Por las últimas dos semanas, tuve la oportunidad de aprender sobre la Selva Amazónica. Todos en el salón de clases de Mr. Minkus consiguieron un rol de alguien que usa los recursos de la Selva Amazónica. Para mi, y tres otras personas (Jacob Spaulding, Paula Vasquez, Jake Leenstra) tuvimos la oportunidad de jugar el rol de un maderero. Un maderero es alguien que usa la Selva Amazónica para cortar árboles y vender la madera a factorías de madera. Era muy interesante debatir si la idea de deforestación era bueno para la economía. En 2006, los madereros donaron/dieron $5,000,000 al gobierno de Brasil. ¡Esto es mucho dinero! Además, el trabajo de los madereros da mucha oportunidad para trabajo para los ciudadanos de Brasil.

Aunque conseguí in rol en que estoy para la deforestación, en la vida real, no creo que las deforestación es bueno. Hemos ya cortado y usado muchos de los recursos de nuestro mundo. La Selva Amazónica es un parte del mundo muy precioso, algo que creo debe estar protegido y no dañado. Sin embargo, los productos y trabajos y monedas que vienen de la deforestación son muchos, muchos que ayudan a nuestro economía. Pero, creo que Brasil puede ir sin utilizar estos recursos. Creo que las personas que tratan a dañar cualquier parte de la Selva Amazónica, deben tener la advertencia de que si cortan un árbol, serán deportados a otro país/continente. Esto será muy justo. Creo que está bien si las Indígenas Amazónicas quieren quedarse en su lugar porque ha sido su lugar por mucho tiempo y es su forma de vida.

He aprendido y tomado mucho de la experiencia del debate de la Selva Amazónicas. Algún día me gustaría ir a a la selva para mirar y observar el trabajo de la cual han tomado para proteger la Selva Amazónica. No sé si hay manera de la cual que puedo responder. Creo que desde este momento adelante voy a tomar tiempo para orar para el gobierno de Brasil, para que pueden ser sabios en hacer su decisión de la selva. Creo que preservar la tierra de Dios es muy importante y no me gustaría hacer cualquier cosa para dañar su increíble obra de arte. Me gustaría aprender más sobre que la Biblia dice sobre la deforestación y tratar de comprender lo que Dios quiere de nosotros cuando viene a proteger or dañar la Selva Amazónica.

Tuve la oportunidad increíble de hablar con personas que han inmigrado a los U.S.A. Todo el séptimo grado juntamos en la biblioteca de mi escuela, Zeeland Christian School, mientras varias personas visitaron a nuestros grupos. En cada grupo, hubo 3 ó 4 personas. Mi grupo tuvo 2 visitantes, Sandra Burgos y Julio Ramos. Sandra, nos dijo sobre su experiencia y razones en mover a los U.S.A. Dijo que ella y su familia no querían inmigrar a los Estados Unidos, pero es lo que Dios les dijo. Tomó varios años para decidir si ella quería venir a los U.S.A. Pero, con la ayuda de familia, y el amor de Dios, inmigraron a los U.S.A. Julio Ramos fue historia diferente. Julio se cazó cuando tuvo 24 años. Su esposa y él tuvieron una hija de dos años, pero murió de cancer. Entonces, decidió que era tiempo de ir a diferente lugar. Decidieron mover a los U.S.A.

Me gustó mucho la experiencia. Creo que la parte que me gustó mejor fue la historia de Sandra. Es increíble su historia. Como solamente movió a los U.S.A. porque fue la obra de Dios. Nos dijo que su corazón estuvo en Chile, pero Dios cambió su corazón. También nos dijo que Zeeland Christian School es como un parte del Cielo para su familia. Esto provocó mucho emoción positivo para mi grupo. Además de la historia de Sandra, también la historia de Julio me impactó mucho. Me enseño que aunque malas cosas pasen para nosotros (la muerte de la hija de Julio,) Dios tiene un razón, y algo bueno va a salir de ella.

Aprendí mucho por haber platicado con Julio y Sandra. Aprendí que la familia de Andrés son misioneros. Aprendí que Puerto Rico es parte de los Estados Unidos, pero no es un estado. Julio nos contó que si vives en Puerto Rico, eres ciudadano de los Estados Unidos, entonces no necesitas Visa o Green Card. Sandra nos dijo que una de las cosas más difíciles de mover hasta los U.S.A. fue ver el alimento aquí. Todos sabemos que botamos parte de nuestra comida, y ella dijo que esto le impactó mucho en mover aquí. Creo que esto es como voy a tratar de cambiar mi patrón. Sé que no es espiritual, pero es como me impactó a mi y probablemente a mi grupo también. Creo que las corazones de Sandra y Julio son muy lindas, y quisiera ser como ellos algún día.

Estoy muy contento con los resultas del Día de Inmigración, y me gustaría hacerlo otra y otra vez.

Para mi desafío de consumo, voy a tomar duchas de 2:30 segundos y menos. Cada vez que voy a duchar, en vez de tomar duchas de cinco a veinte minutos, voy a tomar duchas de solamente 2:30 segundos o menos. Para asegurar que no ducho poro más que 2:30 segundos, voy a establecer una alarma. Cuando la alarma suena, voy a apagar la agua.

