Reminders:

March 29-April 5 Spring Break

What We Have Been Learning:

Bible: We finished our Easter timeline this week. It is amazing to think of every single event from Palm Sunday until Easter. We tried to recognize the many emotions that were felt during the time, the worry, the sadness and then the joy of the resurrection. What an honor to celebrate the amazing gift!

Math: We are recognizing how we can show addition with different tools-like connecting cubes and two color counters and write the math expression with numbers.

Writing: We continue to work on stretching out words as we try to write them. This week we drew and wrote our hopes for spring break.

Phonemic Awareness: We are continuing to work on listening to blends. This can be tricky!

On Monday we had a Burn Bright celebration which was a puppet show!

We love our secret readers!

We celebrated Tinsley UP IN LIGHTS! We love Tinsley’s smiles and excitement for her friends and school. She loves to share her ideas with her friends.

Amazing job dressing up as book characters!!!

We enjoyed a special secret reader, Tinsley’s grandma, Mrs. Walters!

March 29-April 5 Spring Break

What We Have Been Learning:

Bible: This week we read about Jesus praying in the garden. This story is a wonderful example of what we should do when we are struggling. God is always here for us! It doesn’t mean our problems are taken away, but we go to him and He gives us what we need.

Phonemic Awareness: This week we are challenged with l blends. For example, we have the kids say sled. Then ask to take the /s/ away and what is left? led  the /l/ is often missed, so we are working hard on recognizing this sound.

Math: We are working on solving story problems. This week we had a story problem that didn’t give us enough information. We realized there were several different answers! Wow! That was a big concept! We knew in the story the person picked 9 pieces of fruit. Some were apples some were oranges. We found many combinations that could make 9.

Daily 5: We introduced a new word work activity building CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words with cards and letters. Lots of sounding out for this activity!

Writing Workshop: We needed to draw pictures and write how to make a sandwich. This was a big challenge creating sentences on our own. We reviewed sounding out words when we are stuck. I saw so much growth!

We continue to love our Secret Readers!

We had a chilly walk during Nature Rich Learning. We stopped at a few churches and areas to read a book that led us through the emotions shown in the Easter story.

What a blessing to celebrate Hudson on World Down Syndrome day! He is extra special to us!

Phonics: We are meeting new word families. The class is doing a great job understanding that word families have the same middle and ending. This week we were surprised how many words we made with et.

Word Wall Words: This week we added on. Please continue to review reading and writing: a, at, and, am, come, go, here, I, is, look, like, me, my, see, the, this, to, up, we.

Writing Workshop: We are beginning our new writing unit: How to instructions. To get us warmed up, students worked with a partner to put 3 piece puzzles together. We practiced using the words first, next and last when describing our puzzle. This will help us get ready to write out 3 step instructions.

This week we celebrated Oliver Up In Lights. We loved listening to Oliver’s favorite Elephant and Piggie book and hearing where Oliver and his family have traveled.
