’t do it, but Nycole didn’t believe her. While the two of them were fighting Elle walked over to the dead body, next to her she saw something shiny under Leah’s neck. She picked it up and it was a bracelet. Avery’s bracelet. She showed the other girls what she found. “I knew it, it was Avery!” claimed Nycole. “I was framed!” yelled Avery. As she said this she pulled out her bracelet out of her backpack. “See” Avery said. “This is my bracelet, that must be someone else’s.” she explained. “Well who else has that bracelet?” asked Elle. “Nycole!” yelled Abby. “It was Nycole, she has the same bracelet.” “Why would I kill Leah?” Asked Nycole. “Because she stole your Sweatshirt! You were just telling me how mad you were the other day.” Explained Abby. “ I would never kill anyone!” yelled Nycole. After a while everyone stopped fighting. They started to think. But no one could think of anyone else. So they decided to leave it a mystery and let the police figure it out.

A little while later the police came and looked around. What they found was fingerprints. Abby’s fingerprints. The police decided that they would search abby’s backpack to see if they could find any evidence. Abby was dumb enough to put “kill Leah” on her to do list. They knew it was Abby.

The police went to the girls who were in the locker room and asked them why abby would want to kill Leah. None of them could answer. Until Chloe marched in the room and said that the reason Abby wanted to kill leah was that she could have Peter all to herself and Leah wouldn’t get in the way.

Why is it important that we study christian persecution?

Why is it important that we study christian persecution?

I think that it is important that we educate ourselves about this because we are also christians and we should know about what is happening to other christians. We should also know about this because we should want to help these people who are being treated unfairly, in order to do that we should know about what exactly is happening and where. We should also study it so we know what and who to pray for.

Ideal church vs. Early church

In bible class we have been talking about our ideal church and the early church. our ideal church consisted of comfy chairs, candy, ice cream, ext. Mostly selfish things and possessions. Then we talked about the early church and how they are not selfish. They share everything so everyone is equal. no one has less or more than anyone. I think that we need to be more like the early church and be less selfish. We should give more to the poor so we are equal. Also the early church was together everyday, I think we should spend more time with God as a community.

pythagorean theorem project

Math reflection

Kaylee and I did a math project on the pythagorean theorem. We wanted to come up with a problem that wouldn’t be that hard to figure out of explain. We asked this.

“Julie took a trip to the mall. She drove 14 miles North from her house to the mall. After Julie left the mall she was hungry so she drove to Franks for a burger and some fries. She then drove 10 miles East from the mall to Frank’s restaurant. After she ate she drove South West back home. How many miles is it from the restaurant to get back home?”

This problem is set up like a right triangle. The formula is A squared plus B squared equals C squared. You have to place 14 miles in for A squared. Put 10 miles in for B squared. Then you have to square both of those numbers. The goal is to find C. Then after you square those two numbers then you add them together. After you get that sum you find the square root of that. The answer is c= 17.20as

Jesus crucifixion

God said seven things before he died and was crucified. What I learned form this was that you need to give hope to the hopeless through little things in your day. We need to feel  for other people when they are hurting. We need to Trust in God all the time and always remember that God is in control of your life everyday. We need to have compassion on others and care for them and their needs, whatever they may be. We need to preserver to compete that goals that God has set for us.

God sightings

This weekend I was God in the sunset. I went hunting with my dad this weekend and when we were sitting in the tree stand I was bored so I watched the sunset. I was amazed at how fast the sun goes down when you just stare at it behind the trees.

Thematic essay

The book I chose is “The Hunger Games.” The book “The Hunger Games” was written by Suzanne Collins. “The Hunger Games” is a book about twelve districts that are very poor. They struggle to have a good home and feed their families. The capital is in charge of all the districts and to show their power every year they have a reaping in each of the districts. They call out one name of a boy and one of a girl from ages twelve through thirteen. They take the  kids to the capital where they train to go into the hunger games arena. In the arena the kids from all the districts fight to the death until there is only one left. The games are shown on tv and everyone watches it like a game show. “The Hunger Games” is a great book about determination and bravery of a young girl who cares for the freedom of her people.

One theme in the book is bravery. When Katniss goes to the reaping for her last year because that was the year was eighteen, her younger sister goes for her first time. They are both very nervous and scared that they might get picked to go into the hunger games. At the reaping Katniss sister Primrose is crying a lot and Katniss does a great job of hiding her fear to comfort her sister. At the reaping they line up all the kids in order of their age so Katniss and Primrose are at very far apart from each other and that makes Primrose much more nervous. They first call out the girl’s name and Effie Trinket, the woman who picks and call the names, calls out for Primrose Everdeen. But instead her sister Katniss volunteers as tribute for her sister. That shows bravery because she now has to survive in the place where the people in the districts fear the most and fight to the death in an epic battle instead of her sister.

