Newsletter Oct. 30-Nov.3

Dear parents,

This week was the first week we implemented Mandarin Only Timeline. We talked about how to use actions or words you know to express themselves. I glad to see the students were trying hard to say words in Mandarin and reminded each other to speak Mandarin!

From the Immersion Coordinator
What will Grandparents’ Day in the immersion classroom look like? While we do our very best to always expect only Spanish or Chinese in our immersion classrooms, Grandparents’ Day is one day where we bend the rules a little. While each teacher might do it a little differently, the teacher will always address the students in the target language and the students should talk with the teacher in the target language. However, the students may certainly speak with the Grandparents in English! The teachers will either speak directly with the grandparents in English or some teachers in the older grades may challenge their students to do the translating for their grandparents. We look forward to welcoming all the grandparents/friends on Friday!

We will practice labeling things. For the next couple weeks, we will use cut out labels to label things.

Science
We will introduce a new unit about motions. We will talk about motion on the playground.

We will learn about the fruits of the sprit throughout the year. For the month of November, we will learn about the fruit of peace.

Social Studies
We will continue the Project Based Learning (PBL) unit of making a map for grandparents’ day. Last week, we used the map to walk around the school and marked important places to help our grandparents get around. This week, we are excited to show our grandparents around the school!
