What We Have Been Learning:

Writing Workshop: We continued to work on labeling this week. We labeled a few pictures and sketched a story of what we did at recess and labeled it.

Daily 5: We learned about word work this week. We have our word wall words on cards and a basket of letters to use to build the words. This is a fun choice for daily 5.

Engaging God’s World: This new science until began with our field trip Monday learning about seasonal changes at DeGraaf nature center. On Tuesday we learned about being a scientist through learning about Jane Goodall. We listened to a book that explained that Jane read a lot to learn new things and then she observed and took notes of her observations. We were scientists in our classroom as we looked for patterns. We observed the weather and made a journal entry in our weather booklets so we can note if we have patterns in the weather.

Marshall was our friend Up in Lights this week! It was fun to listen to the silly turkey themed books when his dad came to the classroom. We also saw Marshall’s coin collection. He generously gave each student a few coins to take home! (this was parent approved :))

What We Have Been Learning:

Bible: One day this week we just sat with our Bibles and read. It was such a nice time. We had read in our morning devotions that we become closer to God by reading the Bible. We read about his promises to Abraham, his son Isaac, Isaac’s sons Jacob and Esau and then Jacob’s 10 sons. We saw mistakes and forgiveness. We saw a God who keeps his promises.

Thursday afternoon we enjoyed watching a Veggie Tales take on Joseph, Little Joe.

Writing Workshop: We continued to work on labeling this week. We labeled a few pictures and are starting to learn how to draw a story and then label our stories.

Phonemic Awareness: We continuing to listen for beginning and ending sounds and have started segmenting words (breaking them apart).

Math: We were able to compare numbers by representing them in towers, cubes or drawn items. We continue to work on our vocabulary and use more and fewer to compare numbers.

Phonics: We focused on beginning sounds. Each student was given a picture card. We practiced saying the word slowly and then sorting the pictures by beginning sound.

Kade was our friend Up in Lights this week! It was fun listening to his favorite book, Hop on Pop and learning that he enjoys swimming in his pool and going to Shedd Aquarium.

What We Have Been Learning:

Bible: We read about God fulfilling his promise to Abraham with the birth of Isaac.

Daily 5: This week we took turns 1. working with Mrs. Bronsink 2. read to self 3. work on writing. We continue to work on independence as we read or write the whole time. I love this time with your children! 🙂

Writing Workshop: We learned about labeling this week. We labeled ourselves with our names, then the class labeled me. We learned that if we don’t know how to spell the whole word, we can start with the beginning sound. We figured out h-hair, l-leg, h-hand, e-elbow and f-foot.

Phonemic Awareness: We continuing to listen for beginning and ending sounds and have started segmenting words (breaking them apart).

Math: We focused on understanding that numbers represent a specific amount. We had fun choosing a number from a number deck and building towers, putting pizza toppings on a pretend pizza and making posters to represent the given number.

Up In Lights:

We were so happy to celebrate Bennett UP IN LIGHTS! We enjoyed singing along to “My God is a Great Big God” and listening to his favorite book. We loved his favorite stuffed animal and enjoyed seeing his favorite toy.
