Bridge Day 5

Today we put our bridge on our bases and we are hoping it will hold the 30 pounds. I think it will the glue will just need to dry, which it will. So I think it has a good chance at surviving.

God at Work

God gave Paul many gifts before he even knew he was going to become a Christian. God gave me gifts and he will use me in many way like he did with Paul even though I don’t know what he will do with me. One of my gifts is I speak silently, my actions show more than my words and when people notice that things can happen and eventually God will use me with that. Another one is that I am athletic, I play all kinds of sports but I can also in that time I can speak silently through that while I am playing the sport. Another gift is I am outgoing/social, I can use this to get to know more people even if they arn’t Christians, I can become friends with people and eventually if the time is ready I can start talking about my faith and tell them about what it means to me and you never know they might want to start a faith in God too. God has put me in a good friend group that has started a bible study and we can do many things through that.

Christian Persecution
“Fear and faith cannot exist within my heart at the same time. When we live by faith, trusting the Lord moment by moment, fear has no room in the heart.” This is a quote from John Short, a Christian detained in North Korea. Christian persecution has been going on for thousands of years. Roman emperors were the first to persecute Christians, one of the cruelest was Nero. Today, North Korea is the worst country to live in if you are a Christian, they are doing everything to get the religion of Christianity out of their country. We can help with these people that are being persecuted for their faith. Christians have been persecuted every day for the past two thousand years, and right now North Korea is #1 on the World Watch List (a list that tracks and rates where Christian persecution is worst in the world), but we can help these Christians by doing some simple things.
Nero, the Roman’s cruelest emperor, killed thousands of Christians in his time. He wanted to kill the Christians because many people heard about Jesus and they grew interested in him and they wanted to know more, but Nero wanted them to pay attention to him not Jesus. So he tried to make Christians go away but instead he grew the population. Nero set a city on fire and blamed it on the Christians, the Christians that were arrested were killed. Nero would have night parties and would hang the Christians on crosses and set them on fire for illumination for his parties. He constantly wanted attention, during his parties he would ride on his chariot naked. Nero was an evil man, but since he was the emperor no one could stop him from doing these things to the Christians. Roman emperors wanted to persecute Christians because they wanted themselves to be worshiped and not God. Emperors were all about themselves not others.
North Korea has been #1 on the World Watch List for the past 14 years. Kim Jong-un is North Korea’s supreme leader. He is totally against Christianity. He wants everyone worshiping him, just like the Roman emperors, and if they get caught they will be arrested, imprisoned, and later killed. It is illegal for you to be a Christian in North Korea. Christians who live there are in a dangerous situation, they can’t tell their spouses or children about their faith, nor can they pray with their eyes closed. Christians who do try to escape from North Korea have to give up everything, they risk their lives. Like one person named Ae-cha, her husband had already been killed for his faith and she decided to flee. She made it to the border on an icy cold night. A iced over river was between her and her freedom. She decided to cross but she fell in and less than a minute later she passed out. Suddenly, she woke up with a jolt and miraculously found herself on the other side! Freedom! She was one of 300,000-500,000 Christians living in North Korea. We don’t know exactly how many Christians are there because North Korea is such a restricted country they have very little information coming in or out of it. Another story is about John Short, an Australian missionary. In 2014, he went to tour Pyongyang, a city in North Korea, to spread the word of Christ. The next day after police came to his room to question him about what he was doing in North Korea, they arrested him in and put him in prison. He was very recently released on March 3, 2017.
There are many ways people are helping with Christian persecution in North Korea. People will put Bibles inside balloons, attach a GPS and direct where to land the balloon for the right people to grab it and hide them. Another way is that people smuggle Bibles into the country through trucks with tarps over them. People are constantly giving food, medicine, clothes, and Bibles. Missionaries are going on “vacations” to North Korea, but instead they go to underground churches and preach about Jesus while they are there. People are risking their lives to spread the word of God.
Christians have been persecuted every day for the past two thousand years, and right now North Korea is #1 on the World Watch List, but we can help these Christians by doing some simple things. We can give food, medicine, Bibles, and clothes to the places that will distribute these things to the people who are being persecuted and need these things. We can visit the website www.opendoorsusa.org and they will tell you more ways to help there. We can send letters of encouragement to those who need it. We can also donate money and the right people will put it toward the right places. One of the biggest ways to help is to pray. Praying to God is a powerful way for us to communicate our longings for persecution to end to God. God hears us and we have to trust God’s sovereign ways.

