Metaphor Writing

I am a volcano

I am a volcano. A volcano simmers for a while and just sits about waiting for its time to erupt. Often before something major happens in my life, things seem to just sit getting worse little by little until they erupt. For example, my grandpa’s back was hurting, after that my Grandma O. died, then Grandpa needed someone with him to take care of him at all times, during this time I got closer to him. I loved spending time with him. I was just simmering when he was sick but he could still be home and do some things even though he was in a lot of pain.

Next, a volcano is ready to erupt.   I think I was ready to erupt when my grandpa got really sick from too much medicine.  The Dr.’s at the hospital thought he was going to die, so did we, we were so scared. My parents even told me to say goodbye to Grandpa because we probably wouldn’t see him again. That was a tough night because after that I went home to bed. It was really hard to sleep after I had just said goodbye to grandpa and I thought that was the last time I would see ever him on earth.  The eruption got stopped though, which is another thing that sometimes happens to a volcano. The next morning my mom got a call from Aunt Marcia, we all thought it was that Grandpa died during the night, instead she said I have someone who would like to talk to you…then Grandpa came on the phone and said “HI! How are you?” in his normal perky way! He was back to himself! We went to go see him and he was talking and telling me jokes, just like Grandpa always did.  In the hospital, the whole family talked and listened in excitement.

A volcano also goes upward. After that eruption stop Grandpa went to Freedom Village, a nursing home.  We went there almost everyday to say hi and he told us jokes went for a walk and once we even had Russ’ onion rings (his favorite- ours too). The nurses always had funny stories to tell us about Grandpa. After a while the nurses knew us and really knew who Grandpa was! They even let me get apple juice and milk whenever I wanted, and they gave me a cookie once in a while, along with some Root Beer Floats, I had so many of those!

A  volcano finally erupts, Things were still going upward. We had booked a cruise and made sure Grandpa was going to be ok before we left, we went to Florida then on our cruise. We couldn’t get in contact with my aunts or uncles because we were out of the country. When we were on our last stop, Key West, Florida. My dad turned on his phone and checked his voice mail.  Mom and I  got ready that morning, and went down to the boys room.  When we got there, everyone was crying. We asked what was going on, dad played the voice mail – it was Uncle Ron’s voice telling us that Grandpa had died.  Everyone started crying. We finally decided we would finish the cruise then drive home as soon as we got back to my grandma Vos’. We went out to explore the Key, and we wanted to snorkel but my dad can hardly swim so he didn’t want to. Finally my dad said we could for grandpa because he would’ve wanted us to have as much fun as possible, and he was adventurous. We drove from Miami after the cruise to Orlando stopped to get our things and drove home…it was a long car ride. We came home and had his visitation and funeral.
