My Volcano

Our volcano is a composite volcano. We made our volcano out of play dough stuff. We then painted all of the play dough and the sides of the tin foil which made it look more realistic. It took us about a week to make our volcano and I wish we would’ve done paper mache because the play dough all slides down the side of the coke bottle. I thought this project was more fun than the earthquake project. We are using mentos and coke to make it explode. Our volcano has a magma chamber, crater, vent, side vent, Hot Spring, Dike, and Parasitic cone.

God’s Preparation

I think that God has been preparing me to do work for him by doing something outdoors, or with sports. Im not sure what exactly he wants me to do but right now I think it would something with one of those.

I have had plenty of experiences with God’s nature while being outdoors hunting. I have had the chance to kill lots of animals hunting and catch lots of big fish. SO I think this means God would like me to do something with the hunting or the outdoors when I grow up.

I have also had the experience to play in lots of sports whether it baseball, basketball, or football. I think that God might have me do something sport related to when I grow up because of all of the chances he’s given me at sports.

I think that eventually when I grow up I will do something with the outdoors or sports because that is what I passion most and what I enjoy to do. I think that God will choose to use my ability of one these to serve him and others.

SLEEP

Something I learned… 50% of your life is spent sleeping. When your asleep your brain doesn’t shut off.

Something I didn’t know. That a teenager should get 9hrs of sleep a night.

Questions. How do you get Jetleg? Does it happen in other countrys.

Mystery

MYSTERY

One afternoon Tim was walking downtown Holland to his job. Tara was also walking downtown holland to her job. Two boys Levi and Logan were brothers and just got done playing in a high school basketball and were going out to eat at the DELI. They saw Tim walking downtown with his wallet in his back pocket. Levi said to Logan i’ll give you 20$ if you steal that wallet. Logan bumped into him and snatched the wallet out of his back pocket. Levi went off walking and laughing as Logan had just stolen the random mans wallet. They went into the DELI and ordered deep fried mushrooms and burgers with FROZEN YOGURT. Later on while they were eating and pumped up after beating HC they saw the same random man “TIM” walk in with his wife Tara. Logan started panicking thinking he was forsure screwed and that the man would bust him. Tim ended up sitting down and ordered a beer and food. Tim and Tara just sat and acted like nothing happened. Logan knew he would be screwed eventually because Tim would have to pay with his wallet when he was done eating. Logan panicked and went to the bathroom. He finally felt better when he got back. Once him and Levi were done eating they left and went back home. That night Tim had his wallet.

SOLUTION: The solution of my Mystery is that Logan snuck the wallet into Tara’s purse who set it on the bed next to Tim’s pants that night. So Tim ended up never realizing he lost his wallet and ended up getting it back.

Marissa, Trinity, and I were in a group. I came up with idea to use a hunter in a treestand shooting a deer with a bow. When you are hunting you have sights and have to know how far away the deer is. So you have to figure out the distance to where the deer is. So if you figure out how far away it is and the deer walks there then you will know what sight/pin to use to shoot the deer. So my group used the Pythagorean theorem to figure it out. Our results made sense because our hypotenuse was 28.30 feet, which is the longest measurement of the three measurements we made. This project helped me understand the pythagorean theorem because it gave me a real life visual of a way I could use this in real life.

Thematic Writing

The book I read was The Walk On. The author was John Feinstein. The Walk On is about a family that moved from Boston to Philadelphia. A freshman kid named Alex wants to try out for the varsity football team as their quarterback. He has no friends when he gets to his first practice. He meets a kid named Jonas Ellington who also new to the school who trying out to be a receiver for the varsity football team. After the first practice Alex realized the team already had a really quarterback who was the coach’s son Matt Gordon. Alex on his first day of school in french class met a really pretty girl named Christine Woford who was another one of his new friends. Alex ended making the varsity football as well and Jonas. Alex was third string quarterback and didn’t get to play much in games. On the last play of one of there games, Coach Gordon put Alex in to take the final knee to run down the clock to zero. Alex took the knee and got nailed by one of the defenders and broke some ribs and had a minor concussion. Jonas caught a some touchdown passes as one of the team’s best wide receivers. As the football team made the playoffs they took a steroid test and Matt Gordon was taking steroids and didn’t want to get caught so he switched his and Alex’s labels on the steroid bottles. Alex ended up getting the blame for taking the steroids until things ended up getting sorted out. Matt wasn’t allowed to play in any more football games and Alex ended up losing in the championship game and was really depressed, but after the game he went to homecoming with Christine Woford and that cheered him up. One lesson I learned was don’t try to make yourself better by cheating or lying.

This is obvious when Matt takes steroids. Matt Gordon was taking steroids throughout the regular season and never thought about drug/steroid testing when they would reach the playoffs. Matt ended up leading the team to the playoffs and they were undefeated when they reached the semifinals and Matt was having a great season. Matt was one of the best quarterbacks in the state and was getting looked at by some college scouts. Matt ended up getting caught by Alex and the high school drug inspector people. I realized that I should never take steroids to try to get better.

Another place I learned don’t try to make yourself better by cheating is when Alex’s best friend Jonas Ellington drops a pass in a playoff game and said he caught it. Jonas ended up getting in trouble after the game because his coach saw that he dropped the and cheated/lied to the referee that he caught the football. After Jonas got in trouble for lying to the ref and his coach saw it the next practice he had to come early and do sprints. I learned that you should not lie to the referee even if it’s gonna benefit your team. You should have good sportsmanship and be honest.

