A week in review: May 13-17

As your child’s teacher this year I have to say that although I love summer and am excited for days by the pool, bike rides, and trips to the ice cream shop, I will so miss each and everyone of your children. They have been such a joy to teach this year and I am beginning to dread June 6! Thank you for all your support and continue to pray for our class that we will finish strong!

I would like to thank all of the PBL helpers this week! Next week will be another big one as we get our information ready to share with our friends and loved ones! I so appreciate all your help, as this project would not be possible without you!

Important Dates:

  • May 20: N is for night clothes. Please feel free to send your child to school in pajamas or comfy clothes!
  • May 21: O is wear orange day.
  • May 27: Memorial Day Parade
  • May 29: PBL celebration

Additional Information:

On May 27 We do not have school but we do have the amazing opportunity to walk in Zeeland’s Memorial Day Parade. If your child is planning on walking with our class please lmk by Thursday, May 23. I will be sending more information out regarding this towards the end of the upcoming week.

WEDNESDAY, May 29 from 2:30-3:20 in the LIBRARY. We are combining with Mrs. Bronsink’s class for our PBL celebration. Families are welcome to join us in the library to see what your children have learned. Although it is the PBL celebration, this project truly shows the growth that your children have made this whole school year. Their attention, reading, writing and creativity have grown so much! It is fun to watch them use everything they have learned and create something with it. Please note that you will have to check in at the office and there will be many other parents checking in so allow for a little extra time. Thanks!

Curriculum:

Bible: This week we finished up with our study of the Fruits of the Spirit and we also read and discussed the story of Peter being freed from jail by an angel. We discussed the meaning of faith and believing in things we can’t always see.

Word Wall Words: blue and purple.

Daily 5: We continued to work in our groups. This week we worked really hard on sliding through the sounds of words or breaking them up and looking for sounds and words we know! I am so encouraged by their ability to begin doing this more and more.

Phonics: This week we talked about the two sounds the vowel “o” makes and also the sounds of the blends “th” and “ch.”

Writing Workshop: This week we continued our “how to” writing as well as writing letters for our “L” day. As you are spending time with your child this weekend encourage him/her to think about the steps it takes to do things in their lives. Something as simple as brushing their teeth or feeding your pet are just a few examples. Next week they will be coming up with their own ideas and it is so helpful for them to be thinking ahead!

Math: We are continuing to work on simple addition and subtraction. This week we worked on adding things we might buy at the grocery store.

Engaging God’s World: For the next few weeks we will be researching and putting together our animal projects. This is such a fun way to see all of the students put so many of their skills together! Thank you again for all your help!

Afternoons: This week in addition to our play and quiet times we worked on our PBL assignments, did some phonics games and went to Market Day! It was a busy week in our Kindergarten class and I am looking forward to the week ahead!!!
