Sulfur Cycle

I was in charge of the Sulfur Cycle and I will now explain how it works. The first step in the cycle is when Sulfur is released into the air from earthly eruptions. That could be earthquakes, decomposition, hot springs, etc. The next thing that happens is when sulfur dioxides mix with oxygen in the air and it creates Sulfur trioxide. The next thing that happens is when Sulfur trioxides mix with water droplets and can create sulfuric acid. Another thing that can happen is that sulfur trioxides mix with ammonia and create ammonium salts. The next thing that happens is when the wind carries the droplets to the clouds and they fall to the earth in forms of precipitation. It expands in to the earth surface and helps all living things grow. Plants absorb it and the animals eat it and they both gain the sulfur they need. When plants or animals die, poop, or shrivel up that is called decomposition. The gases mix the make gaseous hydrogen sulfide and some of it expands into the earth to start the cycle over.sulfur-cycle-8-638

Theme Writing

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
Matthew 7:24-25

At the end of our 7th grade year, we went to camp and decided the theme that our whole school would focus on for 2015-2016. Our theme to focus on this year is “Built on the Rock”, and this is a theme that means a lot to me as a student in 8th grade, but also in my spiritual life in this world.

This theme reminds me to build my trust on God, but also be a leader and help others discover that to. “Built on the Rock” is especially meaningful to our new addition. Last year each kid in the school threw a rock in the foundation of the new addition, so technically speaking, we are “Built on the Rock”. Our school has gone through a lot, but we are still standing strong because our focus in this school is God. Since I am on the Planning Team and since I am a Small Group leader, my goal this year is to help not only myself, but kids work on the goal of putting their trust in God. I may have troubles at school and others might as well, but we will not fall because we are “Built on the Rock”.

The same theme also reminds me to always rely on God anywhere I go. I have/are going through some really rough times right now, but I know that I won’t be shaken if I put my complete trust in the God who made me. Sometimes it is easy for me to be selfish and come up with my own plan for my own life, but my goal this year is to let God take complete control of my life and trust Him for whatever he has in store for me. Putting your full trust in God I believe is a very large step in any faith journey, and I believe it takes time. God has worked in my heart and I know that I am well on my way.

Our theme to focus on this year is “Built on the Rock”, and this is a theme that means a lot to me as a student in 8th grade, but also in my spiritual life in this world. I believe that God will surely fix all of our hearts on putting our full trust in Him. We will not be shaken one bit because we are “Built on the Rock”.

Descriptive Writing

The heart card reminds me of how much I loved my visit to the Georgia Aquarium. Everywhere I looked I saw a different unique type of animal. The stench of fish filled the air everywhere I walked. We watched dolphins happily swim in circles, taking brakes to play with each other. We stopped by the tide pool touch pool to touch the prickly sea urchins. The most amazing thing I saw was the gigantic whale sharks, who were as long as 28 feet. The aquarium was an amazing experience, and amazing place, and filled with amazing things.

The money card reminds me of the time I had to babysit 16 hours in one weekend which earned me a lot of money. One weekend, I was called to babysit one night for four hours and 12 hours the next day. My arms felt like floppy jello the first night because I had a fussy baby in my arms the whole night. I heard loud ringing noises in my ears the second day because of loud kids who decided to take over their noisy neighbors. All of the kids were good except when it got to dinner time and they each had a fit about what shape of noodle they wanted to eat. I got a lot of money over two days which made me very excited, and I had to use it as motivation a few times. I had a ton of fun playing with all of the kids, but after the weekend I was exhausted.

The suitcase card reminds me of my trip to Gatlinburg, TN. This summer my family spent a week hiking in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. In Cade’s Cove, we saw a mama bear and her extremely cute, little cubs. Everyday we hiked it was scorching hot which caused buckets of sweat to come off of my face. I felt so scared like a little kid in the dark whenever we would drive on the edge of a cliff up the mountain. We went down to Atlanta for a few days where we went to the Coke Factory, the Georgia Aquarium, and an MLB game. We saw so many great things, and I hope to go back again someday.

Summer 2015

This summer I did a lot of traveling. In June I went to Gatlinburg, TN. We went hiking in the Great Smoking Mountains for a week. Then we traveled down to Atlanta and we went to a MLB game, the Coke Factory, and the Georgia Aquarium. In July we went camping for two weeks out at Holland State Park with our grandparents. In August we went camping up to Mackinac with some of our close friends. I went many more places and I did many more things, but these are my three favorite things.

New Addition

When I first walked into the new addition, I was amazed. Everything looks so nice and modern. I am so grateful for everyone who put time, money, and effort into building this school. I hope we can take care of this school and use it well. I’m so excited I get to use this new addition for my 8th grade year because it makes this year even better!

African Union Day

On African Union Day we had a debate about what should be done on the conflict in Burundi. We partnered with other countries and we created a resolution then shared then with the “union”. We then partnered with other countries we knew wanted the same thing as our country did, and we created a new resolution. We then shared our new ones and then we had a chance to have an informal debate and critique others resolutions. We then voted on which one we think is the best and the debate was over.

I liked learning about how the AU works and how their debates “work”. I liked learning how other countries may think differently and the room gets pretty heated at times, but at sometime or another we would have to come together and compromise our ideas which takes awhile.

I liked that the debate was very organized in how it would all play out and who would be involved in what. I wish that we would have had a little bit more time to debate on our final resolutions. I felt as if we were a little rushed at the end and how we had to quickly make our decisions.

Invictus (Nelson Mandela) Response

The relationship between Pinaar and Mandela grew from the beginning of the movie to the end. At the beginning of the movie, Pinaar’s family didn’t like Mandela and they set an influence on him. Mandela created a relationship with Pinaar. Pinaar having a relationship with Mandela sort of set an example for the rest of his team, that they could interact with the different races. By the end of the movie, Pinaar and Mandela had a strong relationship that created an even larger relationship for the whole country.

This relationship represented South Africa because two races came together and helped to create a relationship just like their’s for their whole country. At the end of the movie it shows Pinaar and Chester holding the trophy together. There was still hate, but South Africa definitely came together because of the relationships within a sports team.

Intro to Africa

Yesterday I was surprised about how many languages there are in a single country. It must be hard to communicate in all different languages if almost everyone is speaking differently than everyone. At Zeeland Christian we mostly learn English, Spanish, and some kids Chinese.
