Chinese New Year Celebration
You are invited to join us to celebrate Chinese New Year on February 13 at 6:00pm in the Gym. Thank you for those who turned in the invitation. If you like to attend, please turn them in as soon as possible. Thank you!

First Grade Field Trip:
Lollipop concert by Grand Rapids Symphony, Tuesday Morning, January 26 at DeWitt Auditorium (Zeeland East) 
Thank you to Kristi Van Dyk and Jen Brower for driving the field trip! We will leave at 9:00am, if you could come at 8:50am that would be great! There is 2 dollars fee for attending parents.

There will be an immersion information meeting for anyone looking for more information about our Mandarin and Spanish immersion programs.It will be held in the choir room on Tuesday, January 26 at 7:00 pm

Box Tops:
It’s time to collect box tops! Please write the number of box tops on the bag. Thanks!

2nd to 4th Grade Musical
The elementary musical date has been changed to Tuesday, March 15 at 7pm. It will still be held at Community Reformed church.  Please make this change on your calendars.

-Accuracy: Skip the word, then come back
-Fluency: Good fit books
-Expand Vocabulary: Use word part to figure out sounds and meanings

-Writers’ Workshop: We will begin a new unit called authors as mentors, we will exam books by Ezra Jack Keats and learns the strategies he used to write a small moment story.

Math
-First Grade: teen problems with various unknowns; problems with three addends
-Second Grade: word problems with addition and subtraction; equations with greater numbers; practice addition and subtraction

Social Studies
We will switch to science in the coming months.

Bible
We will learn about healing the demoniacs; healing the paralytic: wake up!: cure at Bethsaida

Science
We will learn about major bodies of water on earth; snow and ice melts on the mountain

Information and Reminders:

No Chinese homework this week(English homework will be as usual)
As it will be the last week of this semester, I will use this week to review and assess. We will start a new unit of Language Arts next week.

We are going to learn about the earth’s land and water in the coming weeks for our science lesson. I would like some photographs that have plains, rivers, mountains, hills or valleys which students have taken on their vocations. We are going to learn about each features of different landforms. It would be great if we can connect with their experience. Photographs will be returned after we finish the lessons. (it is not mandated, feel free to bring some or not)

Announcing: The ZCS Snow Day Challenge!!
With snow comes the excitement of snow days, and at ZCS, we are hoping for at least one snow day so that we can have our first ZCS Snow Day Challenge! Keep your eyes open for more information when (and if) we have our first snow day-you won’t want to miss it!

-Second Grade: subtraction word problems; two methods of subtraction; practice and explain a method

Social Studies
We will switch to science in the coming months.

Bible
We will learn about Zacchaeus, and we will move to another unit about miracles of Jesus: miracle at Cana; a soldier’s faith; calming the storm

Science
We will finish the unit and have a unit test.
