Volcano

Photo on 4-29-16 at 11.12 AMOur volcano is a Composite Volcano. We made this out of paper mache.  We used cardboard for the bottom of it. and the magma chamber, pipe, and the side vent were all made up of a Mountain Due bottle. We painted the paper mache brown and drizzled red paint over it for the lava flow. at the bottom of the bottle we painted it orange to represent the magma chamber and painted a strip of orange going up for the pipe and once coming off of it for the side vent.

God’s Preparation

God has been preparing me to lead worship with my church on stage and also on the worship team at school by getting my heart comfortable on stage and not worrying what people think but just really focusing on his word.  I think this is something I could do in the future and this is also where I see and feel God the most. I love listening to all the people at church sing and get really into it. This is one talent that I see myself fulfilling and one that I want to use for him. Another gift that I have is listening to people and what they have to say. I love listening to people and their stories. I think I am really good with trying to feel for them and not fully understanding what they’re going through but helping them get through it. I love helping people through situations they might have. I also like being that person that everyone comes to talk to if they just need to get something out that’s been bugging them or they’re stuck with a situation and don’t know what to do and they need some guidance or advice.

Spaghetti Marshmallow Tower

the second attempt went very well. It was very sturdy. Making the egg nest was very smart because the egg didn’t fall and it was cushioned. Therefore, it lasted all 10 seconds. What didn’t go well was that the first attempt was not very sturdy. it hardened side ways therefore the egg nest was sideways also. When we put the egg in the nest, it just rolled off. My favorite part was making the tower and getting creative with it. I liked seeing the finished product too. My least favorite part was seeing that the tower hardened sideways. There wasn’t really anything we could do about it because the marshmallows hardened.

Mystery story

One day, Isaac went to go to the grocery store with his mom. While he was there, he saw a Lamborghini in the parking lot. Isaac told his mom he forgot something in the car and he would catch up with her. His mom kept walking towards the store. Isaac waited till he couldn’t see his mom anymore and his mom couldn’t see him. Isaac walked up to the car, Looked inside of it through the window, then reached for the handle. What he didn’t know was that I was in the car. When I heard the handle shake, I immediately panicked. I jumped in the seat that was in the back, not thinking that the person who was opening the door could’ve had a gun. When I saw that it was Isaac, I screamed, “Isaac, what are you doing.” He looked at me with a worried look on his face that told me he knew he was in trouble.

“I… Uh… I just wanted to look at this um car,” he stuttered.

“Is this your parents?” he said trying to get off topic.

“Yes, it is. Why were you opening the door?” I confusingly asked.

“well I wanted to see the interior of it,” He said. I looked at him, trying to figure out if he was a really good liar or if that was the actual truth. “I know you probably don’t believe me, but I actually wanted to know. I love looking at cars. Everything about them get’s me excited.” he said making it more convincing to me. “Well how am I supposed to believe that you are not just making up a lie,” I asked trying to make him think.

“I can prove it to you,” he said. “I have this book that I have that has cut out pictures of different cars with the different types of interiors. I can show you if you want. I have it in my car.” I looked at him.

“No, No, I don’t need to see it,” I said.

“I wanted to take a picture of the interior of the car to put in my book,” He held up his phone. “I promise I wasn’t going to do anything to this beautiful, sweet car,” he looked all around it thinking of how nice it would be to have it.

“Ok,” I said.

“I should probably go now. Um thanks for…” He didn’t know how to finish the sentence. “Um thanks for understanding.” he hurried off before I got a chance to say ur welcome. When the next day came, I got ready to go to school. We picked up Marissa and drove there. When we walked in the door Isaac was standing by Zach and Sadie, talking about something. We walked over there and the conversation went dead. “Hey guys,” Marissa said. “Uh hey Mars and Addi,” Zach said while everyone else just looked at us.

My dad picked me and Marissa up from school when it ended. I saw sadie look at my dad’s car. She was writing something down but I couldn’t tell what.

“Hey Sadie, whatchya doin?” I asked.

“Oh, uh nothing just admiring this cool car!” she said hesitating a little. Later that night I got a call from my dad telling me that his car was stolen out of his work parking lot. I immediately called Isaac and talked to him and told him what happened. I was determined that he was the one who stole it, but he said he was at his cousins all night. “Who do you think did it then?” I asked Isaac.