Mystery Story

The Night of the Manslaughter
One lovely night in the town of Holland, Michigan. Dante, a short and sly man, went to a movie with his friend Niki. She is almost as short as Dante, he is 5’2. He has dark hair and he puts gel in it. Niki is a cute girl, she’s always polite and very interest in Dante’s friend Andrew. But Dante and Niki were together. Andrew knew that Niki had an eye on him but so did he on her. After the movie, Dante drove Niki back to her house and decided to meet up Andrew, Andrew is a cool, chill guy.
Andrew and Dante went downtown Holland. Dante went into peachwave to get some ice cream, as Andrew went into big e’s to order a steak. As he was eating he realized he might of needed a knife to cut his steak, so he asked his waitress to go grab a knife for him. While he was waiting, he saw Dante walk in. He waved him over and said to sit down. The waitress came back with the knife and asked if Dante wanted anything, he said he was fine. Andrew finished his steak and said to Dante “do you want to go to the library” as he wiped his face with his napkin. Which was occasional for Andrew to ask, because he always reads. So Dante said yes because he thought they were going to find a video game to play for that night.
So they drove over there and went in. They saw Niki there with her brother Wayne. The first thing Dante thinks of Wayne is his criminal record, he has stolen 3 cars and has murder 4 people but yet he only went to jail for 5 years. He also carries a knife in his boots and a gun in his holster around his waist. Andrew ran into the hall of books as Dante stood there staring at the beast. Wayne was about 6’8 and about 300 pounds of muscle. While Andrew was running he saw his friend Owen standing there with a knife in his hand, he starts running after Andrew. Andrew turns around and says what are you doing Owen said he was running after the chicken he was going to eat and as he sprints down the next hall after the actual chicken.
Ten minutes later in utter silence. There was a loud scream and then a thump on the ground. The librarian calls the police. The police surrounded the building and sent in the fbi squad. They find Dante dead in the video game section and five other people in the building but none of them claim to have killed Dante.
They call in Detective Juan. He is an expert at what he does, but sometimes he gets a little distracted. He arrives first thing in the morning. He has found more than 1,000 culprits in his time of investigating. He first said to round up the suspects. He first talks to Wayne he says he was in the movie section looking for the Harry Potter Book Series. Detective Juan asks “Can i see your knife?”
Wayne says “sure” Detective Juan found blood slats all over the knife but it was dried. Then he calls for Niki, he asked a few simple questions and let her go. Then he called over Andrew and asked “Why did you come to the library with Dante?”
Andrew replied “We were looking for a video game to play tonight.”
Detective Juan questioned him a couple more times about where he was in the building and then he asked if he could check if he had any weapons on him. So he checked and he didn’t have anything but a bloody napkin. Detective Juan asked “Why is this bloody?”
Andrew replied “I had a bloody nose.”
Detective Juan said “Oh, ok, Is that assassination killation you have in your hand, that is my favorite video game!”
Andrew replied “Yeah me too, I’m just getting it to play tonight.”
Then detective Juan calls over Owen. He asks “why did you have a chicken in the library?”
Owen said “I was going to butcher it and eat it right there.”
Detective Juan “Uh, ok that weird”
Owen said “always good when it fresh, I love it when it warm too.”
Detective Juan said “I might just throw up,”
Owen said, “Don’t worry I do that to on the first bit but then it is the best chicken ever.”
Detective Juan questioned Owen “Where were you in the building when you heard the scream?
Owen replied “I didn’t hear it at all.”
Detective Juan answer “but you were in the building!”
Owen said “Yeah I know I was just so focused on the book I was reading.”
Detective Juan yelled out, “I have a solution, Andrew did it. Since he didn’t want to go with dante to go get ice cream he went to a restaurant to grab the knife he was going to kill dante with it, so he waited there for dante to return. And he asked if he wanted to go to the library but why at night. He went there because he knew wayne was in town and he knew that he wanted to get something there. So he thought that he could get wayne thrown into the mix when andrew actually killed Dante. The bloody napkin was from andrew wiping off the knife of blood and threw the knife away but accidentally kept the napkin and saying it was a bloody nose. Which was a lie. He also had the video game in his hand and Since dante was killed in the video section it makes sense that he was there.

Spaghetti Tower

I was in a group with Jaden, Collin, and Thomas. We made a tower with a square base and had it going up with cross braces. The nest was made with all tape it we have the sticky side up because it would hold the egg in place. The things that went well were making the cross bracings and taping sticks together to make them longer. What didn’t go well was we ran out of tape.

Math Project Pythagorean Theorem

img_2811

After the project was finished, we felt satisfied. Laying out the problem was much more challenging than previously expected. The model was hands down the hardest part, however; making a triangular model, this being a city, and finding how to apply it was very frustrating.

Our story problem is…
Jim and Sally wanted to go to library to go get some books. From Sally’s house to Library A is 9 miles away. They went to the library and couldn’t find the book they were looking for. They decided to go to Library B. Library B is 10 miles away from Library A. They went inside and found the book! They then went back to home. What is the distance (or hypotenuse) to Sally’s house? Round to the nearest tenth.

