March 28-31

Reminders:

  • Please send in clean towels in a reusable bag on Monday
  • Please send in library books on Wednesday!
  • Enjoy your break!

What we are learning:

In Phonics this week we practiced the U word family. We also are realizing these are rhyming words! Practicing rhyming is always good even if it is just silly words!

In Bible this week we started our Easter timeline, we read through the stories of the triumphal entry, washing the disciples’ feet (we talked about Jesus’ example of servanthood and I challenged them to be servant’s at home), the Passover and the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. We will continue this amazing journey after spring break!

In math this week we did a lot of addition. We used cubes, number lines, our fingers as well as our minds to work through problems.

In writing we practiced making sentences about what we wanted to do on spring break. We continue to work on capital letters to begin a sentence and punctuation to end it, as well as spacing and writing from left to right.

We added our last wh-  word to our word wall board: what.

Finally, we enjoyed lots of mystery readers

  • Thank you for all you do at home! It is a busy season and I know it can be hard to keep up on everything.

What we are learning:

This week we added the word when to our word wall word list!

In phonics we worked on the “o” word families. We worked on creating and reading new words by changing the first letter!

In math this week we used some tasty manipulatives (M&M”s) to find partners for numbers. We then practiced this in our workbooks!

In Bible this week we continued our study of the parables! We had a skit about the Pharisee and the tax collector and learned about what it means to be humble. We also played a game called sheep and wolf and learned about Jesus being our Good Shepherd and how He takes good care of us and opens the gate for us and welcomes us into His family! The students will be bringing their parable booklets home today! Next week we begin our study of the greatest story, The death and resurrection of Jesus, our Risen Savior!!

We also were able to worship together in chapel on Wednesday! It was so wonderful to see so many of your faces there and be all together again!

In writing workshop this week we concluded our How to writings. This week the students had to write directions totally on their own with no help from Mrs. Arnold! They did amazing and I absolutely love reading these!

We celebrated the diversity within our school and world this week as we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day and Cerebral Palsy Day.

Finally, we had lots of mystery readers including an entire class who decided they wanted to be the mystery reader on Friday afternoon!

What we are learning:

Our new word wall word this week was where. We are continuing to work though some wh words! Our other word wall words are: a, at,, am, and, come, go, here, I, is, it, in, like, look, me, my, on, see, the, this, to, up, we, who and where.

In Bible this week we continued our study of the parables. We learned about the visitor at midnight and did a very fun skit, with Mrs. Arnold knocking at the door while everyone was “sleeping” and Mrs. Hunderman only letting me in after multiple attempts. We talked about our verse and how it tells us to knock and the door will be opened to us. We decided that this means that Jesus always opens doors for us but only in His timing and not our own! We then continued our week with the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the Prodigal son.

In Daily 5 this week we all got a chance to read the books we had in our bags to Mrs. Arnold! It was wonderful to see their progression and listen to them read again! This week there will not be any new books in their book bag.

In writing we continued our how to directions. This week, with all the nice weather, we attempted all on our own to give the steps for how to go down a slide!

In math this week, we worked on 5 groups and classifying things.

In phonics we worked on substituting the first sound and making new words. We turned cat into hat and cop into hop etc.

Finally, an amazing part of this week was our mystery readers! We loved being surprised by a knock everyday! What a joy it was to see the excitement on their faces!
