Math Project Pythagorean Theorem

After the project was finished, we felt satisfied. Laying out the problem was much more challenging than previously expected. The model was hands down the hardest part, however; making a triangular model, this being a city, and finding how to apply it was very frustrating.

Our story problem is…
Jim and Sally wanted to go to library to go get some books. From Sally’s house to Library A is 9 miles away. They went to the library and couldn’t find the book they were looking for. They decided to go to Library B. Library B is 10 miles away from Library A. They went inside and found the book! They then went back to home. What is the distance (or hypotenuse) to Sally’s house? Round to the nearest tenth.

A^2 + B^2 = C^2
9^2 + 10^2 = C^2
81 + 100 = C^2
181 = C^2
181=C
13.5 = C