Cuando vi el video de los fábricas de Nike, me volví muy consciente cuanto trabajo es para personas pobres tomar una ducha muy corta, me di cuenta de lo mucho que me daba por sentado. Por ver cuanta agua ellos no tienen, y necesitan, pensé que vivir en los zapatos (de sus situaciones de agua) de ellos sería buena idea. Me dará idea más poderosa de como sientan las personans que trabajan en los factorías de Nike.

I had a very hard time figuring out 3.3, where we had to do long division with decimals. The past I struggled with the most was placing the decimal in the final answer. Mr. Minkus helped me figure it out. Since the lower number had a decimal, I had to move the decimals of both the numbers, so there were integers. After doing that, I had to calculate 3610 / 76. I started by fitting in 76 to 361. It fit in four times. Ideally, I would’ve put the decimal at the end of all the numbers, instead, I put it on top of the 1, because it was the last number of 361. I continued to do all the dividing through the problem, being sure to take Mr. Minkus’ advice by putting the result on top of the last number of the divisor. Now, long division with decimals is much easier.

Long division is used all the time on a daily basis. For example, if I had to bring in a birthday treat for the whole grade (caramel apple suckers), and I brought in 6 bags of suckers, how many would each student and teacher get. I would be able to divide all the suckers up evenly, like I did in math.

¿Por que quieres que sepa todo el mundo sobre la resurrección de Jesús?

Quiero que todos sepan de la resurrección de Jesús, porque quiero que todos van al Cielo para conocer a Dios y Jesús. Si todos sepan sobre la resurrección, van a querer saber más sobre Dios y sobre la biblia. Creo que todos seriamos un poco más felices, y seriamos mucho más agradecidos de lo que Dios ha hecho por nosotros. ¡Todo el mundo debe saber de la resurrección de Jesús!

Are 2 characteristics of civilization were Social Structure and Arts.

We came up with some pretty cool ideas for Ancient and Modern Art. For ancient art we showed a 2-D pop can replica of the “Great Pyramid of Giza.” It represented the image of the pyramid, and the old of the pyramid. We purposefully applied paint that would chip to represent the old of the pyramid. For modern art, we made a Digital Art poster, that showed what digital art looked like, that included a description of the DI-EGY festival.

For Ancient social structure, we made a 2-D pyramid that had the social classes written in order form highest to lowest social classes, with some artistic details. For Modern social class, I made a Keynote Q&A presentation. It generally shows how the government is divided by wealth and by law and government.

1. Content

I have really enjoyed learning about earthquakes. I find it very fascinating, because I have always wondered how earthquakes and mountains happen. We learned that different things may occur, when certain things happen. For example: transform ~ earthquake. Divergent ~ deeps sea trench. Convergent ~ mountains and volcanoes. I have also really been enjoying Reading Responses. I loved doing this since the beginning of the year. I like it because I can express the feelings of my book.

2. Skills

I have really enjoyed learning how to do good research. I like learning about other cultures, and knowing how to do research really helps. I have also really liked getting better at working with groups.  I have struggled in the past to learn how to listen to other peoples ideas, but I think all the working in groups that we have done this year, has been really helping.

3. What kinds of lessons and activities help you learn content and skills the best?

It helps me to work with a partner  . . . because if I work alone, I get really distracted, and if I work with groups, sometimes I find it hard to focus, so a partner is perfect for me. It allows me to have fun, get work done, and learn how to work with other people.

On the homework assignment for Social Studies ( the reading ) I learned that the Congress sometimes got angry at the delegates, but in the end they were very happy when their plan succeeded. This was when the delegates wrote a new national government, and the Congress didn’t like it, but they ended up using  plan.

I also learned that the state ratification wasn’t simple, as it might seem. Turns out the information about it had to be posted in newspapers, pamphlets, and public meetings to debate whether the Constitution should approve.

The last thing that I learned was that the Federalists thought that having a bill of rights would be a problem, bit James Madison agreed that a bill of rights should be made. In the end Federalists agreed to have a bill of rights.

I believe that one of the reasons that they felt at aloss with how to identify themselves is because the loyalists that were in the colonies at the time when the war was won, didn’t know if they should feel as a patriot or a loyalist because they disagreed with being called a nation. Another reason might be because the loyalists didn’t know if they should become patriots, or stay as loyalists even though they might be treated differently or given what we call; the cold shoulder or treated in a unfriendly manner.  The loyalists also might feel un-indentified because the war was won by the patriots and the colonists, they might feel ashamed to be a loyalist and want to be a patriot even though they believe that what the British were doing was OK. I conclude that any one of the sides (patriots or loyalist) might feel un-identified and feel a since of injustice. There are many  other reasons why someone might be in a Identity Crisis.

Yo, Naomi Leon is a great book! It talks about a girl who lives with her great grandma. The Mom comes back and they face relationship issues, and other issues with the mother. Enjoy the book!