“well I was talking to Zach and Sadie and they said they’ve always wanted to see those cars in action,” Isaac said.

I said thanks for his information and hung up. I called Sadie and she answered. “Hey Sade, did you hear about my dad’s car?” I asked.

“Yes, I did. Do we know who did it?” she asked. She didn’t seem suspicious at all.

“Well no not yet. This is actually why I am calling you. why were you looking at my dad’s car after school?” I said.

“Oh well, Addi, the only reason I was looking at it is because I had to write the license plate number down for my dad. There was a car stolen in his car lot that was a lamborghini too and it also was the same color. He needed to know the license plate number to see if this was the car. I didn’t tell you because my dad didn’t want your dad to think we were accusing you of anything.” She explained.

“Oh that makes sense,” I said. Thanks for your information. I hung up. I thought very hard on what happened these last two days. Then, I remembered Zach talking to Marissa in between classes. He asked something about when my family was going to leave. He also asked where my dad worked and for how long. When I heard him ask that, I saw Marissa’s confused face. She asked him why he needed to know. Zach’s face turned red then he kinda stuttered. “Well, I was just wondering,” He said. Then he left to his next class. I also remembered, in art, we had to pick our future car and draw it. He picked the exact same one as what my dad’s was. I thought about it. I wondered if it could’ve been him. I called my dad and he answered. “Hey did we find anything on who stole your car?” I asked.

“Well,” he said, “I am at the police station right now and I just looked at the cameras in the parking lot. He seems to have blonde hair and he looks very short. He looks very young too.” I thought for a minute. All of the things matched up with Zach. It’s him, I thought. Two hours later we saw my dad’s car in a garage by an old, abandoned house 2 miles away from my dad’s work. All of the clues matched up. that night, they found Zach and arrested him for stealing my dad’s car.

Why is it important that we study Christian Persecution?

I think it is important for us to know what’s happening because we need to know what people are going through. We also can help them and try to stop what’s happening around the world if we know. It’s good for us to know what people are going through so we can pray for them and help them. We can build a stronger church by doing something about persecution. Whether that’s praying, actually going there to help them, pray with them, and spread the word, or making a donation of money or supplies.

Ideal Church vs. Early Church

The Early Church shared stuff with one another but the Ideal Church was more selfish. They Early church was in community with one another and they loved to go to Church, but the Ideal Church is apart and not living in community.

Our Ideal Church is much different than the Early church. We are much more needy and selfish in the Ideal church but the Early Church shared everything and was all together in one room.

Thematically Essay

Outsiders:

a problem that a character in this book has is that he is scared of getting jumped by the Socs who could kill the greasers if they wanted to. The Socs are the popular and cool people of the town and Greasers, the people that get jumped by the socs, are the lower class and they are poor and they get looked down on from the Socs. Another problem he is worried about is the future and if he is going to get a job or get good grades to get a good job. There is this thing called a rumble. That is where the Socs and Greasers get together and they fight. They fight till someone wins. They know who wins when another side backs out or all of the people are down from that side. In this book there was a rumble. The greasers won but there was a lot of injuries involved. PonyBoy got a serious concussion and he was bat up all over. He got a concussion from a soc pounding him in the head with his foot. People like the socs were not afraid to hurt the greasers because they knew if they did end up killing them the police would blame it on the greasers. That’s why when Johnny and Ponboy killed the Soc they didn’t turn them selves into the police because they knew they were going to regret it because the police wouldn’t believe them when they said it was self deffense.

One day a Soc jumped a greaser and the greaser got very hurt. This caused a lot of violence between these two groups. When a greaser gets jumped all the rest of the greasers have to make sure the greaser that got jumped is okay. They are like family. Another thing that happened that was violent was that one greaser killed a Soc. It was self defense because the Soc was fighting him.

A thing that I learned from this book is that you have to get to know a person before you can judge them just like the socs did to the greasers. In this story, two girls that were socs met two boys that were greasers. This caused the two girls boyfriends to jump the two boys that met these two girls. Another thing you can learn is by putting others in front of yourself. The greasers did this to other greasers when they needed help with something or they just got jumped. They took care of each other and did whatever they could to help them with whatever it was. Johnny and Ponyboy ran away because they killed a Soc. They first when To Dally for help and Dally gave them what they needed. This is an example of putting other people in front of yourself.

