Astrolabes

This is an astrolabe. They were used by early explorers and still used today to tell time, or latitude and longitude. You look through the straw at the sun and see where the string is.

Brian’s winter prompts

1. Brian’s Winter is a good title for the book because it is about his winter in the woods.

2. The main idea of the story is Brian surviving the winter in the Canadian woods.

3. I think Brian threw meat out to the skunk so he wouldn’t get sprayed but it wasn’t smart because I think the skunk will keep coming back for more.

4. I wonder if Brian will make animal-skin clothes for the winter.     ————————————————————————————–

  1. The most important part of the story is Brian making and discovering new things.
  2. I think the next chapter will be about Brian hunting again. I think he will get something big.
  3. I think the next challenge he faces will be that he won’t be able to                                         find food.
  4.  I read a story called My Side of the Mountain and it was a lot like this.                                             5. I think the author chose this setting because it would be interesting to know what would happen to Brian if the plane would happen to Brian if the plane hadn’t picked him up in Hatchet.                                                                                                                                ——————————————————————————————————————————–1. I still wonder if Brian wanted to leave the woods.                                                                        2. I noticed that Brian was lost for words when he met the people.                                                    3. If i could ask Brian something it would be how he felt when he found the people.                          4. If there was a message in this book it would be that it is possible to survive in the woods                                                                                                                                                                 5.The author used descriptive words to help me visualize the story.
