The Black Thunder Coal Mine was opened in 1977. The purpose of The Black Thunder Coal Mine is to make coal. The Black Thunder Coal Mine is in the state of Wyoming in the Powder River Basin. They use  trains to transportate the coal. The Black Thunder Coal Mine is the largest single coal mining complex in the world and the first coal mine in the world to ship one billion tons of coal.