Phosphorous Cycle

Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 11.36.28 AMWe explained our cycle by first drawing it on a marker board. We video taped ourselves erasing it. We reversed the erasing to make it look like we were drawing it with the eraser. When that was done we explained the cycle with Justin telling a story about a  Phosphate named Phosphor living in the cycle. We told his story about what he did and when he did it. After that, we gave some definitions of the words we used in the cycle incase they didn’t know what those words meant. We ended it with fun facts about a phosphate.

Theme Writing

Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

I think this verse is a really good one for this year because its about a firm foundation that is built and this year we have the new addition. I am excited to see what this verse does to our grade and school this year. “Built On the Rock,” means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a christian in the world.

Since I am on the worship team, I should be a good example and leader to everyone else who is watching. I should also be a good example in the halls and say and act like I am a follower of God and I am doing everything for him and not myself. By doing this, people will watch our example and do the same. What I take from this verse is that if you are wise and put God’s words into action, you will have a “Firm Foundation.”

Being an example of God is really hard in the world. When I hear stories of people talking to non believers about christ I think it would be easy but when ur really in that situation, you need to find the right words to say to them. How I can be a good example in the world is when I see someone hurting or suffering. When someone’s having a rough day you can pray for them. A girl preached at our church the other day and she told us a story. She was on a plane and someone was having a panic attach. She immediately asked to pray for that girl to help her calm down. She started praying and in a little bit the panic attack passed. She had faith in God that he would calm this girl from her panic attach.

“Built On the Rock,” means a lot to me as both an 8th grader at ZCS and as a christian in the world. Having Faith in God is really important to have when you are a leader in your school and in the world. It will help me with a lot of things in life especially when it comes to responsibility. I need to give God all of my problems and questions and when I do so and listen to his answer, I will have a “Firm Foundation.”

Descriptive Writing

The ladder reminds me of the time I had to paint the white on my whole house. Thankfully, I got paid. I felt ready to get started with this project, but by the end I was ready to be done. I heard the loud T.V. booming From inside the house and I wished that I was on my couch watching it. As I held the brush, I could feel my hands slowly giving up. It felt like I was carrying a suitcase full of rocks. Sometimes, I would just stand there very stubborn thinking I could never get it done. By the end I walked into my house proud of all the work. I could feel my whole body sinking into the couch and my muscles relaxing as I watched T.V.

The Anchor Reminds me of my boat. I got my swimsuit on excited to master wake surfing. As I went outside, expecting to see my family ready, my mom told me that it broke. Sadness filled my face. I was like a dog without a toy. I sat down and looked around. I saw pie and new that that would cheer me up. I went over there and could already smelt the fresh cherries. I could already taste it.

The dollar sign reminds me of the time we went dune riding at Sliver Lake because it costed money. We rented a jeep and one razor. Even though I wasn’t old enough my dad let me drive the razor. I could feel the rushing nerves flowing through my fingers. I did not want to screw up. I could feel the ground shook as the loud engines roared from the background. I love to people watch. Some people were very risky and didn’t take no for an answer. We rode till our time was up. Then, when it was time to go, we decided we would have to do it again.

New Addition

The new addition looks really cool! I like all the new furniture. I am really glad that we got it. I think I am going to get really distracted with the clear glass walls, but I like the feeling of it being open. I also like the air conditioning.

African Union Day

African Union day was a day where we talked about and debated what to do in the situation in Burundi. Burundi had a Civil War for a while between the Hutus and the Tutsis. It ended up killing more than 300,000 people. We debated on what we should do to solve the problem, or if we shouldn’t do anything. We wrote those ideas on a resolution. We had people read them and try to get there countries signature on our paper.

Before we got into this day I felt really unprepared, but when it started I got into it and it was actually really fun. My favorite thing was debating between what we should do between the two resolutions.

I am glad we did this with a person from our country instead of by our selves. Something I would like to change about this is debating longer. We ended with unanswered questions so a lot of people were confused or mad.

Invictus Response

I think the security guards got closer from before because of the game Rugby. In the beginning they wouldn’t listen to each others Ideas or get along with each other because of the color of their skin. As the movie went on, they got closer. For example, they were playing Rugby in the lawn together, and they weren’t forced too. Also, at the end of the final, big game they shook hands and became a community. Everyone was jumping up and down and they didn’t care who they were by or talking too. One white guy hugged a black security guard.

The security guards were a good example for the community, because they worked together to protect the President. This brought the community together.
