Spring Field Trip to Hemlock Crossing

When: Tuesday, April 30 Students and teachers will take a bus from Zeeland Christian to Hemlock Crossing. Students will arrive at school as normal. We will leave school at 9:30. Parents may meet us at Hemlock Crossing. We will finish around 11 and travel back to ZCS.

Where: Hemlock Crossing 8115 W Olive Rd, West Olive, MI 49460

Who: The classes of Mrs. Bronsink and Maestra Zondervan

Why: We are exploring nature in the spring, noticing any changes that God is making in our world. We are able to compare and contrast what we noticed during our fall visit.

We are beginning our ABC countdown to summer on April 30! This is meant to be a fun way for us to enjoy the last 26 days of school together. Many days you don’t have to worry about bringing anything. There are a few days that I have added * Those days your child may be asked to bring something or something special. We hope to have fun and continue learning!

April 30 does not have * but I am adding bring a stuffed Animal for A!

What We Have Been Learning:

Phonics: We continue to review digraphs and vowels. This week we focused on long and short I and words with wh and th.

Writing: We finished our last letter to pen pals. We are looking forward to celebrating our hard with with Mrs. Arnold’s class next week.

Bible: We are learning Matthew 7:7-8. Here is a song to help. We continue to read parables and learn lessons through the stories Jesus told.

Math: We continue to learn about teen numbers. We learned that when objects are lined up neatly or in 5 frames and 10 frames, it makes estimating the amount of objects easier. We learned about estimation!

We had fun reading with flashlights!

Exploring the pond with Mrs. Bosch.

What We Have Been Learning:

We are focused on vowels right now in Phonics. We are learning about long and short vowel sounds. We have reviewed a and e so far.

Phonemic Awareness: I have seen so much growth in the students hearing blends and digraphs. They are making connections in reading and writing as well!

Bible: We are taking a look back at parables…reading how Jesus taught through stories.

Writing: We have pen pals! Friends from our classroom and Mrs. Arnold’s classroom have written us letters. We were able to write a letter back. Writing these sentences takes a lot of work. I am so proud of the kids!

Math: We are in a new math unit and we are beginning to look at teen numbers. We are noticing that teens are ten plus a few more. We are learning how to count on from ten.

Vanessa was our friend up in lights. We love Vanessa’s sweet smiles and learned about many of the things she loves. We enjoyed seeing her favorite unicorn toy and singing her favorite song-just like her dad does on their church’s praise team!

We had beautiful weather Tuesday for Nature Rich Learning. Mrs. Bosch read a book about Easter with the illustrations made from rocks. Our students were able to recreate the story with rocks and other natural elements.

We enjoyed partner work in Math this week. We were working on partners that make ten and reviewing story problems.

We voted for extra recess when we had some really nice weather!
