What we are learning:

This week in Bible we are continuing our timelines of the Easter story. We made it to the crucifixion and next week we will read the most exciting story in our Bible!! HE IS RISEN! Also, we continue to work on our Bible verse, Matthew 28:5,6. “The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified, He is not here, He is RISEN. Come and see the place where he lay.” The students are doing so well with this verse. I know they would love to say it for you at home;)

In phonics we learned about onset and rime. (The beginning and ending of words, for example moon is m and oon and cat is c and at. We sound them out together.) We worked on saying the beginning and ending parts of these words and then writing them. We continue to work on saying words SLOWLY to hear the sounds in them.

In math this week we continue to work on partners of numbers using our crayons and dividing them up. We also practiced teen numbers with our unifix cubes.

In writing we went outside and practice flying “pretend kites” and then came inside and wrote about how to fly a kite. We also wrote about how to ride a bike. During our Daily 5 portion of writing we came up with our own ideas for our very own how to instructions! They have done an AMAZING job with this!

In Daily 5 everyone had a chance to work in their groups and we are continuing to use different strategies to figure out unknown words. During our word work portion we used letters to make CVC words and then wrote them down! Continue to read with your child at home! They are  very proud of their progress. Encourage them to point as they read. This is a very important part of becoming beginning readers.

We also finished up the uppercase letters in our handwriting books. We continue to work on making sure we are starting our letters at the top!

This week Georgia was up in lights. Georgia is a great friend to everyone in class and always has a smirk on her face with a wonderful sense of humor! It is hard to believe but we have made it through everyone in our class! I feel so blessed as we were not able to do this last school year due to Covid! Praising God for everyday at school this year!

What we are learning:

This week we have been working so hard as we are pushing towards Spring Break as well as adjusting to the new time! We have had another incredible and busy week in KA!!

In Bible we are continuing to work on our Easter timeline as we are studying all the events that led to Jesus’ death and resurrection. This has been an amazing time in our classroom as we discuss and sing praises daily for what Jesus did for us! Ask your child to sing the song Hosanna Rock, we love it!

In phonics we continued our study of word families, adding the ap and ad families. We also cut up a letter and put it together and then read it finding words we knew to make it easier! We did an amazing job with that!

.

In writing workshop we continued our How to writing. The highlight was how to make a frosting sandwich, where we first made it and ate it and then wrote our How to description.  Next week we will be writing almost completely on our own!

Our new word wall word this week is when. This is added to all the ones we have already been learning! They are a, at, and, am, come, go, here, I, it, is, in, look, like, me, my, on, see, the, this, to, up, we where and who.

In Math we worked on simple addition as well as reviewing positional words such as over, under, next to and beside. On St. Patrick’s day we did some fun graphing with Lucky Charms marshmallows!

During Daily 5 we are continuing to work in groups with me as well as working on writing, word work, listening to reading and reading to self. We are working on strategies to decode words. Keep reading their books with them at home as the more familiar they are with the word wall words the easier it is for them to decode the words around them! It is so fun to see their love for reading continuing to grow!

We are also beginning to enjoy the spring weather and can’t get enough of it!!! The fresh air has been so good for us!

We read about the Passover supper and why it is important even today and we also learned about Jesus praying at the Garden of Gethsemane. We discussed what an amazing choice Jesus made to give His life for us all. We are also continuing to work on our verse Matthew 28:5,6 “The angel said to the women do not be afraid, for I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, He is RISEN, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

During Daily 5 we are continuing to work in groups with Mrs. Arnold and using strategies to decode unknown words. I also added a small baggie in their book bag with some CVC cards that they use to slowly sound out a word by pointing to the dots and saying the letter sound and then blending them together.

In writing workshop we are continuing our how to writing. This week they have come up with more of the words than ever before! We also work on this during our Daily 5 time as well.

Our new word wall word this week is where. This is added to all the ones we have already been learning! They are a, at, and, am, come, go, here, I, it, is, in, look, like, me, my, on, see, the, this, to, up, we and who.

What we are learning:

In Bible we began our Timeline to Easter. We started with the story of Palm Sunday and also learned how Jesus was a servant leader. He showed us how to serve others when he washed his disciples feet.

In Daily 5 we continue to see growing readers and writers! I love the choice that Daily 5 framework allows. The kids are so proud of their work! They love to share favorite stories or pictures with friends, myself or Mrs. Hunderman.

In Phonics we met the an family and made a house for its family members (pan, man, can, ran, tan, fan).

In Writing workshop the students worked together as a group for coming up with instructions on how to make a snowman and then how to have a picnic. Mrs. Hunderman and myself put a picnic together for them to watch and then shared a small treat with them. There was a lot of blue and green;) in this picnic!

In math this week we used manipulatives to make our own addition and subtraction sentences. At home encourage your children to make some math sentences from household items such as silverware, toys, tools, etc. They love this!

We added who to the world wall. The kids had fun writing sentences with who in it. Another challenge was writing question marks.

For March is Reading Month Fun we read about George Washington and my daughter did a special guest reader zoom with us and we learned about Rosa Parks!

This week Lucas Cooper was up in lights. It was fun to learn about him and read his favorite book all about Charlie the ranch dog. We are blessed to have Lucas in our class!