A^2 + B^2 = C^2
9^2 + 10^2 = C^2
81 + 100 = C^2
181 = C^2
181=C
13.5 = C

Metaphor Writing
I am a Jungle. A jungle has many things. I am also made up of many different things too. The first way I am like a jungle is that there are many trees. Trees are the thing that holds the forest together and if someone takes them away it changes the forest. My life is like that because if I try to be like someone then the special things that are a part of me are taken away from me. My life would be nothing if I didn’t have trees because I wouldn’t be myself. My life would not be fun because I would constantly trying to be someone else. If people keep trying to change me, I will not become myself I would become a whole different person than I am now, so I am not going to let that happen.
I am also like a jungle because of all the animals. The animals are my friends it is what makes up the jungle. My life is so full of friends, I try to be friends with everyone. Some of my friends are like sloths always lazy and don’t care what they are doing. Others are like snakes sneaking around trying to do something to me that funny. Others are like elephants because they are playful and they alway like doing things. If I didn’t have these animals/friends in my life I wouldn’t be like a jungle.
I am also like a jungle with it hidden things. In the jungle there are many things to be discovered. I am still discovering things about God and myself. Something’s about God are how he will alway be with me and he is living inside of me and I should live that he is in me. Also God doesn’t care if you make mistakes he is alway there to forgive you. Somethings about me are that I am learning to become a better listener when I am in a group I can sometime have things go in one ear and out the other, I can learn to be a better listener. I have discovered that I am good at talking to people even when I shouldn’t be, I need to put myself in a spot where I don’t get distracted.
Finally, I am like a jungle with it’s plants. In the jungle there are many different plants. They are alway discovering and learning about the new plants. I have new plants everyday I am constantly learning new things. I go to school and learn about many different things. A venus fly trap is like math because you get trapped inside with all the math facts and it never goes away. Orchids are like Language arts because they are good smelling like Mrs. Roskamp’s room. Bamboo are like bible because we are learning about God and as we go out and make more christians Bamboo is trying to get back from being endangered so they are growing in number too.

God Sightings

This weekend I was helping in Sunday school. I saw a lot of little kids using all their gifts. Some had reading skills so they could read some had drawing skills so they could draw very well, some used there socializing to talk a lot, some used there baseball skills. God gives us all different skills and we have to use them in the way God wants us to use them.

Chain

img_3681-1

In science we had to make a chain to hold around 7 pounds. My partner was Weston. We made our chain with string and pipe cleaners. Our chain can hold all of the 7 pounds because the pipe cleaners are made of metal and the string is made up of a lot of little strong strands. Everything went well we had all the same ideas.

Names of Jesus

This week in Bible we have been studying different names of Jesus. My name that was assigned to me was Lamb of God. Jesus was called Lamb of God because he came to earth and died as a lamb for our sins. Back then lambs were sacrificed for sins, so now that Jesus came and died we don’t need to do that anymore.

Selfless Theme Writing

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Selfless

“Selfless” is a challenging theme for this year because we are trying to be Christ-like. “Selfless” is very meaningful to me because I desire to be Christ-like and that is hard because Jesus is perfect and we are not. When we chose “Selfless” over at the church last year, it felt like it was God working through us to suddenly come up with that theme. When we came up with “Selfless” we were in the 7th grade, we went over to the gym at the church, we split up into groups and we all took 15-30 minutes looking through the Bible, then we went into 4 different groups and voted on which ones were most meaningful to us. Then the top one from each group were voted on and “Selfless” came up with the most votes. I can apply this theme to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian School and to my life in the community and in the world.

This year’s theme can apply to my life here at Zeeland Christian School. There are many ways that you can be selfless at Zeeland Christian. One way is that you can do things unnoticed, this is one of my favorites because I don’t want everything to be on me and I don’t want to be the center of attention. Also, doing small things can end up to be big things. Another way is that you can help out anyone no matter if they are different than you. It doesn’t matter who you are, everyone needs help even if it is something small. Another way is that you can just be yourself. Being yourself is one way of being selfless because if you just be you and not try to be someone else that you think you want to be, you don’t draw attention to yourself.

This year’s theme also applies to my life outside of school. One way to be selfless outside your school is to go into your community and help pick up trash. There is always trash to pick up because it is all over the place. Picking up a little trash can make a big difference. Another way is that you can just help others out if they need help with something. For example, you can help an older woman grab something on the top shelf in a grocery store, especially if you are tall like me. Another way to be selfless is to simply say hi to someone and that might just make their day.

I can apply the theme “Selfless” to my life as an 8th grader at Zeeland Christian and to my life in the community and in the world. “Selfless” is an important part of my 8th grade year. This theme shows us how to be Christ-like and even though we can’t be exactly like Christ we can act like him. Being selfless everywhere is a good thing because when people do things selflessly we can show Christ to the world.
