Please start practicing taking on and off winter gear with your kids as this is something that can take up too much of our time and the more we practice the better we get. I was reminded of how close winter is getting by the chilly temps and some of the cute winter hats!

From the Advancement Office:
Hi Parents, the ZCS Legacy Event is happening next Friday, Nov. 5. This is an excellent event for parents to attend to experience and celebrate the culture and legacy of ZCS. This event is a fundraiser, but you’re not expected to give a gift just because you attend. You can learn more and see the amazing raffle prizes (including a year of tuition!) at zcs.org/legacyevent. Hurry – the deadline to register is 9 PM on Monday!

What we are learning:

This week in Bible we started our unit on Joseph. Mrs. Arnold had a fun rainbow “robe” that we used for our first story. I also introduced our new verse, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who Love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” The story of Joseph plays out so clearly in this verse.

We have officially gotten our Daily 5 up and running smoothly. We have 4 options right now, Read to self, Work on writing, Word work and work with Mrs. Arnold. This enables each student to choose what they would like to work on for Daily 5 and we also have a check list to make sure they get to every choice at least once during the week.

We are continuing to work on word wall words. This week we added the word go and read the book, “Go Dogs Go,”  and we watched a fun movie to go with it as well. So far we have learned I, A, the, and go.

In phonics this week we continued to work on syllables. We made a fun class book that went I like ____, yum, yum, yum. I like _____ in my tum. We then chose our favorite foods to fill in the blanks and count the syllable in our choices! This was so fun to watch their brains deciding what is their favorite food.

In math this week we did some review and finished up our first unit with a test. We did a good job of taking our first official test. We learned that we need to be quiet and do our own work so that Mrs. Arnold knows how to help each and everyone of us. We also discussed that it is OK not to know everything!

In writing workshop we had fun labeling Mrs.Arnold and then we labeled things around our classroom with post it notes!

We had some extra science fun on Wednesday during our special free afternoon, We talked about mixing colors and what happens when we do that and then we used warm water on a plate of M&M’s to see what happened to our colors.

.

On Friday we read The Pumpkin Patch Parable, by Liz Curtis Higgs and then we colored a pumpkin which showed the light of Jesus coming through, just like he does in our lives!

This week Westin Sligh was Up in Lights. It was so fun to have Westin’s mom come and visit and help us to get to know more about Westin. We learned that Westin is not only a good chicken chaser but a good catcher of chickens too! Westin is so fun to have in our classroom and we are blessed by the joy and laughter he brings!

We also had team day on Friday which was loud and way too much fun!

.

I love this crazy bunch!