Katniss’s strength is another in the book. While she is in training at the Capitol with her male partner from her district, Peeta Mellark, she shows off her strength to the capitol and her other competitors. She gets scored highest over all the other twenty-three kids from other districts for her very accurate aim with the bow and arrow. She can get a perfect shot every time. Another way that she shows her strength is that she never cries. She keeps herself together at all times and is very calm in the situation. Even though she is scared she is making herself look tough by not showing her emotions.

Another theme in the book is friendship. While they are in the arena Katniss makes friends with a girl her sister’s age named Rue. They stick together throughout the whole game and help each other set up traps to sabotage the other group of competitors that have formed an alliance. Katniss was friends with her because she reminded her of her sister and she felt a need to protect her. They stuck together throughout the game until Rue died with a sphere to her heart. Katniss was really sad after this happened and placed many flowers around her and did the rebellion sign to the camera which is taking the three middle fingers on your left hand and then pressing them against your lips and then hold them out to the people is is done towards. She did this to symbolize respect for Rue. This sparked an uprising in Rue’s district, district eleven.

“The Hunger Games” is a great book about determination and bravery of a young girl who cares for the freedom of her people. I like this book because it has a lot of action which is fun to watch. It also has many good things to it that we can learn from and apply to our lives. Even though we don’t have a hunger games where we have to fight to the death in a brutal arena. We still should have courage, bravery, strength, and fight for what is right. Nobody is ever in control of you and can force you to do things that are not safe. Katniss shows this well in the book. Also it is okay to have an opinion and to show others what you believe. If something isn’t right you should do what you have to do to make it right.

The carbon cycle

My partner and I had to do a project on the Carbon cycle. We did a drawing of the cycle and made a video explaining how the Carbon Cycle worked. Photo on 10-26-15 at 11.18 AM

Carbon dioxide is in the air and the gets absorbed into the trees. The trees use photosynthesis to change the Carbon dioxide into Oxogen. Then animals and humans breath in the Oxogen and then breath out Carbon Dioxide. Then the Carbon dioxide goes into the air again. Another way that Carbon Dioxide goes back into the air is the combustion in a fire place in a house. The fire burns and smoke goes out chimney and back into the air. Dead animals also release carbon dioxide. That goes back in to the air also.

God sightings

This weekend I saw God in others. A lot of people came over to out house this week and showed support to my family now that we have our new little sister.

Theme Reflection

Matthew 7:14-25

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

The 8th graders this year chose the theme verse for the whole school at leadership camp. I am excited to share the verse and the meaning of this theme with the school this year. Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world.

As an 8th grader I hope to show God’s love to everyone and to be and example to those who may look up to me. God is the foundation of our school. We built our school on him. Through all the troubles we have been through he will always be with us. He will keep us safe because we put him in control. I want to build my 8th grade year on God. I want him to be the foundation of all that I do weather it be in school, volleyball, small group, and in my relationships with others.

God is the foundation of my life and no one else. I want him to be in control. This verse will help throughout my life to be a reminder that God is my rock. I am sure that life will be hard after eighth grade but I know that I will get through it because I have the foundation of my life built on God. I know that God will always be with me this year, next and always and that I will not fall because he is with me. I will always keep this verse close to my heart and remember what he has done for me.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world. I am very glad I was able to be a part of choosing the theme this year. I think that is a great one and has a great meaning that is dear to all of our hearts.

New Addition

We saw the new addition today. It looks really new a very modern with new desks, chairs, and clear glass walls. The new lounge areas are really cool. The air conditioning is great when it is really hot. I love the new addition and I think that it is going to be a great year.

African Union Day

Yesterday the 7th grade had an African Union Day where we split into groups of two or three and were assigned a country. With the people in your group you had to decide what you wanted to do about the conflict in Burundi. We would come up with a resolution of what our country can do for them and then we would find other countries and talk with them about what they thought they should do. We would find another country that thought the same that you did and then we worked with that group to make another resolution together. We then debated with other countries on what we thought should be done.

In doing this project I learned how the African Union solves their problems only on a smaller scale. It was fun and I liked being able to debate what we thought would be best for the country of Burundi and the continent as a whole.

My favorite part of this was the debating and voting. But I wish that we could have been a little bit more prepared on how things were going to happen and what we need to know ahead of time so it wasn’t so confusing in the morning.

Invectives responce

Some relationships that changed throughout the movie was the relationship between Francios and Mandela. Their relationship changed after they met. They grew closer and grew to understand each other better. Another relationship that changed was the black and white body guards for Mandela. It was originally just black body guards but then Mandela hired white body guards and the blacks weren’t very excepting. Eventually the black body guards remembered that the goal was to keep Mandela safe and so they decided to look over the differences and work together.

This movie represents post apartheid by the way everyone is being more excepting to others. The blacks could vote and had more freedom. Also the relationships between the whites and the blacks were being strengthened. They were now considered a part of government. Although the spring Box remained the same after apartheid. Not everything was solved but you could see a difference.
