20-21 First Letter to Families

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

As the new school year approaches, I pray that you are having an enjoyable and relaxing last few days of summer! It has been a wonderful summer for our family. We have enjoyed as much sunshine and family time as possible.  My husband, Aaron, and I have two daughters at ZCS. Elle is going into 6th grade and Eden is going into 2nd. This spring we added a puppy to our family! Our dog, Mando, is an Aussiedoodle (Australian Shepherd & Poodle mix). I have never owned a dog before, so I am learning a lot and loving it!

As you know, kindergarten is an important transition year for you and your child. It is an honor to walk with you through this school year. It is my goal to make you and your child feel as comfortable as possible as we begin this journey together. This year brings us some new challenges, but I am confident that we will be able to overcome them with God’s help in love and in grace.

Here are a few things to look forward to:

  • Parent Information Video: sent via email before August 17

Please watch for an email coming to your inbox before August 17 with a presentation containing information that will be helpful to know before we start the school year together.

  • Monday, August 24: School-Wide Open House

Please watch the Blue Note for details. If you are not receiving the Blue Note please contact Nakisha DeJong ndejong@zcs.org.

  • Tuesday, August 25: First Day of School

  • Friday, September 4 – Monday, September 7: Labor Day Vacation

  • ZCS Open House: Monday, August 24 Last Name A-I 2-3pm J-R 3-4pm S-Z 4-5
  • ZPS Busing *You should have received a letter from ZPS with your bussing schedule. On Monday, August 24 you will be able to have a practice ride with your child. Please note the change that when you arrive at school, parents and children will go to the playground and NOT classrooms. Kindergarten teachers will be outside to say hello! We will be wearing masks as students will wear them for recess.

Thank you, in advance, for supporting our class by bringing school supplies. The generic kindergarten list is available on our website. Please note I have added a few extras that fit our specific classroom needs. This list is below.

All items may be dropped off during the school Open House.

I know that you will be sending me your most precious gift. Thank you for entrusting your child to me this year. I am confident that this year will be a wonderful and exciting year if we depend on each other and the Lord for guidance. Please feel free to email me with ANY questions or concerns. My email address is mbronsink@zcs.org

I’m looking forward to seeing you very soon!

• LARGE backpack
• scissors
• 2 – boxes of 24 regular Crayola crayons
• 1 – highlighter
• 1 – 10-pack of thick, classic color Crayola washable
markers
• plastic pencil box approximately 5×8 (please keep basic)
• Clean, 2nd pair of tennis shoes to be kept at school for P.E
These items do not need to be labeled
• 1 box of tissues
• 2 containers of disinfectant wipes
• 4 – EXPO dry erase markers (not Ultra Fine)
• 12 – yellow #2 pencils – sharpened
• 3 – Elmer’s LARGE glue sticks
Additional items
• Family picture (4X6 print in color)
• Extra top, bottom, underwear & socks in plastic bag – to be kept in backpack in case of
accident
• A clean beach towel
Every day after lunch recess we will have a quiet time where children can rest do a quiet
activity. The beach towel will give them something from home to sit or lay on, and will also
help them understand personal space. Please no blankets or quilts. ☺
• A reusable cloth bag to store the beach towel
Each child will need a place to store their beach towel when they are not using it. I think the
easiest way to store them is in a reusable bag (the ones you can take to Meijer and put your
groceries in!) Grab one from home or pick one up for 99 cents.

• Even if your child is leaving at lunchtime please send a towel and bag
anyway.
• Please do not think the towel or the bag have to be brand new. ☺
• Write your child’s name on the outside of the bag and on the tag of
the towel.
• I will send home the towels every Friday to be washed.

Please place labeled scissors, crayons, 1 glue stick, 2 dry erase markers, highlighter and 2 pencils inside your child’s pencil box. All other items will be stored in the classroom safely until needed.

Donations:
If you would like to donate a few extra items to our classroom, we are in need of:
Zip top gallon bags, snack size bags, paper lunch bags, class set of small play-do (students
will be given one to use for play and learning) and highlighters.
Please do not feel obligated to buy these things. I appreciate the donations, but I also
understand that back to school items add up quickly. Thank you for giving your support and
encouragement in other ways as well! ☺