I also saw that you should not make yourself better by cheating or lying when coach Gordon “Matt’s dad” told the media that his son did not take steroids and didn’t do anything wrong. Coach Gordon ended up getting fired for lying to the media and the high school drug people. Coach Gordon was not allowed to coach or teach at the high school anymore and his son wasn’t allowed to play any sports. Coach Gordon eventually admitted that his son took steroids and that he lied. I learned that you should never lie about taking steroids and you should come clean and admit that your son took them.

One lesson I learned was don’t try to make yourself better by cheating or lying. I personally really liked this book it is action packed! I really am not a huge fan of reading books I normally get bored, but this book kept me interested from the beginning. I thought this was a great book and that author John Feinstein did a good job. I am currently reading his next book in the series and like that book too.

Nitrogen Cycle

Abby and I did the nitrogen cycle. First the nitrogen comes out of a factory. Then it goes up into the air and clouds. Then the nitrogen comes down from the clouds as rain and lightning. Next the nitrogen is in the plants and waters. Then the animals eat and drink the nitrogen in the water or plants. Then the nitrogen is in the animals and they decompose the nitrogen as poop. Then the poop goes into the air and clouds and the cycle continues over and over again.

GOD SITINGS

I saw God this past week/weekend in the nature while I was up north bear hunting. I saw how huge strong and fast he can make a bear and how fast and smart he can make a dog to track a bear. I saw God in the beautiful sunsets over the lake. I also saw God in some of the ranger rides we would take and when we would see interesting wildlife.

Matthew 7: 24-25

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world.

I really like our theme this year that we picked out at camp. It tells me and reminds me that our school is built on the rock and will stand strong through storms and rough moments. It reminds me that our school is built on a firm foundation! This verse reminds me that anywhere I am I don’t have to worry about strong winds and rains because God will help me through that time. This verse also tells me we have to tell others about the bible and put God’s word into practice.

The verse tells me to go out into the world and preach God’s word to people who don’t know God. This verse reminds that God will always be by my side help me when I get further into my life into college and a grown up. It reminds that I will need to help others when they don’t have confidence or are scared in moments. It means to me that moments will be tough in life and i’m gonna needs God’s help along the way and he will give it to me.  I realize that I need to be like the wise man who built his house on the rock, even though sometimes my life/house can be on the sand.

Our theme this year, “Built on the Rock”, means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a Christian in the world. We need to act out this verse and out it into practice not just read it and talk about it.

Descriptive Writing

The anchor reminds of mornings I would be up north and go on our lake and fish. I would feel the morning dew on the handle of the trolling motor. If I was really quiet I could also hear the hooting call of a loon. When I would catch a fish I could smell the fishy smell they have on my hands. When I would finish fishing I would go and eat my breakfast and taste the sweltering hot bacon on my tongue.

The ladder reminds me of a mountain. This summer we went to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. One morning we went for a hike to a lake on a really big mountain I could see the mountains sparkling reflection on the water. I could taste my peanut butter and jelly when we stopped and took a break to eat lunch. On the way back I could hear the screeching call of a hawk in the distance but when it came closer we realized it was a eagle. When we were driving back to the hotel we saw a buffalo walking down the road.

The money symbol reminds of when I went golfing with my cousin Tanner. We went to Macatawa Legends on a cold morning. The grass was so wet you see the golf carts tracks in the fairway after we would drive through it. The sun was rising and shining bright in the distance. I could hear the smack from my cousins driver and he drove a huge drive. I hit my ball in a bunker and could feel the soaking wet sand in my shoes as I hit it out of the bunker.

SUMMER

This summer my family and I went to out west to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. I saw the Mount Rushmore and saw the four presidents carved into the rock. We also saw lots of wildlife, we saw a buffalo walking down the road. We also saw antelope, pronghorn, moose, elk, prairie dogs, bears, and blacktail deer. I went to my cottage this summer and tubed and caught some fish. I also played baseball this summer and are all star team lost in the championship.

African Union Day.

During African union day we each had our own countries and resolutions we tried to pursway the other group to vote for our resolution and sign it.  The most significant thing a learned was that you need to have people like you and vote for you so you get more votes and signatures on your resolutions. My favorite thing was that it felt real having moderators and voting for stuff. My least favorite thing was too many people didn’t listen to the resolutions and just voted for their friends and voted NO on everything else. Another frustrating thing was my group had like the exact same resolution as the group that won and nobody voted for us and everybody voted for them.

Apartheid Response

The relationships changed throughout the movie like when the Jersey Kid turned down the free jersey they offered him and at the end he wore it. Another relationship that changed was Francois Pinaar when he got invited to the presidents house for tea. The Francois basically made the whole team to pick up their game.  I also think that the team’s mindset was changed when they got to see Mandela’s jail cell. I also think Mandela’s relationship changed when he had convinced the board not to change their jerseys and all that stuff. I also think Mandela’s relationship was changed when Francois gave him a Bokke/springbox hat.

This represented South Africa post-apartheid by having both black and whites untied together on the same team and both cheering for the same team in the crowd.  It represented South Africa by segregating them together. I also thought it represented post-aparthied when they went to that school and whites and black were united together and played rugby together at the school and made all the kids days when they arrived and left, and like before all the spring box games the kids would all chase the bus to were it would park, and when they would run around the neighborhoods and the kids would run with them and encourage them. I also thought it was really cool when Mandela would come out before games and after games and they would all chant NELSON, NELSON, NELSON.
