In Bible class we learned about Saul/Pauls’s conversion, Mrs. Williams also told us ways that God has been working in her life. One way that God worked in Pual’s life was how he knew many languages and was very educated, which made it easier for Paul to be a Missionary. Another thing God did for Paul was making him have Roman and Jewish citizenship. God has been working in my and my family’s lives, for example, my parents felt they were being called to adopt, so they did. Another way God is working in my life is by making me very social, he gave me the gift to be able to connect with others.
In Bible class, we are studying Christian persecution. The country I was assigned to is Suadi Arabia. I worked in a group with Miya and Melat, we created a website, an informative video, and a slide that is a part of a slideshow about Christian persecution. Here are three facts about Christian persecution. There are 1.2 million Christians in Saudi Arabia. If you are found worshiping in Saudi Arabia you could be deported. Most Christians in Sadia Arabia are foreigners. I am really proud of our video and website we took a lot of time on both.
What did you do for the Stephen project (ie. newspaper, comic, song, etc.)?
Melat and I made a skit.
What did you do well on the project? (or what are you proud of and what do you want me to look at when I grade it?
I feel that Melat and I did very well on our skit. We had an amazing script and we had professional acting skills.
How do you think you would feel if you were really observing this event?
If I observed the stoning of Steaphan, I would have felt sympathy for him, but I would also be amazed that at a time like that he started praying for the people that were stoning him.
Re-read Acts 7:57-58. How would you feel towards Saul?
I would be mad at Saul for just sitting there and not trying to stop Stepan from getting stoned.
What do you think encouraged these early Christians? In other words, why did the early Christians keep up the faith despite the persecution?
I think it made their faith stronger because they saw Stephan give his life for God, and it could make them want to try and be more open and more willing to do anything for God, even if they were afriad.
God has made many covenants with his people. There are two different types of covenants, conditional and unconditional. For my visual, I choose my siblings Chloe and Jay. I choose them because they were adopted and adoption is a type of covenant. I learned that God is very forgiving because he knows that humans sin. Also, we talked about how the new covenant is unconditional, which means that no matter how much we mess up he is still going to follow through with the covenant.
Call:
We respond to God’s promises of love and grace. My visual for this theme is a phone. I choose this because that is how I communicate with others. Just like God communicates to us through the bible and prayer. I feel called to listen to others and be a helpful friend. We are all called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to lead more people towards him.
Sinai Law:
God gave us the bible as a guide to know how to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The bible reflects God. But we are still distracted by golden calves. My visual for this theme was volleyball because sometimes it can be a golden calf. It can cause me to be far too competitive, which leads to me being rude or getting mad at my teammates when they make a mistake. During this lesson, I realized there are many golden cafes in my life that are distracting me from listening to God.
Something is Rotten:
During this lesson, we were talking about how Elijah calls Israel back to God. We were talking about how we are called back to God. For my visuals, I chose an Uno card. I choose this because when you play the reverse card it switches the direction of the game. This reminded me of God because whenever we sin we have to reverse back to God. I learned in this theme that God is constantly calling us back to him because our human nature causes us to fall away from God. Luckily God is very patient and forgiving.
Salute to a king:
The Israelites wanted a king, but God just wanted someone to guide them to himself. For my visual, I chose a crown because the Israelites wanted to be like every other nation and have a king. But God just wanted them to continue to listen and obey him. I learned that following God can be very difficult because other people may do things differently and you want to fit in. That then temps us to stray away from God, to do what we think is correct.
Sent to Promised Land:
This theme was all about trust. The Israelites had to trust God on their journey to the promised land. For my visual, I choose an airplane because when you get on an airplane you have no control over what happens you have to trust the pilot. Also, you trust God because he controls everything that happens in your life. I learned more in-depth about trust during this unit. We have to trust God completely with everything because we need to rely on God through everything.
Conflict and Doubt:
This theme was talking about how it is healthy to ask questions regarding your faith. It is important to bring them to God. For my Visual, I choose my best friends because I ask them lots of questions. We sometimes have disagreements but it doesn’t mean we are going to stop being friends. I learned that it is the same with God. When I struggle with trusting God it doesn’t mean I am a bad Christian. Also, I learned that it is ok to question God’s decisions as long as you still trust him.
A Savior:
This theme was talking about how all of the old testaments point to God making brokenness whole through Jesus. For my visual, I choose the cross because that is how God made the brokenness whole. He used his one and only son and sacrificed him for the sin of the word. Jesus is our savior. I believe that there is still lots of brokenness in this world because of sin nothing will be perfect until the new earth.
I have been doing cold showers for the past 4 days and it is horrible. I have to take super quick showers because it’s SO cold. I basically put shampoo in my hair rinse it out then the same thing with conditioner then I get out. It has been giving me a headache when I am in the shower it feels like a brain freeze. But I read online that cold showers are good for your hair, so at least there is something good coming out of this. Plus the hot water bill is probably lower because I usually take 30 minutes to shower because the warm water feels so good. But I have not cheated…Yet 🙂
Yesterday I took a cold shower for the first time and I think that it sped up my shower a lot and it was super cold and I disliked it very much. I had a brain freeze. I really wanted to turn it warmer but I didnt.
In Social Studies we are learning about consumer consumption. We watched a movie called A Doller A Day. It is a movie about 4 Americans who decided to move to Guatemala and live on a roller a day for a summer. So my 7th-grade class is doing the consumer consumption challenge. I choose to take only cold showers for a week. I choose this so I could have a small glimpse into life without electricity.
