Curriculum
Language Arts
-Reading Strategy:
We will finish reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater. Each week we will focus on one or two reading strategies to help us understand plot and settings of this book. This week we will spend time to exam different characters in this book. We will talk about how the author used descriptions and conversations to show the characters personalities. We will use this book as an example to talk about realistic fictions which will be our next writing genre.
-Writers’ Workshop: Most of students shared their how-to books to the class. The kids have many good topics to share. We are going to write more how-to books and role play directions with their partner to check clarity.
Math
-First Grade: We will review and have a unit test. Then we will have a new unit about different place value situations. This week we will solve teen addition problems with unknown partners.
-Second Grade: We hope to wrap up our current unit, review materials we have learned, and take unit 4 assessment this week.
Social Studies
We are going to study a unit about history of our families and schools. We are going to talk about past, present and future in our first lesson.
Science
-First Grade: We will learn weathers in spring when the weather is warm(probably in March). We will start learning the animal unit in April.
-Second Grade:We will be using another week for our TerraCycle and Using Resources Wisely projects. We hope to finish them this week.
Bible
We will move on to Judges. This week we will talk about Othniel; God calls Gideon and Gideon and the Midianites.
