Please finish and send your child’s timeline the week before your child’s special week. During your child’s special week, it is a wonderful opportunity to have lunch with your child, bring in pets, or share special talents your family members may have been blessed with. Just inform me ahead of time what is your plan.

Second graders will start English class twice a week with Mrs. Bouman after spring break.
Author Aaron Zenz will be visiting our school on Thursday, April 13th. If you like to order any book, please turn in the order on Monday April 10.
Save the date! Ann Hemmeke is working on putting together another dinner at the WeiWei Palace for the Mandarin families. The date will be Saturday, April 22 at 6pm. Please RSVP by Friday, April 14. You need to pay ahead of time and you can make your check out to Ann Hemmeke. You may give the money to your child’s teacher. If I do not have your money by the 14th you will not be counted in the RSVP.
First Grade Field Trip: Friday, June 2 John Ball Zoo All the first graders need to pay $4.00 for the field trip since we did not collect it at the beginning of the school year. Please turn in the money to me by May 1. Thank you to Lynette Heinz, Cara Larsen, Shanda Sprick and Abby Allen for driving the field trip! If any parent would like to join the field trip, please let me know before May 1 to receive a discount. All parents who sign up after May 1 will have to pay $10 at the door.

Curriculum
Language Arts
-Reading Strategy:
We will start reading the second The Box-car Children—-Surprise Island by Gertrude Chandler Warner.
-Writers’ Workshop: We will start a new unit about poem. This week, we will spend time reading some poems both created by poets and previous students. We will learn the characteristics of poem.
Math
-First Grade: We will learn about time and tell and write time in hours.
-Second Grade: We will be exploring 3 digits addition and use it to solve story problems with unknown addends.
Social Studies
This week we are going to learn about our country have a past. We will learn about important holidays that remember historic events.
Science
-First Grade: We will start a new unit called “ An Animal’s Life”. We will do an investigation of animals in the schoolyard. We will also observe animal behavior and identify physical traits that help them to survive.
-Second Grade:We will continue to look at motion of toys and relate it to the forces that caused the motion. We will also explore how we can create objects that move in the air.
Bible
We will talk about David and Absalom. Then we will start the Easter unit.
